Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

Access Bank OTP not coming: what to do

Why Access Bank one-time codes fail to arrive, from DND settings and network delays to an old phone number or a SIM swap, and the fix for each cause.

The short answer

An Access Bank OTP usually fails to arrive because of a network delay, a full or blocked SMS inbox, Do-Not-Disturb settings on your line, or an old phone number on the account. If the number on your account is wrong, only Access Bank can change it, normally with ID; if your SIM stopped working without warning, call Access Bank at once on 07003000000 or another number from its site, because it may be a SIM swap.

A one-time password (OTP) is the code Access Bank sends to confirm a transfer, a card payment online, a login on a new device or a change to your profile. When it does not arrive, the payment stalls. The causes fall into a few groups, and most are fixed in minutes once you know which one you are dealing with.

Work out the cause

SymptomLikely causeFix
Codes arrive late or in burstsNetwork congestionWait, move to better signal, request one new code
Other SMS arrive, bank codes do notDND or message filtering on your lineAdjust DND to allow banking messages; check your phone's spam filter
No SMS at all arriveFull inbox, airplane mode, roaming, or a network faultClear space, restart, check roaming and network settings
Codes go to a number you no longer useOld phone number on the accountUpdate the number with Access Bank
Your SIM suddenly shows no servicePossible SIM swapCall Access Bank immediately, then your network
Card OTP fails only on one websiteThe merchant's verification pageTry again later or another payment method; see the declined-card guide

Fixes you can try yourself

  1. Check signal and restart the phone. Many delays clear once the phone reconnects.
  2. Clear old messages if your inbox is full, and check any spam or blocked-senders folder on your phone.
  3. Check your line's Do-Not-Disturb settings. Full DND on some networks can block messages from businesses, and your network's own help pages explain how to allow transactional messages.
  4. If you are abroad, make sure roaming is on for SMS, or ask the bank about alternatives.
  5. Request a code once and wait. Requesting several in a row can mean the code you type has already been replaced.

When the phone number on the account is wrong

If you changed numbers, codes keep going to the old one. Only Access Bank can change the number on your account, and because the phone number is the key to your codes, banks generally require you to prove who you are before changing it. Expect to be asked for ID, and possibly a branch visit. Our guide to changing your phone number on Access Bank explains the process. Until the number is updated, the USSD service will also not recognise your new line.

If you suspect a SIM swap

A SIM swap is when someone gets your mobile number moved to a new SIM, so your codes go to them. The signs are a phone that suddenly loses service for no clear reason, or alerts for transactions you did not make. Act in this order:

  1. Call Access Bank on a number from its own site, such as 07003000000 or 0201 280 2500, and ask for your account, card and digital channels to be blocked.
  2. Contact your mobile network to restore your line.
  3. Email contactcenter@accessbankplc.com with the time you lost service and any suspicious alerts, so there is a dated record.
  4. Change your app and internet banking passwords once your line is back.

Our guide on whether banks refund after fraud covers what happens next.

If you are abroad

Nigerians travelling or living abroad often find that bank codes stop arriving as soon as they land. Check that your Nigerian SIM has roaming switched on for SMS, which may cost you per message received on some plans, and keep the SIM in a phone you carry, even if you use a local SIM for data. Some customers keep their Nigerian line in a second phone for this reason. Before you travel, ask Access Bank whether there is another way to authorise payments while abroad, such as a token, and make sure the email address on your account is current so the bank can reach you if your line fails.

Ways to rely less on SMS

SMS codes depend on your phone network as much as on the bank. Where Access Bank offers a token or in-app authorisation for internet banking, it can be more reliable, especially when travelling; see the Access Bank internet banking token. Our explainer on authenticator apps vs SMS codes compares the two.

What to check first

  • Is the number Access Bank has for you the one in your phone right now?
  • Do other SMS messages arrive normally?
  • Is your line on full DND?
  • Is your SIM working, or has it suddenly lost service?

Where Pryme fits

Pryme does not send SMS codes. Accounts are secured with an authenticator app on your phone and a transaction PIN, so a network delay or SIM swap does not hand someone your codes. See Pryme security.

Questions people ask

Why am I not receiving OTP from Access Bank?

Common causes are network delays, a full inbox, DND settings on your line, roaming abroad, or an old phone number on your account. A sudden loss of service can mean a SIM swap.

How do I change the phone number for Access Bank OTP?

Contact Access Bank. Changing the number usually requires proof of identity and may need a branch visit, because codes go to that number.

Can DND block Access Bank OTP?

Full Do-Not-Disturb on some lines can block business messages. Check your network's help pages for how to allow transactional SMS.

What should I do if my SIM stops working suddenly?

Call Access Bank on a number from its site and ask for your account and channels to be blocked, then contact your network. It may be a SIM swap.
