Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

How to get a UBA POS (UBA Moni) and what it costs

How to become a UBA Moni agent: who can apply, the documents, the forms, the free terminal, customer fees, agent commissions and settlement timing.

The short answer

UBA Moni is UBA's agency banking programme. Anyone with a verifiable business location, a CAC-registered business account and a valid ID can apply through the online Register form on UBA's site or by submitting the Agent Onboarding Form at a branch. UBA says "our terminals are free of charge"; agents earn per-transaction commission (for example ₦59 on a deposit) that UBA says is paid immediately, with transactions settled instantly.

What UBA Moni is

UBA Moni lets a shop owner or business offer basic banking services on UBA's behalf: cash deposits and withdrawals, transfers, bill payments, account opening and BVN enrolment. Customers get banking close to home; the agent earns a commission on each transaction. It is UBA's answer to the agent networks that now line most Nigerian streets. You do not become a bank: you act as an agent of UBA under its rules and the CBN's agent banking framework.

Who can apply and what you need

UBA's UBA Moni page, checked in October 2026, says "anyone with a verifiable business location and the necessary documentation can apply". The listed requirements are:

  • a verifiable business location;
  • a business account registered with CAC;
  • a valid means of identification.

You do not need to hold a UBA account already. During onboarding UBA opens two agent accounts for you: a Wallet Transaction Account for daily operations and float, and a Wallet Commission Account into which commissions are paid. The page does not state a minimum working capital or a caution deposit; ask the branch before you commit, because your float is what limits how much cash you can pay out on a busy day.

How to apply

  1. Check the existing agent location list on the UBA Moni page to see how many agents already serve your area.
  2. Fill in the online "Register" form with your name, email, phone, state, LGA, whether you have a registered business, and your preferred branch. UBA says it will then contact you.
  3. Or download the Agent Onboarding Form from the same page, complete it, and submit it at your nearest UBA branch.
  4. Complete onboarding: account opening for the wallet and commission accounts, verification of your location and documents, and training on the terminal.
  5. Receive the terminal and fund your float.

What it costs and what you earn

UBA states that its terminals are free of charge. Customers pay transaction fees at the agent, and the agent earns a commission. The figures on UBA's page in October 2026:

TransactionCustomer feeAgent commission
Cash deposit into UBA₦100₦59
Withdrawal with a UBA card (POS)₦100₦59
Intrabank transfer₦100₦59
Withdrawal with another bank's card₦100₦49
Interbank transfer, ₦1 to ₦5,000₦50₦23
Interbank transfer, ₦5,001 to ₦50,000₦100₦56
Interbank transfer, ₦50,001 and above₦150₦88
Pay by transfer₦100₦56
Account openingFree to customer₦150 to ₦400 by funding band

Worked example (illustrative)

Example: in a day an agent handles 20 deposits, 30 UBA-card withdrawals, 15 other-bank card withdrawals and 10 interbank transfers between ₦5,001 and ₦50,000. Commission: 20 × ₦59 = ₦1,180; 30 × ₦59 = ₦1,770; 15 × ₦49 = ₦735; 10 × ₦56 = ₦560. Total ₦4,245 for the day. Over 26 trading days that is ₦110,370 a month before rent, staff, data and power. UBA's page says agents can earn "over 1 Million Naira every year" but gives no basis; your volume decides the outcome.

Settlement and limits

UBA's FAQ on the page says transactions settle instantly and commissions are paid immediately after each transaction. The page also lists limits, for example deposits up to ₦500,000 per transaction and ₦5,000,000 a day, and POS withdrawals up to ₦100,000 per transaction and ₦1,200,000 a day. Those limits cap your daily cash business, so plan float around them.

What to check first

  • The rules on what you may charge. Agents should not add their own surcharges on top of the published fees without checking UBA's terms.
  • Who replaces a faulty or stolen terminal, and at what cost.
  • Dispute handling: how you log a failed withdrawal where the customer was debited. See failed ATM and POS refund timelines.
  • Fraud controls: POS fraud in Nigeria covers the scams agents face.
  • How the terms compare with other networks; read POS vs bank transfer for how customers choose.

Running the business well

The terminal is free, but the business is not. Your float decides how many withdrawals you can pay out; running out of cash at 5pm on a Friday loses customers to the agent next door. Many agents keep a cash book alongside the terminal reports so they can reconcile each day, and they keep the Wallet Commission Account separate from personal spending so they can see what the business earns. Display the customer fees clearly; customers trust agents who charge what the bank publishes.

Security matters as much as location. Keep the terminal in sight, never let a customer take it out of the shop, and be wary of anyone offering to "upgrade" or "reconfigure" the device. Report a missing terminal to UBA immediately.

Where Pryme fits

If your shop sells goods rather than cash services, taking bank transfers can suit you better than a terminal. Pryme Business bank-transfer checkout is free, and virtual accounts help match payments to customers.

Questions people ask
