Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Spain

Can I make voluntary RSA contributions from Spain?

PenCom's 2025 guidelines let Nigerians abroad pay dollar contributions into an RSA. Who qualifies, how money is sent from Spain and the withdrawal rules.

The short answer

Yes. PenCom's Guidelines on Foreign Currency Pension Contributions (September 2025) let Nigerians living and working abroad make voluntary US dollar contributions to a Retirement Savings Account, sent from a Non-Resident Nigerian Ordinary Account to the PFA's foreign-currency collection account. You need your NIN, a valid international passport and BVN, and an existing RSA holder who moved to Spain keeps the RSA by updating its documents.

Many Nigerians in Spain left behind an RSA from a job at home and assume it is frozen. It is not, and since 2025 there is also a dollar route for people who want to keep saving into the Nigerian pension system while earning abroad. The rules below come from PenCom's own guidelines; the operational detail (forms, account numbers, cut-off times) comes from your Pension Fund Administrator (PFA).

Who can contribute from abroad

Section 2.1 of the guidelines makes the scheme open to Nigerians living and working abroad, and to people in Nigeria paid in foreign currency by foreign or international organisations. Contributions are voluntary. Section 5.1(k) adds that an RSA holder who relocates abroad "can retain his RSA" by updating it with the required documents.

RequirementWhat the guidelines say
DocumentsNIN, valid international passport, next of kin and beneficiary name, email, address and phone (s.3.0)
Identity checksBiometrics matched with NIBSS and NIMC records; BVN and NIN
CurrencyUS dollars only, invested in a Foreign Currency Dollar Fund
How you payFrom a Non-Resident Nigerian Ordinary Account (NRNOA) to the PFA's foreign-currency collection account at its custodian, quoting your PIN
FrequencyDaily, weekly or monthly
Bank chargesThe collecting bank may not charge fees on the contribution

If you have no NIN or BVN yet, sort those first: NIN registration in Spain and a BVN from Spain.

How the money is split and when you can reach it

  • Each contribution is split 60% into a contingent portion and 40% into a retirement portion (s.5.1(c)).
  • Money must stay at least six months before any withdrawal (s.5.1(d)).
  • Temporary access to the contingent portion is allowed at most twice a year, with two working days' notice (s.10.5).
  • Retirement benefits are available from age 50, or earlier on health grounds (s.10.4.1).
  • Benefits are paid in dollars, as a lump sum or programmed withdrawal; naira is available on request.
  • Contributions are not taxed; income on them is taxable if withdrawn within five years.

Worked example. You send $200 a month for 12 months: $2,400 in total. Under the 60/40 split, $1,440 sits in the contingent portion you may draw on (no more than twice a year, after six months) and $960 is locked for retirement. Investment returns are added on top and are not shown here.

What about naira top-ups to an existing RSA?

The September 2025 guidelines deal with dollar contributions. If you would rather top up your existing naira RSA, ask your PFA whether it accepts voluntary naira contributions from a customer abroad, which account to pay into and what reference to use. Get the answer in writing, and keep a record of every payment.

Your RSA record may also need updating before anything else. PenCom launched an online data recapture platform in February 2026 for RSAs registered before 1 July 2019: you log in with your PFA details, RSA PIN, NIN and email, upload documents, take a live facial image and submit within 30 days, with a review in about five days (Vanguard, March 2026). The recapture uses a phone or computer with a camera, which helps if you are in Spain. Background on the system itself: how the RSA pension system works.

Steps from Spain

  1. Find your RSA PIN and PFA. If you cannot, ask your old employer's HR or your PFA.
  2. Complete data recapture if your RSA predates July 2019.
  3. Ask your PFA for its foreign-currency contribution form and the custodian collection account details.
  4. Open or use a Non-Resident Nigerian Ordinary Account, as the guidelines require that source.
  5. Send dollars from it to the collection account, quoting your RSA PIN.
  6. Check your next statement shows the 60/40 split.

Things to weigh

An RSA is long-term money in a Nigerian scheme. Compare it with what you could put into a Spanish pension plan, and think about where you expect to retire. If you might return to Nigeria, a dollar RSA keeps savings in a currency that does not lose value against the naira. If you will stay in Spain, ask a Spanish adviser how withdrawals would be taxed there; this is information, not advice. See also accessing an RSA while living in Spain.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account opened from Spain holds dollars as well as euros and naira, so you can convert euros to dollars with Swap, seeing the rate and fee before you approve, ahead of moving money into the account the guidelines require. Your Personal Assistant can remind you of a monthly contribution date; nothing moves without your approval.

Questions people ask

Can I pay into my RSA from Spain?

Yes. PenCom's September 2025 guidelines allow voluntary US dollar contributions from Nigerians abroad, sent from an NRNOA to the PFA's collection account.

What happens to my RSA when I relocate abroad?

You keep it. The guidelines say you retain the RSA by updating it with your NIN, passport and next-of-kin details.

Can I withdraw my dollar RSA contributions?

Partly: 60% goes to a contingent portion you can access at most twice a year after six months; 40% is held for retirement from age 50.

Do I need a BVN for a foreign currency RSA?

Yes. The guidelines require BVN and NIN, with biometrics matched against NIBSS and NIMC records.
