Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Australia

Where to check the AUD to naira rate before you convert

The CBN quotes naira per US dollar only. Build your own AUD reference from two official rates, then judge any quote by what actually arrives.

The short answer

There is no official CBN rate for the Australian dollar: the CBN's NFEM page quotes naira per US dollar only. To check an AUD to naira quote, combine today's NFEM rate with a published AUD to USD rate to get a reference cross rate, then compare it with the naira amount your provider says will arrive after fees. We do not print a rate here because it changes daily.

What the official sources publish

CBN NFEM rate
Naira per US dollar, a volume-weighted average the CBN calls the official rate for the day. Published on the CBN's exchange rates page.
CBN monthly averages
Monthly average naira rates for the US dollar, sterling, the euro and the CFA franc. The Australian dollar is not listed.
ATO foreign exchange rates
Monthly, end-of-financial-year and end-of-calendar-year rates for tax returns, not live trading. The ATO links to the Reserve Bank of Australia for daily rates.
Provider quotes
What you can actually get: the rate, the fee and the naira amount delivered, shown before you confirm.

How to build a reference rate

  1. Take today's NFEM rate from the CBN page (naira per US dollar).
  2. Take today's US dollars per Australian dollar from a published reference source, such as the daily rates the ATO points to.
  3. Multiply them. The result is a reference naira-per-AUD figure.
  4. Compare it with the provider's quote, after fees.

Worked example (illustrative figures only): if the NFEM rate were ₦1,400 per dollar and one Australian dollar bought $0.66, the reference would be 1,400 x 0.66 = ₦924 per A$1. A provider quoting ₦900 per A$1 with no fee is about 2.6% below the reference. On A$1,000 that is ₦24,000 less than the reference amount of ₦924,000. A provider quoting ₦915 with an A$5 fee delivers 995 x 915 = ₦910,425, which in this example is better than ₦900,000.

Reading the quote

  • The rate: naira per Australian dollar. Higher is better for you when sending.
  • The fee: a separate charge, sometimes zero with a weaker rate.
  • The amount delivered: the only figure that combines both. Compare this across providers for the same amount and payout method.
  • Payout method: bank deposit, mobile wallet or cash pickup can be priced differently.
  • Timing: some quotes are locked for a set time; others are set when the money is processed.

Why quotes differ from the CBN rate

Remittance providers set their own rates and margins. The NFEM rate is a volume-weighted average of trades in the official market, not a retail price, and BDC rates differ again. A quote above or below the reference is not wrong, but the gap is what the conversion costs you. For background on how the official rate is set, see how the NFEM rate works.

For tax records, not trading

If you need a rate for an Australian tax return, the ATO publishes monthly and year-end tables and says that for a currency not in its tables you may use any reasonable externally sourced rate. Those are for converting income after the event, not for deciding when to send. See which rate to use for the ATO.

Where to check today

  • The CBN exchange rates page for the NFEM rate.
  • A published AUD/USD reference rate for the same day.
  • Your provider's app, for the delivered naira amount before you confirm.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme does not hold Australian dollars, but if you hold USD, GBP or EUR in a Pryme account, Swap shows the naira rate and the fee before you approve. For sending from Australia, see sending money from Australia to a Nigerian account and Send.

Questions people ask

What is the official AUD to naira rate?

The CBN does not publish one. Its official NFEM rate is quoted against the US dollar; an AUD figure is a cross rate built from two rates.

Where can I see the naira rate today?

On the CBN's exchange rates page for naira per US dollar, then combine with a published AUD/USD rate. Your provider's app shows its own rate and fee before you confirm.

Why is my app's rate lower than the CBN rate?

Providers add a margin, and the NFEM rate is a volume-weighted market average rather than a retail price. Compare the naira amount delivered, after fees.

Which rate do I use for my Australian tax return?

The ATO publishes monthly and year-end rates and says a reasonable externally sourced rate can be used for currencies not in its tables.
