Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Complaining to NIBSS: what it does and does not handle

NIBSS runs the switches behind NIP transfers and the BVN, but your complaint about a transfer or BVN record goes through your bank. Here is where.

The short answer

NIBSS runs the shared systems that banks use, including the NIBSS Instant Payment (NIP) transfer service and the Bank Verification Number database, but it is not where customers resolve transfer disputes or BVN errors. Transfer problems go to your bank, which can query NIBSS on your behalf, and then to the CBN's Consumer Protection Department; NIBSS's own BVN page says customer information updates are done physically at bank branches.

What NIBSS actually does

NIBSS provides infrastructure between financial institutions. Its NIP page, updated in April 2026, describes NIP as an account-number-based, real-time electronic funds transfer service: the sending institution can run a name enquiry to check the beneficiary's details before sending, funds are available in real time before settlement, and settlement between institutions happens in 12 sessions. The same page mentions a Transaction Status Query, which institutions use to check what happened to a transfer, and says fees follow approved pricing that institutions may mark up in line with CBN guidance.

NIBSS also maintains the BVN system. Its BVN page, updated October 2026, says enrolment happens at bank branches, with ten fingerprints and a facial image, and that a BVN is generated and confirmed by SMS within 24 hours.

Your contract is with your bank, not with NIBSS. NIBSS sits between banks; it does not hold your account, cannot see your app, and is not set up to take individual disputes.

Where each problem goes

ProblemGo toNotes
Transfer debited but not receivedYour bankThe bank can query the transfer through NIBSS

Bank not resolving any of the aboveCBN Consumer Protection DepartmentAfter the bank's waiting period

Tools NIBSS does offer the public

NIBSS runs a few self-service USSD codes. Its USSD validation page, updated November 2025, lists:

  • *565*0#: retrieve your BVN, ₦20, dialled from the phone number registered to your BVN. No BVN is returned if the number is linked to more than one BVN.
  • *565*1#: validate a BVN and see the registered name, ₦20.
  • *565*5#: NIP tracker for transfers in the last 48 hours, ₦20, from the phone tied to the sending account.

These are information tools. If the tracker shows your transfer succeeded but the recipient says the money did not arrive, the receiving bank needs to check; if it shows the transfer failed and you were debited, your bank owes you a reversal.

How to complain about a transfer properly

  1. Get the transaction details from your app or statement: amount, date, time, recipient bank and account, and the session ID or reference.
  2. Contact your bank through its official channels and ask for a ticket number.
  3. Ask the bank to confirm the status of the transfer with the receiving institution. That is the step that involves NIBSS.
  4. Allow the bank's response time. Guides published in May 2026 describe escalating to cpd@cbn.gov.ng after two weeks if the bank has not resolved it.
  5. Escalate to the CBN with the ticket number, your evidence and the bank's response.

Related guides: how banks recall a wrong transfer, transfer debited but not credited and what a pending NIP status means.

What to say to your bank

A clear request gets a faster answer. For example: "On 3 October at 15:10 I sent ₦45,000 to [account], [bank], session ID [ ]. The recipient has not been credited. Please confirm the status of this transfer with the receiving bank and either confirm the credit or reverse the debit." Ask for the ticket number before you end the call or chat, and note the name of the agent if one is given.

A worked example

Example only: Musa sends ₦45,000 to a supplier at 15:10. His app shows it as successful, but the supplier says nothing arrived. Musa dials *565*5# (₦20) and sees the transfer listed. He calls his bank with the session ID; the bank confirms with the receiving bank, which finds the credit was held because the supplier's account had a restriction. Neither Musa nor the supplier needed to contact NIBSS directly, and the one ₦20 query cost him less than a trip to the branch.

BVN problems

NIBSS's BVN page says that "update of customer information shall be done at their Bank Branches physically". So if your name, date of birth or phone number is wrong on your BVN, go to a branch of any bank where you hold an account, with ID and supporting documents. A CBN circular from 2016 sets limits on what can be changed and says changes are completed within five working days of all required documents; ask your bank what it needs.

Be careful with anyone who offers to "fix" your BVN for a fee through a contact at NIBSS. That is a common scam. See the BVN will be blocked call scam.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Waiting days for NIBSS to reply instead of opening a ticket with your bank.
  • Sharing your BVN and account details with callers who say they are from NIBSS.
  • Assuming a successful tracker result means the recipient has the money: it may be held at the receiving bank.

Questions people ask

Can I complain to NIBSS about a failed transfer?

Complain to your bank. NIBSS provides the transfer system between banks; your bank can query the transfer status and must reverse a failed debit.

How do I check if a transfer went through NIBSS?

NIBSS's *565*5# NIP tracker shows transfers from the last 48 hours for ₦20, from the phone linked to the sending account.

How do I correct my BVN details?

NIBSS says customer information updates are done physically at bank branches. Take ID and supporting documents to your bank.

Does NIBSS call customers about their BVN?

Treat any unexpected call claiming to be from NIBSS with suspicion. BVN issues are handled through your bank; never share your BVN, PIN or OTP with a caller.
