Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

AI agents

AI agents for UK tradespeople: quotes, deposits and call-backs

How UK plumbers, electricians and builders can use AI agents for enquiries, quotes, deposits and chasing, and where the trade's rules need a person.

The short answer

For a UK tradesperson, AI agents are most useful on the work done in the van at 9pm: replying to enquiries, turning a site visit into a written quote, taking deposits, sending cancellation information to home customers and chasing final invoices. Pricing a job, judging the work and handling disputes stay with you, as do CIS and VAT decisions.

Where the hours go

Most sole traders and small firms in the trades lose jobs in the gaps, not on site. An enquiry left unanswered for two days goes to someone else. A quote promised on Friday goes out on Wednesday. A final invoice waits until the weekend, then sits unpaid. None of this is skilled work, and all of it costs money. It is also the kind of work an agent can do from your own records: your price list, your diary, your terms and your past jobs.

TaskWhat an agent can doWhat stays with you
EnquiriesReply within minutes, ask for photos, postcode and timing, offer survey slots from your diaryDeciding which jobs to take
QuotesDraft a written quote from your site notes and price list, with your terms attachedThe price, and anything unusual
DepositsRequest a deposit by your rule, confirm when it lands, book the start dateWhether to waive or change it
Home customersSend the cancellation information consumer law requires, record the customer's request to start earlyJudging any dispute
Invoices and chasingInvoice on completion, chase on a cadence, log repliesInterest, claims, payment plans
RecordsMatch receipts for materials to jobs, keep CIS and VAT records tidySigning returns

Quoting and cancellation rights for work in people's homes

When you agree a contract with a consumer in their home, rather than at your premises, the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 usually treat it as an off-premises contract. The customer then generally has 14 days to cancel, and you must give them information about that right, including a cancellation form. If you do not, the cancellation period can be extended by up to 12 months.

If the customer wants work to start within those 14 days, the regulations expect them to ask for that expressly, and if they then cancel they may have to pay for the work done so far. An agent is useful here because the steps are fixed: send the information with every home quote, record the customer's written request to start early, and keep both with the job. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, services must also be carried out with reasonable care and skill, and anything you say about the work can become part of the contract, so a quote the agent drafts should say only what you will do.

CIS and VAT: rules an agent can track

If you work in construction as a contractor or subcontractor, the Construction Industry Scheme may apply. Contractors must verify subcontractors with HMRC and usually deduct 20% from labour payments to registered subcontractors, or 30% if they are not registered, and send monthly returns. VAT-registered businesses supplying building and construction services to other VAT-registered businesses within CIS may need to use the domestic reverse charge, where the customer accounts for the VAT instead of the supplier. The reverse charge does not apply to supplies to end users, such as a homeowner.

An agent can hold each subcontractor's verification status, apply the deduction you have confirmed is right, draft the monthly return for you to submit, and flag invoices where the reverse charge may apply so you or your accountant can check. It should not decide whether a customer is an end user or whether a job is within CIS; those are judgements that change the tax.

A worked example: an electrician in Derby

This is an illustrative example. A self-employed electrician gets about 40 enquiries a month through his website and messages. He used to reply in the evenings and lose some jobs to quicker competitors.

  • The support agent replies to each enquiry within minutes, asks for photos of the consumer unit and offers two survey slots from his diary.
  • After a survey, he dictates notes. The sales agent drafts a quote for a £3,200 rewire from his price list, attaches his terms and the cancellation information, and he approves it from his phone.
  • The customer accepts and asks to start in five days. The agent records that request, sends a £640 deposit request (his rule is 20%) and books the start date once the deposit lands.
  • On completion, the finance agent sends the final invoice for £2,560 and a reminder seven days later. A query about an extra socket goes to him, not to an automated reply.

His evenings are now about 20 minutes reviewing what the agents did and approving quotes. The agents did not price the job or decide whether the extra socket was in scope.

What to keep in your own hands

  • Pricing, and any discount or change to the scope of work.
  • Anything about safety, certification or the quality of the work.
  • Complaints and disputes, including whether a customer's cancellation is valid.
  • CIS status and VAT treatment decisions, with your accountant.
  • Business customers who pay late: whether to claim statutory interest under the Late Payment Act or chase gently.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business account comes with five agents. The Sales agent drafts quotes and follow-ups and never prices above the band you set; Pryme invoicing issues the invoice from the same account; the Finance agent matches deposits and payments as they land; the Chief of Staff brings you the decisions in a morning brief. For chasing, read Chasing late payments in the UK, and for collections in general see AI for accounts receivable.

Questions people ask

Do customers have 14 days to cancel building work?

Often, if the contract was agreed in their home or away from your premises. You must give cancellation information. If they ask you to start early and then cancel, they may owe for work done.

Can an AI agent price my jobs?

It can draft a quote from your price list and site notes, but the price and any change to scope should be your decision.

Can an agent handle my CIS returns?

It can track verifications, apply deductions you have confirmed and draft the monthly return. You or your accountant should check and submit it.

Does the VAT reverse charge apply to homeowners?

No. The domestic reverse charge for construction services does not apply to supplies to end users such as homeowners.
