Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

AI agent chasing unpaid invoices from Nigerian customers

How an AI agent tracks overdue invoices from Nigerian customers and drafts reminders you approve, plus the records to keep in case of court.

The short answer

An AI agent can watch which invoices are overdue, match incoming payments to them, draft polite reminders on a schedule you set and keep a log of every message. The owner or a named person approves each send, and decides on escalation, discounts and any formal demand. Kept properly, the log becomes the evidence you need if the debt goes to a small claims court or a lawyer.

Late payment is normal in Nigerian business-to-business trade, and the cost of chasing it falls on small firms. When the owner is abroad, chasing often stops altogether: the manager does not want to annoy a big customer, and the owner sees the problem only when cash is short. An agent changes the economics of chasing because it never forgets a due date. The decisions still belong to people.

What the agent does

TaskAgentOwner or named person
Track due dates from issued invoicesYes, dailySets payment terms per customer
Match incoming transfers to invoicesYes, using references and amountsResolves part-payments and unclear transfers
Draft reminders before and after the due dateYes, using your templatesApproves each send
Choose channel: email, WhatsApp, letterSuggests based on historyDecides
Log every message and replyYesReviews the log weekly
Offer a payment plan or discountNoDecides and agrees in writing
Send a formal letter of demandDrafts itApproves, or passes to a lawyer

A reminder schedule that works

  1. Five days before due: a friendly note with the invoice attached and the account details.
  2. On the due date: a short reminder that payment is due today.
  3. Seven days overdue: a firmer message asking for a payment date.
  4. Twenty-one days overdue: a call from the account manager, with the agent preparing a statement of account.
  5. Forty-five days overdue: owner approval to suspend credit and send a formal demand.

Every message should state the invoice number, amount, due date and how to pay. Tone matters in Nigeria's relationship-driven trade: polite, specific and consistent beats aggressive. Approving each send lets you hold back a reminder when you know a customer has a real problem.

Worked example

Example only. You have 40 open invoices worth ₦18,600,000. The agent finds 9 overdue, worth ₦5,100,000. It drafts 9 reminders; you approve 7 and hold 2 for customers you will call. Within a week, 4 pay ₦2,300,000, one asks for a plan on ₦600,000, and the agent records a promise to pay from another. Overdue falls to ₦2,800,000, and you know which customers to discuss with your manager.

Records that matter later

Chasing well also builds your case if you have to sue:

  • Acknowledgements. LawCare Nigeria explains that contract debts are generally subject to a six-year limitation period under state limitation laws, and that an acknowledgement of the debt in writing signed by the debtor can restart time. A customer's email saying "we will pay the ₦600,000 next month" is valuable; the agent should flag and save it.
  • A clean statement of account. Invoices, payments, credit notes and the balance, with dates.
  • Proof of delivery. Signed delivery notes or acceptance emails.
  • The formal demand. In Lagos, the Small Claims Court Practice Direction 2023 requires a letter of demand on Form SCA 1, giving 14 days to pay, before a complaint for a liquidated sum of up to ₦5 million.

Computer records such as emails and system logs are admissible as electronic evidence subject to section 84 of the Evidence Act 2011, so keep the original messages and the system that produced them.

Signals the agent should raise

  • A customer who used to pay on time now pays later each month.
  • Part-payments of round sums with no reference to an invoice.
  • A customer asking for new credit while older invoices are open.
  • Disputes raised only after a reminder, never before.
  • Payments arriving from an account that is not the customer's own.

Each of these is a prompt for a conversation, not a verdict. The agent raises it; you or your manager decide whether to tighten credit.

Customer data and the NDPA

Reminders use personal data: names, phone numbers and emails of your customers' staff. The Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 requires processing that is fair, limited to the purpose and secure (sections 24 and 39), and people must be told how their data is used (section 27). Chasing a debt under a contract is a different purpose from marketing; do not add these contacts to promotional lists without a proper basis. Store the reminder log in one controlled place, not on a manager's phone.

Interest on late payment

The sources checked for this article did not identify a general Nigerian statute giving interest on late business invoices, so interest depends on your contract. If your terms say nothing, the agent can remind but not charge. Put a late payment clause in new contracts; see late payment interest on Nigerian invoices.

Where Pryme fits

With a Pryme Business Account, opened from any country, invoicing and the Sales agent work together: the agent tracks what is overdue and drafts reminders, and nothing is sent without approval above the ceiling you set. Actions are recorded. When chasing fails, read the legal routes for recovering debts, and for the receivables side in general, AI for accounts receivable.

Questions people ask

Can AI chase unpaid invoices for me?

An agent can track due dates, match payments, draft reminders and log replies. A person should approve each send and decide on plans, discounts and formal demands.

How long can I wait before suing for an unpaid invoice in Nigeria?

Contract debts are generally subject to six-year limitation periods under state laws, and a written, signed acknowledgement by the debtor can restart time. Ask a lawyer about your state.

Do I need a demand letter before small claims court in Lagos?

Yes. The Lagos Practice Direction requires a letter of demand on Form SCA 1 giving 14 days before filing a claim of up to ₦5 million.

Can I charge interest on late invoices in Nigeria?

Rely on your contract. The sources checked did not identify a general statute giving interest on late business invoices.
