Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United States

Afriex transfer to Nigeria delayed: what to check

Afriex emails you when funds are delivered but publishes no delivery time. Why a US transfer is slow, how to cancel before payout and get a refund.

The short answer

Afriex does not publish a delivery time for Nigeria; it emails you when your funds are delivered and asks you to contact support for any error. If the money has not yet reached the recipient's account you can call or email to cancel, and Afriex says refunds take 1 to 7 business days; once a transfer is delivered it cannot be cancelled or refunded. Check the recipient's details, your card payment and the recipient's bank before you escalate.

An Afriex transfer from the US usually goes through without any fuss, so a delay can be stressful, especially when family are waiting. This guide sets out what Afriex's FAQ says as at October 2026, the usual reasons a transfer to Nigeria is slow, and the order in which to check things.

What Afriex says

  • "You will receive an email notifying you when your funds are delivered."
  • For any error message, contact customer support.
  • "If the funds have not been transferred to the recipient's account, you can call or email us" to cancel.
  • "Once the transfer is delivered, no refund or cancellation is possible."
  • Refunds: email hello@afriex.co; processing takes 1 to 7 business days.
  • Phone lines: +1 (866) 627-5738, +1 (587) 856-0556 and +44 191 743 1786.

The FAQ does not give a delivery time for Nigeria or list causes of delay.

Common reasons for a delay

These are typical causes for transfers to Nigerian accounts, not a list Afriex has published.

CauseSignWhat to do
Account number or bank wrongTransfer stuck or failedContact Afriex with the reference at once
Name does not match the accountHeld or returnedGive Afriex the exact account name
Identity or compliance checkStatus pending, request for informationAnswer promptly in the app or by email
Debit card payment declined or reversedTransfer not startedCheck with your bank, then retry
Receiving bank slow or offlineAfriex shows sent, recipient sees nothingRecipient checks bank app and asks the bank
Weekend or public holidaySlow bank processingAllow for the bank's hours

Name mismatches are the most avoidable. Our guide to name mismatches and BVN records explains why Nigerian banks check names, and US bank holidays covers timing around holidays.

The order to check things

  1. Your email. Look for the delivery email and for any request for more information, including in spam.
  2. The app. Check the transfer status and the recipient details you entered.
  3. Your card. Confirm the debit card payment went through and was not reversed.
  4. The recipient's bank. Ask them to check the account history in their bank app, not just SMS alerts.
  5. Afriex support. Contact support with the transfer reference, the amount and the time sent.

Cancelling and refunds

If the money has not reached the recipient's account, Afriex says you can call or email to cancel. Do it quickly: once the transfer is delivered, Afriex says no cancellation or refund is possible. If a refund is agreed, Afriex says it takes 1 to 7 business days. Separately, under the CFPB's remittance rule, a US consumer can generally cancel a covered transfer free of charge if the request is received within 30 minutes of paying and the money has not been picked up or deposited, with a full refund within three business days.

If it never arrives

If the funds are not available by the date the provider disclosed, that is an error under the CFPB rule. You can report it within 180 days of that date; the provider generally has 90 days to investigate and, for certain errors, must refund or resend at no extra cost. Our guides to your rights when a transfer goes wrong and filing a CFPB complaint explain how.

Preventing the next delay

Most delays can be avoided before you press send. Copy the recipient's account name exactly as their bank app shows it, and save them as a recipient once a transfer has gone through, so you are not retyping details each time. If a payment has a deadline, such as school fees or a hospital deposit, send a day or two early rather than on the evening it is due, and avoid relying on a Friday night transfer for a Monday payment. Keep the debit card linked to Afriex in date, with enough daily spending room at your bank for the amount. For a first transfer to a new recipient, a small test amount confirms the details work before you send the larger sum. And keep Afriex's emails out of your spam folder: a request for information that sits unread is one of the commonest reasons a transfer waits.

Worked example

Example only. Yemi in Houston sends $400 to his brother's GTBank account on Friday night. By Saturday afternoon his brother has nothing, and there is no delivery email. Yemi finds an email in his spam folder asking him to confirm the purpose of the transfer. He replies, and the transfer is delivered on Saturday evening. Had there been no email, he would have checked his card statement, asked his brother to check his GTBank app, then called Afriex with the reference.

Where Pryme fits

If your family hold naira with Pryme, their account sits with a licensed Nigerian microfinance bank and every credit is listed in the app, which makes it easier to confirm what has arrived. Outside Nigeria, Pryme's services are provided through regulated partners. See how it works.
