Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Codes & registration

Ventures, Enterprises, Ltd, Plc: what each suffix means

Which name endings mean a registered company and which are just words in a business name, what CAMA 2020 says, and what each tells a customer or bank.

The short answer

"Ltd", "Plc", "Ltd/Gte" and "LLP" are legal endings that only incorporated companies and limited liability partnerships may use under CAMA 2020. "Ventures", "Enterprises", "Global" or "Concepts" have no legal meaning: they are words typically found in registered business names, where the owner is personally liable. The ending tells a customer or bank who carries the debt.

Section 29 of the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020 fixes how company names end, and allows abbreviations:

EndingAbbreviationWhat it isOwners' liability
LimitedLtdPrivate company limited by sharesLimited to unpaid amount on shares
Public Limited CompanyPLCPublic company limited by sharesLimited to unpaid amount on shares
Limited by GuaranteeLtd/GteCompany limited by guarantee, often a non-profitLimited to the amount guaranteed
UnlimitedUltdUnlimited companyUnlimited
Limited Liability PartnershipLLPLLP under Part C (s.757)Limited, with exceptions in the Act
Limited PartnershipLPLimited partnership under Part DGeneral partners unlimited; limited partners up to their contribution

Using these endings without being registered as that kind of entity is penalised: section 739 for "Limited", "Public Limited Company", "Limited by Guarantee" and "Unlimited"; section 759 for "LLP"; section 804 for "LP". Penalties accrue for each day the name is used.

"Ventures", "Enterprises", "Global", "Concepts", "Resources", "Integrated Services", "Nigeria" and the like are not legal suffixes. They are part of a chosen name. They are most often seen on business names registered under Part E of CAMA 2020, because a business name cannot end in "Ltd". A company could also include them, as in "Bright Ventures Ltd", but then it is the "Ltd" that matters.

Section 814 requires anyone trading under a name other than their own true name to register it as a business name. So "Kemi Bello Enterprises" must be registered, within 28 days of starting to trade under it (section 815), but the word "Enterprises" adds no protection. The owner, Kemi Bello, is personally liable for the business's debts.

What each ending tells a customer or bank

  • Ltd: you are dealing with a separate legal person. Claims go against the company. Expect an RC number. Directors, shareholders and charges can be checked on CAC records.
  • Plc: a public company, which may offer shares to the public (a private company may not invite the public to subscribe, section 22(5)). Listed companies are a subset of Plcs; not every Plc is listed.
  • Ltd/Gte: usually a non-profit or membership body. No shareholders take dividends.
  • Ventures, Enterprises and similar with no Ltd: a business name with a BN number, or an unregistered trading name. The proprietor is the counterparty.
  • Incorporated trustees: churches, mosques, associations and foundations registered under Part F; they hold property as a corporate body.

None of the trading words is good or bad in itself. Plenty of solid businesses trade as "Enterprises", and some weak ones carry "Ltd". The ending tells you the legal structure, not the quality of the business.

For banks, the ending decides which account-opening pack applies: company documents and board resolutions for an Ltd, proprietor documents for a business name. Read RC vs BN numbers for how the registration number lines up with the ending.

Ending vs registration number

The ending and the registration number should agree. A name ending "Ltd" or "PLC" goes with an RC number; a name like "Kemi Bello Enterprises" with a BN number. When the two point in different directions, trust the register over the letterhead. The free CAC public search shows the registration type next to the name, so the check takes a minute. Changing the ending later is not cosmetic: moving from "Enterprises" to "Ltd" means incorporating a new company and moving the business into it, while changing a registered name keeps the same entity and costs ₦10,000 for a business name or small company under the May 2025 schedule.

Red flags

  • An invoice says "Ltd" but the CAC search shows a BN number. That is the use section 739 penalises; ask why before paying.
  • A "Plc" that cannot show a public company registration.
  • Payment instructions to a personal account for a company, or to an account in a different name.
  • A name very close to a well-known company with "Ventures" added. Check the RC number, not the logo.

Check any name for free on CAC: see how to search the CAC register.

Choosing your own name

  • Need limited liability or plan to bring in investors? Register a company and use "Ltd".
  • Sole trader keeping things simple? A business name, perhaps with "Ventures" or "Enterprises" to make it distinct, is cheaper: ₦1,000 to reserve and ₦20,000 to register under the CAC fee schedule gazetted on 29 May 2025, against ₦1,000 plus ₦10,000 per ₦1 million of share capital for a small company.
  • Some words are restricted and cost ₦5,000 to reserve instead of ₦1,000 (same schedule). Avoid words that suggest government links or regulated activities unless you hold the approval.
  • Upgrading later? See converting a business name to a limited company and business name or limited company.

Where Pryme fits

Whatever your ending, a Pryme Business Account is opened in the registered name, and bank-transfer checkout (free) shows customers that name when they pay.

Questions people ask

What is the difference between Ventures and Ltd?

"Ltd" means a registered company with limited liability. "Ventures" is just a word in a name, usually a business name whose owner is personally liable.

Can a business name end with Ltd in Nigeria?

No. Section 739 of CAMA 2020 penalises using "Limited" or "Ltd" unless the business is incorporated as a company.

What does Plc mean in Nigeria?

Public Limited Company: a company limited by shares that may offer shares to the public. Not every Plc is listed on an exchange.

What does Ltd/Gte mean?

Limited by Guarantee: a company whose members guarantee a set amount instead of holding shares, typically used by non-profits.
