Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2018OjirehPrime Card

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

Unity Bank loans: products and who qualifies

How Unity Bank loans work for salary earners and small businesses, what we could not confirm in October 2026, and what to check on the bank's own channels.

The short answer

Unity Bank lends to its own account holders, mainly people with salary or regular business income paid into Unity Bank, and sets each offer from that account history and a credit check. We could not confirm Unity Bank's current loan products, limits or rates on an official page in October 2026, and its reported merger with Providus Bank may change product names, so check the bank's own app or branch for current terms.

People searching for Unity Bank loans in 2026 face an extra layer of uncertainty: Unity Bank has been reported to be combining with Providus Bank under the ProvidusUnity name, and product names and channels may be changing. We could not confirm the details on an official page, so this guide does not depend on them. It explains the kinds of loan a Nigerian commercial bank like Unity offers, how such banks decide who qualifies, how to read an offer, and how to make sure you are dealing with the real bank during a period of change.

What we could and could not confirm

  • We did not find Unity Bank by name on the FCCPC's lists of digital money lenders in October 2026. Banks are licensed by the CBN; the FCCPC's consumer rules still cover disclosure and recovery.
  • We could not open an official Unity Bank loan page with current eligibility rules, limits or rates, so we state none.
  • The merger with Providus Bank, described in reports as ProvidusUnity, is not something we confirmed on an official page. If it has completed, loans may now be offered under the combined bank's name.

Loan types a bank like Unity typically offers

Nigerian commercial banks tend to offer the same broad families of credit. Sterling Bank's published list is a useful map: payroll personal loans, vehicle and asset finance, home finance and a small-business facility. Expect Unity's offering, or the merged bank's, to fall into similar groups:

Salary-backed personal loan
For employees whose salary is paid into the bank; repaid from salary over months.
Short salary advance
A smaller amount until your next payday.
Asset finance
For a car or equipment, with the asset as security and an equity contribution.
SME or trader loan
For businesses banking with the bank, judged on turnover and how long the business has run.

Who usually qualifies

Banks rarely lend to someone they have no history with. Published criteria at other banks show the kind of tests to expect. Stanbic IBTC asks for six months with its current or salary account and a minimum monthly income of ₦20,000. Sterling's small-business facility asks that a business be CAC-registered and operating for three years, with average monthly turnover of at least ₦2m. Unity's own figures will differ, but the questions are similar:

  1. Is your salary or business income paid into the bank, and for how long?
  2. Does the repayment fit within a fair share of your net income?
  3. What do credit bureaus say about your past loans?
  4. For a business: is it registered, how long has it traded, and is there collateral for larger amounts?

Reading the cost: a worked example

Labelled example only, not a Unity Bank price. A trader borrows ₦2,500,000 over 9 months at an example 3% a month on a reducing balance with equal instalments. The monthly repayment is about ₦321,085 and total interest about ₦389,762. The same 3% a month charged flat would be ₦75,000 a month, or ₦675,000 in interest. The method changes the cost by about ₦285,000, so always ask which applies.

Add any management fee, insurance or legal fees to the interest to get the full cost of credit. For third-party reports on pricing, see Unity Bank loan interest rate.

How a bank loan differs from a loan app

Bank loan (Unity or merged bank)Loan app
LenderCBN-licensed bankCompany with FCCPC approval
Who can borrowExisting account holdersAnyone with BVN and a bank account
PaperworkStatements, employer or business documentsApp sign-up and permissions
Amounts and tenorLarger, over months or yearsSmaller, often weeks
RepaymentDeduction from your accountCard debit or transfer

A loan app may suit a small, short gap if you cannot get a bank offer, but the total cost is usually higher; see overdraft versus loan app.

What to check first

  • The bank's current name and the official app or USSD code, taken from its website, not from a message.
  • The amount, rate and method, fees, tenor and repayment dates.
  • If you already have a Unity loan, whether your repayment account or schedule changes after the merger. Ask the bank in writing.
  • Your complaint route: the bank first, then the CBN's consumer protection process.

Our guide to getting a Unity Bank loan covers the application route, and the bank complaint letter template helps if something goes wrong.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme is a technology company, not a bank. Loans on Spaces are lent by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank and can be spent only with Spaces merchants; a limit may be offered from how you run your account and you accept the full agreement before drawing. Businesses can open a Pryme Business Account and, in supported sectors, join Spaces.

Questions people ask

Does Unity Bank give loans to salary earners?

Banks like Unity lend mainly to customers whose salary is paid into them. We could not confirm Unity's current product terms in October 2026; check the bank's app or branch.

Has Unity Bank merged with Providus Bank?

The merger has been reported under the ProvidusUnity name, but we did not confirm it on an official page. Check the bank's website for current names and channels.

Will my Unity Bank loan change after the merger?

Your agreement stays in force unless the bank tells you otherwise. Ask the bank in writing whether your repayment account or schedule changes.

What do I need to get a loan from Unity Bank?

Expect to need an account with salary or business income paid in, a clean credit record and, for larger loans, documents or collateral. The bank's offer sets the exact terms.
