Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Best areas to open a shop in Uyo: footfall by location

Where foot traffic gathers in Uyo, which trades suit Ibom Plaza, Aka Road, Oron Road, Abak Road and Nwaniba, and how to test a site before paying rent.

The short answer

In Uyo, foot traffic concentrates around Ibom Plaza and the city centre, along the main radial roads (Aka Road, Oron Road and Abak Road) and around the major markets, while Nwaniba Road draws car-borne shoppers. No official footfall data or shop-rent index exists for Uyo, so test a site yourself by counting passers-by at different hours before you sign a lease. Rents vary by street; treat any figure you hear as a starting point for negotiation.

The single biggest decision for a new shop is the site. A good location can carry an average shop; a poor one can sink a good one. Uyo is a compact state capital whose traffic runs along a few main roads that meet near the city centre, which makes it easier to read than a megacity. This guide explains where foot traffic tends to gather, which kinds of business suit each area, and how to check a site for yourself. Akwa Ibom has no published footfall counts or shop-rent survey, so any rents here are labelled examples.

How footfall works in Uyo

Three things drive foot traffic in Uyo: the city centre around Ibom Plaza, the radial roads that carry commuters in and out, and the markets. Civil servants, students and traders move between these points every weekday. Shops close to bus stops, junctions and markets catch the people walking; shops on wider, faster roads catch drivers who can park.

Street trading has been restricted. A 2022 THEWILL report notes that Akwa Ibom banned street trading in February 2021 and set up a task force, and describes traders spilling onto roads near markets. For a shop owner that is double-edged: hawkers outside can undercut you, but enforcement can also clear the frontage. Ask neighbours how often the task force passes.

Area by area

AreaWho passesTrades that tend to fitWatch out for
Ibom Plaza and city centreShoppers, office workers, visitorsPhones and accessories, fashion, pharmacies, quick food, printingHighest rents; parking is hard
Aka RoadCommuters and residents of dense estatesProvisions and mini-marts, pharmacies, salons, eateriesTraffic jams at peak hours slow drop-in trade
Oron RoadCommuters and through trafficBuilding materials, auto parts, eateries, provisionsFast-moving traffic; check that customers can stop
Abak RoadResidents, students, commutersProvisions, cosmetics, salons, phone repairRents rise near major junctions
Nwaniba RoadCar-borne shoppers, higher-income estatesSupermarkets, restaurants, lounges, boutiques, spasFewer pedestrians; you need parking and signage
Near Akpan Andem marketMarket shoppers and tradersWholesale provisions, packaging, POS, foodCongestion and drainage after rain

This table reflects how the areas are commonly described by residents and business owners, not measured counts. Use it to shortlist, then test. Also look beyond the road itself: a shop near a school, a hospital gate, a motor park or a large church can see heavy but predictable peaks, which suit businesses that can staff up for those hours and close early on quieter days.

How to test a site before you pay

  1. Count passers-by. Stand near the shop for 15 minutes at 8am, 1pm and 5pm on a weekday and on Saturday. Count people who could plausibly buy from you.
  2. Watch neighbouring shops. Note how many customers walk into similar businesses in an hour.
  3. Check the road at night. Lighting and security decide whether evening trade is possible.
  4. Ask about levies. Ask the landlord and neighbours what the local government, signage and waste levies are, and ask the council revenue office for the official figures in writing.
  5. Check power and water. Ask what the current electricity supply is like on the feeder and whether the meter is prepaid.

Rent: a worked example

We found no published survey of Uyo shop rents. As a reference point, Nigeria Property Centre's listings for one-bedroom flats in Uyo showed a median of ₦1,000,000 a year in September 2026 (range ₦800,000 to ₦1,700,000, six listings). Shop rents are set street by street and are not the same as flat rents. The example below shows how to judge whether a rent can work.

Example shop rent
₦1,200,000 a year, paid upfront (labelled example)
Monthly equivalent
₦100,000
Example average gross margin
25% of sales
Sales needed to cover rent alone
₦400,000 a month (₦100,000 ÷ 0.25)
Per trading day (26 days)
About ₦15,400 in sales

If your footfall count suggests you cannot reach that daily sales level, the rent is too high for your margin, however attractive the street looks. Add staff, power and stock costs before you decide. Our guide to starting a mini-mart shows a fuller cost build.

Paperwork to plan for

  • Business name registration with the CAC; a 2025 guide reported a ₦10,000 standard fee for a business name, so check the current fee on the CAC portal.
  • A written tenancy agreement naming the rent, the period, service charge and who pays for repairs.
  • Local government trade permit and signage approval, where the council requires them.
  • Sector permits where relevant, such as pharmacy registration, or an NMDPRA licence if you will sell cooking gas.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business Account gives you bank-transfer checkout free of charge, and a Finance agent that prepares a daily sales summary for you to review. If you sell to customers abroad, multicurrency accounts let you receive dollars, pounds or euros. For buying stock, see our guide to where to buy what in Uyo's markets.

Questions people ask

Which area in Uyo has the most customers?

The city centre around Ibom Plaza and the main radial roads carry the most foot traffic. No official footfall data exists, so count passers-by yourself.

How much is a shop rent in Uyo?

No survey of shop rents is published. Rents depend on the street and frontage. For reference, one-bedroom flats in Uyo listed at a median of ₦1,000,000 a year in September 2026.

Is Nwaniba Road good for a supermarket?

It is commonly chosen for supermarkets and restaurants serving car-borne shoppers. Make sure the site has parking and clear signage.

Do I need CAC registration to open a shop in Uyo?

You should register a business name with the CAC before opening a bank account in the business name. Check the current fee on the CAC portal.
