Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

How to get an Access Bank POS (Access Closa) and the cost

Who can become an Access Closa agent, the documents and ₦50,000 working capital Access Bank lists, what is unpublished on terminal costs, and how to apply.

The short answer

To get an Access Bank POS as an agent, you join Access Closa, its agency banking network: Access Bank asks for a visible, accessible business location, minimum working capital of ₦50,000, a valid ID, a utility bill and, for companies, business registration documents. The bank does not publish a terminal fee or caution deposit on its agency page; it links a separate rates document, so ask for the current terms in writing before you sign.

There are two reasons people ask for a POS from Access Bank. Some want to become agents, offering cash withdrawals, deposits and transfers to their neighbourhood. Others run a shop and want customers to pay by card. Access Bank's published page covers the first, its Access Closa agency network. This guide sets out what that page says, what it leaves out, and what to ask before committing money.

What Access Closa agents do

Access Bank says its agents process transactions through point-of-sale terminals and mobile phones, and lists these services:

  • Cash deposits
  • Cash withdrawals
  • Funds transfer
  • Bill payments
  • Airtime purchase
  • Account opening

Agents earn from the transactions they handle. Access Bank's agency page does not publish its commission rates, so ask for the current schedule; the page links a document titled "CLOSA New Rates", which may set it out.

Who can apply and what Access Bank asks for

Who
Unregistered individuals; registered businesses (limited companies, sole proprietorships, partnerships, co-operative societies); and corporates with retail chains or large distribution networks.
Location
"A visible business location which is easily accessible."
Working capital
A minimum of ₦50,000.
Identification
A valid ID: voter's card, driver's licence, international passport or national ID card.
Address
A utility bill.
Companies
Business registration documents.

The ₦50,000 working capital is not a fee. It is the money you need on hand to run the business: cash for customers who withdraw, and a balance in your agent account for customers who deposit or transfer. Busy locations need far more.

Worked example (example only)

An agent starts the day with ₦30,000 cash and ₦20,000 in the agent wallet, the ₦50,000 minimum. A customer withdraws ₦25,000: the agent pays out cash and the wallet is credited, so cash falls to ₦5,000 and the wallet rises to ₦45,000. Two more withdrawal customers cannot be served until the agent moves money from the wallet to the bank and draws cash. That is why agents in busy markets keep several times the minimum.

What it costs: the terminal, deposit and charges

The agency page we checked does not state a terminal price, a caution deposit, a monthly fee, or settlement times. These are the terms that decide whether the business pays, so ask for each in writing:

Question to askWhy it matters
Is there a terminal fee, a refundable caution deposit, or both?Changes your start-up cost
Is there a minimum monthly transaction volume, and what if you miss it?Some terminals may be recalled if underused
What commission do you earn per transaction type?Your income
When are funds settled to your account?Your cash flow
Who repairs or replaces a faulty terminal, and at whose cost?Downtime costs customers
How do you reach support when a transaction fails?Disputes with customers

How to apply

  1. Choose your location and make sure it is visible and easy to reach.
  2. Open or confirm an Access Bank account for the business.
  3. Gather your ID, utility bill and, for a company, registration documents.
  4. Contact Access Bank to apply: the agency page lists contactcenter@accessbankplc.com and lines including 07003000000 and 0201 280 2500, or ask at a branch.
  5. Ask for the current rates document and the agent agreement, and read both before signing.
  6. When the terminal arrives, test it, and keep the support contacts at hand.

Access Bank also says its contact centre can verify agent locations, which is useful if you want to check that an "Access Closa" stand is genuine.

Agent or merchant: which do you need?

An agent terminal and a merchant terminal look alike but serve different purposes. An agent offers banking services to the public and earns commission, carrying the cash risk that comes with it. A merchant takes card payments for its own goods or services and pays a fee on each payment. If you run a pharmacy, salon or restaurant and only want customers to pay you, ask Access Bank about a merchant terminal rather than the agent programme; the terms, settlement and fees are different, and the agency page we checked does not cover them. Being clear on this before you apply saves time for you and the bank officer.

Running a POS business safely

  • Give a printed or digital receipt for every transaction.
  • Wait for the credit to show before handing over cash for a transfer.
  • Watch for card swaps and customers who claim a failed transaction after receiving cash; our guide to POS fraud in Nigeria covers the common tricks.
  • Keep a daily log of cash and wallet balances.

If you are a shop deciding how customers should pay, compare the options in POS terminal vs bank transfer.

Where Pryme fits

For shops that would rather take bank transfers than run a terminal, Pryme's bank-transfer checkout is free. Businesses in supported sectors with a Pryme Business Account can also join Spaces.

Questions people ask

How do I get an Access Bank POS machine?

Apply to become an Access Closa agent through Access Bank's contact centre or a branch, with a valid ID, a utility bill, business registration if you are a company, a visible location and at least ₦50,000 working capital.

How much is the Access Bank POS?

The agency page does not publish a terminal fee or caution deposit. It links a separate rates document; ask the bank for the current terms in writing.

What are the requirements for Access Closa?

A visible, accessible business location, minimum working capital of ₦50,000, a valid ID such as a voter's card, driver's licence, international passport or national ID, and a utility bill.

Can an individual without CAC registration become an Access Bank agent?

Yes. Access Bank lists unregistered individuals among those who can become Access Closa agents.
