Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Using verifiable invoices with Nigerian suppliers

Why supplier documents matter at the US border and in disputes, what to check on a Nigerian invoice, and how verifiable receipts and statements help.

The short answer

A verifiable document is one that anyone you share it with can check is genuine and unaltered. Through Pryme's partnership with VerifyDoc.ai, any Pryme customer can generate a regular or a verifiable receipt or statement, which gives a US importer a payment record that a broker, auditor, lender or arbitrator can confirm. It does not prove the supplier's own invoice is honest, so pair it with checks on the supplier and the goods.

Why supplier documents carry so much weight

For a US importer buying from Nigeria, a handful of documents do most of the work. The commercial invoice is the basis of the customs entry and the duty you pay. The packing list is what CBP and the FDA compare with what is in the container. Proof of payment is what you rely on if goods are short, late or refused. And under the basic importation bond in 19 CFR 113.62, the importer agrees to furnish documents CBP asks for.

When those documents are wrong, the cost falls on the importer: duty paid on the wrong value, holds while descriptions are queried, or a dispute you cannot win because you cannot prove what you paid.

What can go wrong with supplier paperwork

  • Altered invoices. Quantities, prices or bank details changed after the supplier issued the document.
  • Bank detail fraud. A message, apparently from the supplier, asks you to pay a new account. Our Nigeria library explains how supplier bank detail fraud works.
  • Invoices that do not match the goods. Vague descriptions such as "foodstuff" make classification and FDA review harder.
  • Payment proofs that cannot be checked. A screenshot of a transfer proves little if a dispute starts.

What a verifiable receipt or statement does

Pryme partners with VerifyDoc.ai. Any Pryme customer can generate either a regular or a verifiable receipt or statement from their account. Anyone who receives a verifiable one can check that it is genuine and has not been altered since it was issued. For an importer that means:

  • a payment record for each supplier payment that your customs broker, accountant or auditor can confirm;
  • a statement you can give a mediator, arbitrator or court in a dispute, without arguments over whether a PDF was edited;
  • cleaner records for your own books when US sales in dollars meet Nigerian costs in naira.

What it does not do: it does not verify the supplier's invoice, the supplier's identity or the quality of the goods. It proves your side of the transaction. The supplier's side needs separate checks.

Checks to run on a Nigerian supplier's documents

  1. Confirm the company exists and the name on the invoice matches its registration. See how to verify a Nigerian company.
  2. Check that the account name on the bank details matches the company name, and confirm any change of bank details by a call to a number you already hold.
  3. Compare the proforma, final invoice and packing list line by line: descriptions, quantities, unit prices, totals.
  4. For food, confirm the producer named on the invoice is the FDA-registered facility; prior notice asks for the manufacturer.
  5. Keep one file per shipment: purchase order, invoices, packing list, bill of lading or air waybill, payment records and any FDA or CBP notices.

Paying against documents

For larger orders, how you pay affects how much the documents protect you. The ITA's Trade Finance Guide explains that a letter of credit is a bank's commitment to pay against documents that comply with its terms, while in a documentary collection banks act as facilitators and do not verify documents. The guide treats cash in advance as the least risky term for the exporter and open account as the riskiest; for the importer the order is reversed. A verifiable payment record does not replace these instruments; it makes the payment step provable whichever you use. For deposits and milestones, see safer ways to pay a Nigerian supplier.

Example: a disputed deposit

Example only. A Houston importer pays a Lagos supplier a ₦4,000,000 deposit for crayfish and dried pepper. Three weeks later the supplier says only ₦3,000,000 arrived and asks for the rest before shipping. A screenshot of the transfer can be argued over. A verifiable receipt for the payment, which the supplier can check for themselves, shows the amount, date and payee as recorded, and the conversation moves on to what happened to the money on the supplier's side.

A simple routine per shipment

  1. Get the proforma and check the supplier.
  2. Pay the deposit and generate a verifiable receipt for it.
  3. Before the balance, compare the final invoice and packing list with the proforma.
  4. Pay the balance and generate a verifiable receipt.
  5. Give your broker the invoice and packing list, and keep the receipts in the shipment file.
  6. At month end, generate a verifiable statement for your accountant.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Business Account, opened from the US, holds USD and NGN with local details for each, and Swap shows the rate and fee before you approve. Verifiable receipts and statements come from the same account. The Finance agent can prepare reconciliations for a person to approve.

Questions people ask

What is a verifiable receipt?

A receipt that anyone you share it with can check is genuine and unaltered. Pryme customers can generate one through Pryme's partnership with VerifyDoc.ai.

Does a verifiable receipt prove my Nigerian supplier is genuine?

No. It proves your payment record. Check the supplier's registration and bank details separately.

Will US customs accept a verifiable receipt?

Customs entries are based on the commercial invoice and other entry documents. A verifiable receipt supports your records if CBP or an auditor asks how much you paid.

How do I stop supplier bank detail fraud?

Confirm any change of bank details by calling a number you already hold, and check the account name matches the company.
