Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ghana

Can I send to Nigeria with the Western Union app in Ghana?

Whether Western Union's app or website takes Ghana senders for Nigeria, how to check it yourself, and what the Nigerian end offers: bank or cash.

The short answer

We could not confirm from a Western Union page that its app or website accepts senders in Ghana for transfers to Nigeria; in some countries Western Union offers online, app and agent sending, but availability is set country by country. Open the app or westernunion.com with Ghana selected to see what it offers, or use an agent. In Nigeria, Western Union pays bank accounts and cash pick-up, with cash capped by CBN rules.

Western Union is one of the oldest names in money transfer, and for many families it means a trip to an agent with a reference number. The question for a Nigerian in Ghana is whether the app now does the same job from a phone. The honest answer is that it depends on what Western Union offers in Ghana at the time you check, and we could not confirm that from an official page.

How Western Union sets availability

Western Union's services are offered country by country. Its Canada page for Nigeria, for example, describes three ways to send: online with a free profile, in the app (start on your phone and finish in store), or in person at an agent. Those are Canadian options; Ghana has its own website and its own mix. Do not assume the Canadian or UK experience applies.

How to check in two minutes

  1. Open the Western Union app or website and set Ghana as your sending country.
  2. Choose Nigeria as the destination and enter an amount.
  3. See which options appear: send online, start online and pay at an agent, or agent only.
  4. Note the payment methods offered (bank card, bank account, MoMo, cash at agent) and the payout options in Nigeria.
  5. If the app will only let you start a transfer, the payment step is at an agent.

What happens at the Nigerian end

Western Union's own pages describe two payout routes in Nigeria:

  • Bank account: its blog (1 February 2026) says the sender enters the receiver's full name and bank account number, names First Bank, GTBank and Access Bank as examples, and says money usually arrives within the same banking day but may take longer.
  • Cash pick-up: its Nigeria FAQ says the receiver needs their name, the MTCN, the expected amount, the sender's full name and sending country, proof of being 18 or older and valid ID (international passport, driver's licence, permanent voter's card, national identity card or BVN).

Under the CBN's 2026 foreign exchange manual, as reported by TheCable, international transfer payouts are in naira, and cash over the counter is capped at the naira equivalent of US$200; larger amounts go to a bank account. Western Union's Nigeria FAQ adds that receiving is free unless the receiver chooses a different currency. For the full pick-up process, see collecting a Western Union MTCN in Nigeria, and for bank payouts, Western Union to a Nigerian bank account.

Fees and rate

Western Union says on its Canada page that it "makes money from currency exchange" and that fees and rates change without notice; the quote depends on how you pay and how your recipient receives. Whatever channel Ghana offers, compare the naira received, not the fee alone. Western Union fees from Ghana covers the charges and how to compare them with the mid-market rate.

If the app does not work for Ghana

  • Use a Western Union agent in Ghana; see Western Union agents in Ghana.
  • Use a bank that offers PAPSS to a Nigerian naira account.
  • Use a licensed app that accepts MoMo funding and pays Nigerian accounts.

Starting online and paying at an agent

In countries where the Western Union app lets you start a transfer and finish it in store, you enter the recipient's details on your phone and pay at an agent with a reference. That cuts typing errors at the counter. If Ghana offers this, make sure the receiver's name matches their ID exactly, because a mismatch is one of the most common reasons a cash collection in Nigeria is refused.

What to have ready

  • Your own valid ID, which the agent or app will check.
  • Your relative's full name as on their ID, and their phone number.
  • For a bank payout, their 10-digit account number and bank (see which details to use).

Safety points

  • Download the app only from the official app store listing.
  • Never share the MTCN with anyone except the person collecting.
  • Do not send to someone you have only met online; Western Union transfers for cash pick-up are hard to reverse once collected.

Where Pryme fits

For family receiving larger sums, a Pryme account gives naira account details that bank payouts can reach, avoiding the cash cap (multicurrency account).

Questions people ask

Does the Western Union app work in Ghana?

We could not confirm it from a Western Union page. Open the app with Ghana set as your country to see what it offers.

Can I send from Ghana to a Nigerian bank account with Western Union?

Western Union pays Nigerian bank accounts; whether you can start that from Ghana online or only at an agent depends on what Western Union offers in Ghana.

What does my relative need to collect Western Union cash in Nigeria?

The MTCN, expected amount, your name and country, proof of age and valid ID such as a passport, driver's licence, voter's card, national ID or BVN.

Is there a limit on Western Union cash in Nigeria?

Under the CBN's 2026 FX manual as reported, cash over the counter is capped at the naira equivalent of US$200.
