Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

Who regulates Loans on Spaces? CBN, not the loan-app register

Loans on Spaces are lent by a CBN-licensed microfinance bank, so you will not find them on the FCCPC loan-app register. Here is how to check.

The short answer

Loans on Spaces are lent by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Ltd, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria, so the lender is supervised as a bank rather than registered as a digital money lender. That is why you will not find Loans on Spaces on the FCCPC's approved digital lenders register, which covers lending apps that are not banks. You can confirm the bank on the CBN's list of licensed microfinance banks.

Careful borrowers in Nigeria have learnt to check a loan app against the FCCPC register before they borrow, and that habit has saved many people from illegal lenders. Readers who run the same check on Loans on Spaces sometimes come back puzzled because it is not listed. The reason is the type of lender behind it, and this guide explains how the two systems differ and how to verify each one.

Two kinds of lender, two kinds of check

Lender typeWho licenses or approves itWhere you check
Commercial bank or microfinance bankCentral Bank of Nigeria (licence)The CBN's lists of licensed institutions on cbn.gov.ng
Digital money lender (a lending app that is not a bank)FCCPC (registration and approval under the 2025 regulations)The FCCPC's approved digital lenders list on fccpc.gov.ng
Loans on SpacesLent by Solid Allianze MFB, a CBN-licensed microfinance bankThe CBN's list of licensed microfinance banks

Microfinance banks are licensed banks. When writers at The Ledger checked the FCCPC register in October 2026, several microfinance banks were listed for their lending apps and others were not, which reflects that a bank's primary licence comes from the CBN, not the FCCPC. The register is the right test for an app that lends without a banking licence.

What the FCCPC regulations cover

The FCCPC made the Digital, Electronic, Online or Non-Traditional Consumer Lending Regulations under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2018, dated 21 July 2025. They set registration, disclosure, fair treatment and complaints rules for digital lenders. Implementation was suspended in April 2026 after an interim court order, and the FCCPC announced on 20 July 2026 that the Federal High Court in Lagos had discharged that order and the regulations were again operational. Our explainer on whether the FCCPC regulations are in force covers the case.

The regulations themselves describe the division of labour for complaints: disputes are handled by the lender or service provider in a regulated industry, and by the FCCPC where no sector regulator exists. For a bank, the CBN is that sector regulator. The FCCPC remains Nigeria's general consumer protection agency, so a consumer complaint is never wasted on it, but banking supervision sits with the CBN.

How to verify Solid Allianze MFB yourself

  1. Go to cbn.gov.ng and open the supervision section, which carries lists of licensed financial institutions, including microfinance banks.
  2. Search the microfinance bank list for "Solid Allianze". Check the exact name: Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Ltd.
  3. Note that the CBN publishes licence revocations as press releases; a bank on an old list should not appear in a later revocation notice.
  4. For deposits, the NDIC insures deposits in licensed banks up to the applicable limit; the NDIC site explains the current limit.
  5. Inside the Pryme app, the loan agreement names Solid Allianze MFB as the lender before you accept.

Why the difference matters to you

  • Supervision. A licensed bank is supervised for capital, risk and conduct by the CBN, not only approved to operate an app.
  • Credit reporting. CBN guidelines require banks to share data with licensed credit bureaus and check reports before granting credit; see how the credit bureaus work.
  • Complaints. You complain to the lender first, then escalate to the regulator; for a bank, that is the CBN's consumer protection channel.
  • Spotting fakes. A caller or app using the Pryme or Solid Allianze name but asking you to pay a fee to receive a loan is not the lender. Check our Loans on Spaces safety guide.

Common mix-ups

"It is not on the FCCPC list, so it is illegal"
Only true for a non-bank lending app. A licensed bank is checked on the CBN list instead.
"Pryme is the bank"
Pryme Financial Ltd is a technology company. The lender for Loans on Spaces is Solid Allianze MFB, and Naira deposits are held there.
"A microfinance bank is a loan app"
A microfinance bank is a licensed bank that may also lend through an app. Its licence comes from the CBN.
"Being licensed means every product is right for me"
A licence tells you the lender is supervised. You still read the agreement and decide whether the cost and date suit you.

What to check for any lender

  • Is it a bank? Check the CBN list.
  • Is it a lending app that is not a bank? Check the FCCPC approved list, as explained in how to check a loan app is registered.
  • Does the agreement name the lending entity, and does that name match the list exactly?
  • Does it show the full cost before you accept?

Where Pryme fits

Pryme Financial Ltd is a technology company, not a bank or a lender. It runs the app; Solid Allianze MFB is the lender for Loans on Spaces, which are offered based on how your account is run and accepted by you after reading the full agreement.

Questions people ask

Why is Loans on Spaces not on the FCCPC register?

Because the lender, Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank, is a CBN-licensed bank. The FCCPC register is the check for lending apps that are not banks.

Is Solid Allianze MFB licensed by CBN?

Yes, it is licensed by the CBN. You can confirm it on the CBN's list of licensed microfinance banks on cbn.gov.ng.

Who do I complain to about a Loan on Spaces?

Start with Pryme support in the app. If unresolved, escalate to the CBN's consumer protection channel; the FCCPC also handles consumer complaints generally.

Does the FCCPC regulate microfinance banks?

Banks are licensed and supervised by the CBN. The FCCPC's 2025 regulations say disputes in a regulated industry go through the lender, with the FCCPC acting where no sector regulator exists.
