Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Which account details to give for USD, GBP and EUR payments

The exact details a payer abroad needs to send you dollars, pounds or euros, which ones to avoid mixing up, and how to share them safely.

The short answer

Give the payer the details that match the currency and their payment system: for US dollars, an account number with a routing number (or a SWIFT code for international wires); for pounds, an account number and sort code; for euros, an IBAN and, if asked, a BIC. Always include the account name exactly as it appears on your account.

Why the details matter

Most failed or delayed foreign payments come down to wrong or incomplete details: a missing name, a routing number used for the wrong type of payment, or an IBAN typed with a missing character. Getting this right the first time saves days of tracing. For the meaning of each term, see IBAN, sort code, routing number and SWIFT. This guide is about what to send, currency by currency.

The details, currency by currency

CurrencyLocal paymentWhat the payer needsInternational (SWIFT) payment
USDACH or domestic wire inside the USAccount name, account number, routing number, account type if asked, bank name and addressAccount name, account number, SWIFT/BIC, bank name and address
GBPFaster Payments or Bacs inside the UKAccount name, account number (8 digits), sort code (6 digits)Account name, IBAN, SWIFT/BIC
EURSEPA transfer inside the eurozone and SEPA areaAccount name, IBAN, BIC if askedAccount name, IBAN, SWIFT/BIC
NGNNIP transfer inside NigeriaAccount name, 10-digit account number, bank nameUsually through a remittance provider or bank

US dollars: two kinds of routing

US banks often publish one routing number for ACH and a different one for wires. Your account screen should label which is which. If a payer uses the ACH number for a wire, the payment may bounce. Our explainer on ACH and wire transfers sets out the difference.

Pounds: sort code and account number

A UK payer only needs the account name, sort code and account number. Ask the payer to type your name exactly as it appears on the account; many banks compare names and may warn the payer if they do not match.

Euros: the IBAN does the work

A SEPA payment needs an IBAN and the account name. SEPA Instant payments can arrive in seconds where both banks support them.

Local details vs SWIFT, and fixing mistakes

If you have local details for a currency, ask the payer to use them. A domestic payment in the payer's own country tends to cost them less, arrives faster and avoids deductions by intermediary banks. SWIFT is the fallback when the payer is in a country without access to your local details, or when their bank only offers international wires. Our guide to SWIFT vs local rails explains the cost difference.

If a payer uses the wrong details

Mistakes happen. What to do depends on what went wrong.

  • Wrong routing or sort code, right name. The payment usually bounces back to the payer after some days. Ask them to wait for the return and send again with the correct details.
  • Right details, wrong currency. If a payer sends euros to your dollar details through SWIFT, a bank along the way may convert it at its own rate. Ask the payer to check before they send.
  • Typo in the account number. Payment systems often reject numbers that fail a check. If it went through to someone else, only the payer's bank can start a recall, so the payer must contact them quickly.
  • Payment arrived but is short. Usually a sending or intermediary fee. Ask the payer for the transfer confirmation showing what was deducted.

How to share details safely

  1. Copy the details from your account screen, not from memory, and send them in writing.
  2. Include your full account name exactly as shown.
  3. Send a small test payment first if the amount is large.
  4. If anyone tells you your details have changed, confirm by calling the person you know, not by replying to the message. Changed-details fraud is one of the most common scams targeting the diaspora.
  5. Never send your login, PIN or authenticator codes to a payer. They only need receiving details.

Worked example: a three-currency month

Example only. Kemi, a translator in Lagos, has clients in New York, Leeds and Lyon.

  • New York client: she sends account name, account number and the ACH routing number, and labels it "ACH".
  • Leeds client: account name, sort code and account number.
  • Lyon client: account name and IBAN.
  • A new client in Dubai: no local option for any of her currencies, so she sends her USD SWIFT details and expects the payment to take longer and possibly arrive with a deduction.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Personal Account gives you local account details for USD, GBP and EUR, plus a naira account, all in your own name, and it can be opened from any country. Each currency's details are shown in the app to copy and share. Payments stay in the currency they arrived in until you convert with Swap, which shows the rate first and the fee separately before you approve. Payments are protected with an authenticator app and transaction PIN; see security and multicurrency.

Questions people ask

What details do I give someone in America to send me dollars?

Give your account name, account number and routing number for a US domestic payment. For an international wire, give your account name, account number and SWIFT code instead. Label which routing number is for ACH and which for wire if they differ.

What details do I need to receive pounds from the UK?

Your account name, 8-digit account number and 6-digit sort code. A sender outside the UK may need your IBAN and SWIFT/BIC.

Is IBAN the same as account number?

No. An IBAN is a longer international format that includes a country code, check digits and the account number. Euro payments use the IBAN.

Can someone steal money with my account details?

Receiving details alone let people pay you, not withdraw money. Keep your login, PIN and authenticator codes private, and confirm any request to change details by phone.
