Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

UAE personal loan: do you need a salary transfer letter?

UAE banks offer salary-transfer and non-salary-transfer personal loans. How they differ, the 50% debt burden cap, and the documents banks usually ask for.

The short answer

Not always. UAE banks offer two kinds of personal loan: salary-transfer loans, where your employer pays your salary into the lending bank, usually confirmed by a salary transfer letter, and non-salary-transfer loans, where it does not. Salary-transfer loans are generally easier to get and priced lower because the bank collects repayments at source; non-salary-transfer loans tend to need a higher salary or an approved employer. Either way, Central Bank rules cap total monthly debt repayments at 50% of income.

A personal loan in the UAE is often the quickest way to cover a large one-off cost: a family emergency in Nigeria, school fees, a deposit on a flat. Before you apply, it helps to know which type of loan you are asking for, because the documents, the price and what happens if you change jobs all depend on it.

The two types of loan

Salary-transfer loanNon-salary-transfer loan
Where your salary goesInto the lending bankAnother bank
Key documentSalary transfer letter from your employer, addressed to the bankSalary certificate and statements from the bank that receives your salary
How repayment is collectedFrom your salary as it arrivesBy instruction or cheque from your other account
What banks usually look forEmployment and salary at the level the bank setsOften a higher salary or an employer on the bank's approved list
If you change jobsThe bank will expect the new salary to move to it, or may ask for settlement; read the termsLess tied to the employer, but the bank still needs to see income

The salary transfer letter is a letter from your employer, on its letterhead, confirming that your salary will be paid into the lending bank and, in many cases, that end-of-service dues will be paid there too, until the loan is cleared. Banks have their own templates; ask for the bank's wording before you ask HR.

The 50% cap

StashAway's October 2026 guide notes that Central Bank of the UAE rules cap your total monthly debt repayments at 50% of your income. That includes cards, car loans and any other loans the bank can see on your Al Etihad Credit Bureau (AECB) report.

A worked example

Example only. Folake earns AED 15,000 a month. Her cap on total repayments is AED 7,500 (50% of 15,000). She pays AED 1,500 a month on a car loan and the bank counts AED 1,000 a month for her credit card. Her remaining room is 7,500 minus 2,500, so AED 5,000 a month. If a bank offers a loan whose monthly instalment is AED 4,200, it fits; one at AED 5,600 would not.

Check the total cost, not just the instalment. Multiply the instalment by the number of months and add any processing fee shown in the offer. A 36-month loan at AED 4,200 a month repays 36 × 4,200 = AED 151,200 in instalments; the difference between that and the amount borrowed is the cost of the loan. The bank states the rate as a flat rate or a reducing-balance rate, which give different total costs for the same headline number; ask for the annual percentage rate and the total repayable in writing.

Documents banks usually ask for

  • passport with residence visa, and Emirates ID;
  • salary certificate, and a salary transfer letter for a salary-transfer loan;
  • recent bank statements, typically three to six months, from the account that receives your salary;
  • proof of address, such as a tenancy contract;
  • for non-salary-transfer loans, sometimes a security cheque. Since 2022, a cheque that bounces for lack of funds is a civil matter, not a crime, but the bank can still enforce it.

Each bank sets its own list; the application screen or relationship manager will tell you exactly what it needs.

Before you sign

  1. Check your AECB report for errors first: see checking your AECB credit report.
  2. Compare the offer's total repayable and fees, not the monthly figure alone.
  3. Read what happens if you lose your job or change employer, and whether gratuity is assigned to the bank.
  4. Ask about early settlement fees, in case you leave the UAE early.
  5. Accept only the amount you need. A limit you are offered is not one you have to take.

Borrowing for costs in Nigeria

Many Nigerians take a UAE loan to pay for something at home. Think about the currency: you repay in dirhams, but the money is spent in naira. If you convert the loan to naira in one go and the cost at home is later, you carry the exchange-rate risk in between. Converting only when each bill is due, or paying the provider directly, keeps that risk smaller.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme does not lend in the UAE. If the loan is to pay for something in Nigeria, such as school fees or a family bill, a Pryme account lets you hold the funds and send to Nigerian accounts, with the rate and the fee shown before you approve. Naira you hold with Pryme sits with a licensed Nigerian microfinance bank, regulated by the CBN and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit; outside Nigeria, Pryme's activities are carried out through regulated partners.

Questions people ask

Can I get a personal loan in UAE without salary transfer?

Yes, many banks offer non-salary-transfer loans, but they usually look for a higher salary or an approved employer and may price the loan higher.

What is a salary transfer letter?

A letter from your employer to the bank confirming your salary will be paid into that bank until the loan is repaid. Banks often have their own template.

How much personal loan can I get in UAE?

It depends on your salary and existing debts. Central Bank rules cap total monthly repayments at 50% of income, which limits the instalment you can take on.

What happens to my loan if I lose my job in UAE?

Read your loan terms. For salary-transfer loans the bank may expect your gratuity to go towards the balance; talk to it early about a plan.
