Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What happens to a loan you owe a failed bank

When a bank's licence is revoked your loan does not disappear. Who collects it, why the NDIC pursues it, and how to repay safely and get proof.

The short answer

Your loan survives the bank. When the CBN revokes a licence it appoints the NDIC as liquidator, and the liquidator collects outstanding loans because recoveries fund payments to depositors; with Heritage Bank the NDIC said it would recover about ₦700 billion of loans. Repay only through channels the NDIC or a successor bank confirms in writing, and keep proof.

Why the debt does not disappear

A loan is an asset of the bank. When a bank fails, its assets do not vanish: they pass to whoever handles the failure. Under section 12(2) of BOFIA 2020 the CBN appoints the NDIC as liquidator, as it did for Heritage Bank in June 2024. The liquidator steps into the bank's shoes as your creditor, with the same loan agreement, interest terms and security.

Loan recoveries are also how uninsured depositors get paid. Nairametrics reported in January 2026 that Heritage's liquidation dividends were funded from debt recovery, asset disposal and investments. At the start of the liquidation the NDIC said, as reported by BusinessDay, that Heritage was owed about ₦700 billion in loans and that it would recover them.

Who collects, depending on how the bank failed

How the failure was handledWho you owe
Liquidation (for example Heritage Bank, 2024)The NDIC as liquidator
Bridge bank (for example the 2011 cases)The bridge bank that took over the assets
Purchase and assumptionThe acquiring bank, if it took the loan book; otherwise the liquidator

In August 2011, the NDIC said the assets and liabilities of Afribank, Bank PHB and Spring Bank moved to Mainstreet, Keystone and Enterprise banks. Assets include loans, so borrowers then owed the bridge bank.

What enforcement looks like

A liquidator can enforce security just as the bank could: sell pledged property, call on guarantors or go to court. BOFIA 2020 also created a Special Tribunal for the Enforcement and Recovery of Eligible Loans (sections 102 to 132, as summarised by Mondaq), covering loans by banks and other financial institutions. KPMG notes its fees are 0.5% of the claim. Default can also follow you on your credit report.

If someone guaranteed your loan, the guarantee also survives. A liquidator can call on a guarantor just as the bank could, so a borrower who stops paying may be exposing a relative or employer to a demand.

Worked example

Example: you owed ₦1,200,000 when the bank closed, at 2% a month on the reducing balance, with ₦200,000 due monthly. If you stop paying for three months, the debt does not freeze: about ₦72,000 of interest accrues (2% of ₦1.2 million for three months, before penalties) and the missed instalments fall into arrears. Paying the liquidator on schedule avoids that growth.

Steps to repay safely

  1. Find the official notice for your bank on the NDIC or CBN website, or call the NDIC, and ask in writing how loan repayments should be made.
  2. Ask for a statement of your outstanding balance as at the closure date.
  3. Pay only into an account named in an official NDIC or successor-bank notice, never into a personal account.
  4. Keep every receipt and ask for a letter of liquidation when the loan is cleared, plus release of any collateral documents.
  5. If you also had a deposit at the bank, ask the liquidator whether it can be set against the loan; do not assume it will be.

Questions people ask

Do I still have to pay my loan if my bank has closed?

Yes. The loan becomes an asset of the liquidator (usually the NDIC) or of the bank that took over the business, and they can enforce it.

Who do I pay my Heritage Bank loan to?

The NDIC is Heritage's liquidator. Confirm the repayment account with the NDIC in writing before paying, and keep proof.

Can my deposit in the failed bank cancel my loan?

Ask the liquidator. Whether a deposit can be set against a loan depends on the case; do not stop repaying on the assumption that it will.

Can the NDIC sell my collateral?

As liquidator it can enforce the loan's security, including selling pledged property, in the same way the bank could.
