Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Bills

AEDC USSD code for buying electricity tokens

What AEDC has published about a USSD code for tokens, the bank USSD routes that sell electricity, and how to buy safely when you have no data.

The short answer

AEDC announced a USSD vending option in October 2022, but as at October 2026 we could not find the code string on AEDC's own customer service pages, so we do not print one. Most people buying AEDC tokens by USSD use their bank's code and its electricity or bills menu, entering the meter number and amount; the bank's menu and receipt confirm the biller is AEDC.

USSD is how many people in Abuja, Niger, Kogi and Nasarawa buy power when there is no data or the phone is a basic handset. The question 'what is the AEDC USSD code' has a less tidy answer than you might expect, and getting it wrong can send money to the wrong place. Here is what is confirmed, what is not, and the safe way to buy.

What AEDC has published

ThisDay reported on 11 October 2022 that AEDC, closing its Customer Service Week, introduced a USSD vending code for customers. The report does not give the code or the steps. AEDC's customer service page, as at October 2026, lists its call centre, WhatsApp and Telegram lines, a Payment Hub (pay4energy.abujaelectricity.com), a tariff checker and its apps, but not a USSD string for token purchase.

Bank USSD routes that sell electricity

Most banks' USSD menus include bill payments, and electricity is usually one of the billers. Examples from the banks' own or published pages:

BankWhat its page showsSource date
FCMBMeter token: *329*3*amount*meter number# (as listed in Kuda's guide to bank USSD codes)Oct 2025
Polaris Bank*833*2# opens bill payments, which include electricitySep 2023
Unity Bank*7799# page lists electricity codes for Eko and Ikeja only; no AEDC code shownundated

The general pattern is the same at most banks: dial the bank's code, choose bills or electricity, pick AEDC (sometimes shown as Abuja Electric or Abuja Disco), choose prepaid, enter the meter number and the amount, confirm with your USSD PIN. The token arrives by SMS. Menus change, so follow what your bank's menu shows rather than a code copied from elsewhere.

Steps for a safe USSD purchase

  1. Dial your own bank's USSD code from the phone number registered to your account.
  2. Choose bills or electricity, then AEDC prepaid.
  3. Enter your meter number. If the menu shows the customer name and address, check them before you continue.
  4. Enter the amount and confirm with your PIN.
  5. Wait for the SMS with the token and receipt details. Save it until the token is loaded.

If the token does not arrive

  • Check your bank SMS alerts: if you were debited, the transaction reference is your evidence.
  • Contact your bank first; it can trace the vend through its bill-payment provider.
  • If the bank says the token was vended, ask AEDC to retrieve it from the meter number, using the reference.
  • Do not buy a second token for the same amount until the first is traced.

If a token arrives but the meter rejects it, the cause may be the TID rollover rather than the USSD channel: AEDC's TID FAQ says meters that missed the update show 'used' for new tokens until two free key change tokens are entered. See AEDC token rejected: causes and fixes.

Why a code from social media is risky

Lists of 'AEDC codes' circulate on WhatsApp and blogs. Some are bank codes with AEDC as a menu option, which is fine. Others are codes for a payment company you have never dealt with, which may ask you to link your bank account or card. A few are simply wrong. The safest rule is to buy through a channel you already bank with, or through AEDC's own app and Payment Hub, and to treat any code that asks for your card number or full PIN in a message as a warning sign. AEDC's customer service page also lists its official social handles (@aedcelectricity on X and Instagram, @abujaelectricity on Facebook), so check a post's source before you trust a code.

Charges

USSD sessions are often charged by the network or bank, and some bill-payment providers add a convenience fee. Neither AEDC nor the bank pages we read state a fixed fee for an electricity vend, so check the confirmation screen and your bank's tariff. The units you get are your amount, less VAT and any debt deduction, divided by your band's tariff (see how many units ₦5,000 buys).

Other ways if USSD fails

AEDC's MyPower app and web app, launched in October 2026, sell tokens and show receipts (Blueprint, 8 October 2026). Bank apps, fintech apps and POS agents are the other routes. Compare them in every way to buy an AEDC token.

Where Pryme fits

If you have data, you can buy AEDC tokens in the Pryme app (/p/electricity), where you enter the meter number, see any charge before approving, and keep the receipt in your history.

Questions people ask

What is the USSD code for AEDC token?

AEDC announced a USSD vending option in 2022, but we could not confirm the code on AEDC's own pages as at October 2026. Use your bank's USSD bills menu, or confirm any AEDC code with AEDC on 08039070070.

How do I buy AEDC token with USSD?

Dial your bank's USSD code, choose bills or electricity, select AEDC prepaid, enter the meter number and amount, and confirm with your PIN. The token comes by SMS.

How do I buy AEDC token with FCMB USSD?

Kuda's guide lists FCMB's meter token format as *329*3*amount*meter number#. Follow the menu prompts to choose AEDC.

I bought AEDC token on USSD but did not get it, what do I do?

Check you were debited, then contact your bank with the transaction reference. If the bank confirms the vend, ask AEDC to retrieve the token for your meter number.
