Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Canada

Becoming a licensed immigration consultant in Canada

What the CICC licence requires, who may legally charge for immigration advice, and why unlicensed agents put Nigerian clients at risk.

The short answer

Only authorized representatives may charge for Canadian immigration advice: members in good standing of the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC), lawyers and paralegals of a provincial law society, and Quebec notaries. To become a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant you must pass the CICC entry-to-practice exam (maximum 4 attempts) before applying for a licence. IRCC will not deal with unauthorized representatives.

Why the licence matters so much

Demand for help with study permits, Express Entry and visitor visas from Nigeria is large, and many Nigerians in Canada are asked by friends and relatives to "help with the forms". Helping for free is one thing. Charging for advice or representation without authorization is unlawful under section 91 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, and IRCC states plainly that it "will not deal with unauthorized immigration representatives".

IRCC lists the people who may act for a fee:

  • immigration consultants who are members in good standing of the CICC;
  • lawyers who belong to a Canadian provincial or territorial law society;
  • paralegals who belong to a provincial or territorial law society; and
  • notaries who belong to the Chambre des notaires du Québec.

Anyone can be checked through IRCC's representative search at Canada.ca/immigration-representative. In 2023 the College had 11,750 licensees, according to the regulatory analysis published in the Canada Gazette.

The path to an RCIC licence

A Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) qualifies in three stages. The CICC sets the current rules; check its "How do I become an RCIC?" pages for the version in force when you apply.

  1. Education. Complete the College's required entry-level programme, the graduate diploma in immigration and citizenship law. Check the College's site for the approved institutions, admission conditions and language requirements.
  2. Entry-to-practice exam (EPE). The College says that if you want to apply for a licence as an RCIC, "you must pass this exam first". The exam is offered online, you may attempt it a maximum of 4 times, and a $75 deferral fee applies if you move your sitting before the stated deadline (CICC page modified 12 February 2026). Exam and application fees are on its dates, deadlines and fees page.
  3. Licence application. After passing, apply to the College with the identity, good character and other documents it lists, then meet the College's ongoing requirements and code of conduct, which it publishes for licensees.

Licence types

The College also licenses Regulated International Student Immigration Advisors (RISIA), who advise students through a designated institution. If your interest is only international student advising, ask your institution about that route.

What unlicensed help risks

For the client, the risk is real: IRCC warns that applicants can lose money and that the application may be refused, and the applicant remains responsible for everything in it. False or misleading information is misrepresentation, which can lead to a ban on applying.

For the helper, criminal penalties already exist under the Act. In December 2024 the government also proposed an administrative penalty regime in the Canada Gazette, Part I, with a baseline of $5,000 for unauthorized representation or advice, $15,000 for each misrepresentation violation, and a cap of $1.5 million per notice. That was a proposal at the time of publication; check the final regulations before relying on the amounts.

Agents in Nigeria

Many Lagos and Abuja "travel agents" offer Canadian visa services. They cannot legally charge to represent or advise on a Canadian application unless they fall into one of IRCC's authorized groups. Unpaid help by family members is allowed, but the applicant must still declare it on the use of a representative form where asked.

Help that stays within the law

You can still support family and friends without a licence, provided you are not paid or promised anything in return. Useful, lawful help includes pointing people to IRCC's own guides and checklists, helping them scan and upload documents, explaining what a document checklist asks for, and checking that names and dates match the passport. What you should not do is advise on which programme to choose, write their answers to eligibility questions, or take money "for processing". If a case needs judgement, send them to an authorized representative they can verify on the IRCC search.

Building a practice

Once licensed, an RCIC usually sets up as a sole proprietor or corporation. Practical steps:

  • register the business (Ontario charges $60 for a sole proprietorship name or $300 to incorporate; see registering a sole proprietorship in Ontario);
  • hold client money in the way the College's rules require and keep written retainer agreements;
  • take payment from Nigerian clients only through traceable channels and issue receipts; and
  • register for GST/HST when your revenue requires it.

Plan the economics before you enrol. The education, exam, College membership and insurance costs come before your first client, and new consultants often start part-time inside an established firm. Many build a niche, such as study permits from West Africa or spousal sponsorship, where community referrals matter. Whatever the niche, keep your marketing within the College's rules: no promises of approval and no implied links to IRCC.

Where Pryme fits

Nigerian clients often pay in naira or dollars. A Pryme Business Account opened from Canada can receive naira and dollars, and invoicing with verifiable receipts from VerifyDoc.ai gives clients a record they can check. The Compliance agent prepares checks; you approve.

Questions people ask

Can I charge to help Nigerians with Canadian visa forms without a licence?

No. Only CICC members in good standing, lawyers, law society paralegals and Quebec notaries may charge. IRCC will not deal with unauthorized representatives.

How many times can I take the RCIC entry-to-practice exam?

A maximum of 4 times, according to the CICC page modified 12 February 2026.

How do I check if a consultant is licensed?

Use IRCC's representative search at Canada.ca/immigration-representative, and the CICC public register.

What is the penalty for unauthorized immigration advice in Canada?

Criminal penalties exist under the Act. A proposed administrative regime (Canada Gazette, December 2024) set a $5,000 baseline for unauthorized representation and a $1.5 million cap per notice; check whether it is in force.
