Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

AI for accounts receivable: chasing invoices well

How AI agents chase unpaid invoices, what late-payment law lets you charge in the UK and EU, and where a person must step in before a customer is lost.

Part of the guideAI agents for business finance: what they can and can't do

The short answer

An AI agent can run most of accounts receivable: sending reminders on a schedule, adjusting tone to each customer's history, answering simple questions, matching payments as they arrive and escalating disputes. It works best with clear payment terms and a written escalation policy. A person should still agree any write-off, settlement, new payment plan or statutory interest claim above a set amount.

Late payment is a cash problem first and a relationship problem second. AI helps with both, because it never forgets to chase and it can read the customer's history before it writes. This article covers collections only; the wider case for agents in finance is in our guide to AI agents for business finance.

What an AR agent does, step by step

A good accounts receivable agent works through the same cycle a careful credit controller would, but on every invoice, every day.

  1. Before the due date. Sends the invoice, confirms it was received and checks the purchase-order number is right, which removes the most common excuse for paying late.
  2. On the due date. Sends a short, polite reminder with a payment link and remittance details.
  3. After the due date. Follows up on a schedule (for example at 3, 10 and 21 days), changing tone with each step and with the customer's track record.
  4. When the customer replies. Answers routine questions such as a copy invoice, a statement or bank details from your records, and logs any promise to pay with a date.
  5. When money arrives. Matches the payment to the right invoice, including part-payments and one transfer covering several invoices, and stops the chase.
  6. When something is wrong. Flags a dispute, a complaint or a broken promise, gathers the history and hands it to a named person.

Matching is where many AR tools fall down. If a payment arrives with a vague reference, the agent must propose a match and explain why, not guess. Our article on AI bank reconciliation explains how good matching works.

What the law lets you charge

An agent can include late-payment interest and compensation in reminders, but only on the basis your contract and local law allow. The rules differ by region.

RegionWhen a business invoice becomes lateWhat you can claim
United KingdomOn the agreed date; if none is agreed, 30 days after the customer receives the invoice or the goods or servicesStatutory interest at 8% plus the Bank of England base rate, and fixed compensation of £40 (under £1,000), £70 (£1,000 to £9,999.99) or £100 (£10,000 or more)
European UnionOn the contractual date; if none is set, 30 calendar days after the invoice is receivedInterest at the contract rate or the national statutory rate, plus a flat €40 per late invoice (some countries set more)
United StatesSet by contract and state lawInterest and fees only as the contract and state law permit; there is no single federal late-payment statute for business debts

Bank of England base rate was 3.75% on 30 June 2026 and was held at that level in September, so UK statutory interest for the second half of 2026 is 11.75% a year. The EU publishes each country's statutory rate every six months; for July to December 2026 it lists, for example, 10.52% in Germany and 12.40% in France.

Worked example

A UK supplier invoices £8,000 on 30-day terms. The customer pays 45 days after the due date.

Daily interest
£8,000 x 11.75% / 365 = £2.58 a day
Interest for 45 days
£2.58 x 45 = about £115.89
Fixed compensation
£70 (debt between £1,000 and £9,999.99)
Total claimable
about £185.89 on top of the £8,000

Whether you claim it is a commercial choice. Many businesses waive it for a good customer and enforce it for chronic late payers. That choice is exactly the kind of decision an agent should prepare and a person should make.

Tone, timing and the customer relationship

The most useful thing an AI agent adds is consistency with judgement. Rules-based dunning sends the same email to a customer who has paid on time for five years and one who never has. An agent can read the history and adjust.

  • Reliable payer, first slip. A friendly note, assuming an oversight, with the invoice attached.
  • Repeat late payer. A firmer reminder that states the terms, and a request for a payment date.
  • Customer in difficulty. Stops chasing and hands to a person who can discuss a plan.
  • Disputed invoice. Stops chasing at once. Chasing a disputed amount damages trust and may breach your own terms.

Write these rules down. They become the agent's mandate, and they let you check later that it followed them.

Consumer debts are different

If you collect from individuals rather than businesses, stricter rules apply. In the US, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the CFPB's Regulation F govern third-party collectors of consumer debts, including limits on call frequency and rules for email and text messages, with an easy way to opt out of electronic messages. In the UK, consumer credit collection falls under FCA rules and the Consumer Duty. Do not point a business-to-business collections agent at consumer debts without checking which rules apply.

Where a person must step in

  • Agreeing a write-off, discount or settlement above a set amount.
  • Offering a payment plan or new terms.
  • Claiming statutory interest or compensation, or referring a debt to a collection agency or court.
  • Any reply that mentions a complaint, hardship, legal action or a change of bank details.
  • Stopping supply to a customer.

These are the same principles as in our article on decisions a person should make: anything that changes money owed, contractual terms or the relationship goes to a named person, with the context already gathered. The parent guide on AI agents in finance explains how to set those limits as a written mandate with a ceiling.

Measuring whether it works

Track a few numbers before and after you switch the agent on:

  • Days sales outstanding (average days from invoice to payment).
  • Share of invoices paid by the due date.
  • Share of overdue value older than 60 days.
  • Number of disputes and how long they take to resolve.
  • Customer complaints about reminders. If this rises, the tone rules need work.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme business accounts include invoicing, and a Finance agent that prepares work inside a mandate with a ceiling; above the ceiling, a person decides, and an audit trail records what happened. Business accounts hold NGN, USD, GBP and EUR with local details, and money stays in the currency it arrived in.

Outside Nigeria, Pryme's activities are carried out through regulated partners. For formal debt recovery, use a provider that offers it; this article explains when to escalate and what to look for.

Questions people ask

Can AI chase unpaid invoices automatically?

Yes. An AI agent can send reminders on a schedule, adjust tone to each customer, answer simple questions and stop when payment arrives. It should hand disputes, hardship and any settlement to a person.

How much interest can I charge on a late invoice in the UK?

Unless your contract says otherwise, statutory interest is 8% a year above the Bank of England base rate, plus fixed compensation of £40, £70 or £100 depending on the debt. With base rate at 3.75% on 30 June 2026, that is 11.75% a year for July to December 2026.

Will automated payment reminders annoy my customers?

They can if every customer gets the same message. Reminders that reflect the customer's history, stop immediately on a dispute and come from a named contact tend to work better than blunt sequences.

Does the FDCPA apply to chasing business invoices?

The FDCPA covers consumer debts, mainly collected by third parties, so ordinary business-to-business invoices are generally outside it. State laws and your contract still apply, so check before using aggressive tactics.

What should an AI never do in collections?

It should not agree write-offs or payment plans above a set limit, threaten legal action, change payment details or keep chasing a disputed invoice. Those need a person.
