Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

UAE advertiser permit: paid posts for Nigerian brands

Since 1 February 2026 creators advertising from the UAE need a Media Council Advertiser Permit, whether the brand is Emirati or Nigerian.

The short answer

Yes, as reported by Gulf News: the UAE Media Council's Advertiser Permit has been mandatory since 1 February 2026 for anyone promoting products, services or content from within the UAE, paid or unpaid, and the rule does not depend on where the brand is based. Residents and citizens apply through the Media Council, need a trade licence for electronic media, and get the permit free for the first three years; it lasts one year and is renewable.

Nigerian brands increasingly book creators who live in Dubai or Abu Dhabi: a fashion label wants a reel, a fintech wants a launch post, a drinks company wants a story set before December travel. The money and the audience may both be in Nigeria, but if you make and publish the post from the UAE, UAE media law applies to you. Here is what the permit requires, as reported, and how it fits alongside Nigeria's own advertising rules.

What the rule says

Gulf News, in a report updated on 1 February 2026 citing the UAE Media Council, set out the position under the federal media law (No. 55 of 2023) and Cabinet Resolution No. 42 of 2025:

  • The Advertiser Permit had to be obtained by 1 February 2026.
  • It covers all advertisers operating in the UAE and content creators visiting the UAE, for paid and unpaid promotion of products, services or content.
  • Stated exemptions are narrow: personal accounts promoting the holder's own products or services, and under-18s creating educational, cultural, sports or awareness content.
  • Citizens and residents need a valid trade licence for electronic media, good conduct and no prior media violations, and must normally be 18 or over.
  • Brands and organisations must check that any advertiser they work with holds a valid permit.

The report does not say the rule changes when the brand paying you is abroad. The test is that you are advertising from within the UAE. We could not open the Media Council's own page for this guide, so confirm the current conditions there before you sign a campaign.

Residents and visitors

Residents and citizensVisitors
How to applyUAE Media Council websiteThrough an accredited UAE advertising or talent agency
Pre-conditionTrade licence for electronic mediaRegistration with a licensed agency

For a freelancer this links back to the licence you hold. A freelance permit or free-zone licence whose activity does not cover electronic media or advertising may not satisfy the trade-licence condition. Check your licence's activity list with your free zone, and add the activity if needed, before applying.

Fines and obligations

The same report lists penalties under the 2025 Cabinet Resolution. Operating without a licence carries a fine of AED 10,000 for a first offence and AED 40,000 for a repeat. Content breaches range from AED 5,000 to AED 1,000,000 depending on severity; false or misleading information AED 5,000 to AED 10,000; an expired licence AED 150 a day, capped at AED 3,000. Permits can be suspended or cancelled.

Holders must follow the Council's content standards, display the permit number on their social media profiles, post adverts only through registered accounts, and get prior approval for certain specialised adverts.

The Nigerian side of the same post

The UAE permit does not replace Nigerian rules. In December 2022 the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) said that under the ARCON Act 2022 all advertisements on social media and digital platforms need pre-exposure approval, naming influencers, bloggers, vloggers and skit makers. ARCON did not publish a fee or timeline in that statement. For a campaign aimed at Nigerians, agree in writing who obtains ARCON approval; normally the brand or its agency does, not the creator.

Expect withholding tax too. A Nigerian company paying a non-resident for professional services deducts 10% under the 2024 withholding regulations, per PwC's summary; how a brand classifies influencer work can change the rate, so ask before invoicing. More in Nigerian WHT on a UAE freelancer's invoice.

What to check first

  1. Does your freelance permit or licence include an electronic media or advertising activity?
  2. Have you applied for, and received, the Advertiser Permit, and is the number on your profiles?
  3. Does the brief need specialised prior approval in the UAE (some product categories do, per the report)?
  4. Has the Nigerian brand or agency confirmed ARCON pre-exposure approval for the content?
  5. Does the contract state the fee, currency, withholding tax, usage period and payment date?

Write the permit into the deal itself. A short clause stating that you hold a valid UAE Advertiser Permit (with its number), that the brand is responsible for Nigerian regulatory approvals, and that the publication date moves if an approval is late, protects both sides. Add the usage period, the platforms covered, how many revision rounds are included and whether the brand may run your content as paid adverts from its own account, which is a separate use you can price.

If a Nigerian brand asks you to post without a permit because "the client is not in the UAE", the reported rule gives no such exemption. Say no in writing and keep the email.

Where Pryme fits

Nigerian brands usually prefer to pay in naira. A Pryme Business Account opened from the UAE gives you naira account details as well as dollars, pounds and euros, and invoicing lets you bill the brand with the withholding tax line shown. Swap converts only when you choose, with the rate and fee shown before you approve.

Questions people ask

Do I need a UAE advertiser permit if the brand is Nigerian?

As reported, yes, if you make and publish the advert from within the UAE. The rule covers advertisers operating in the UAE and does not exempt foreign brands.

Is the UAE advertiser permit free?

Gulf News reports it is free for citizens and residents for the first three years. Fees after that, and for visitors, were not stated.

What is the fine for advertising without a permit in the UAE?

AED 10,000 for a first offence and AED 40,000 for a repeat, according to the report citing Cabinet Resolution No. 42 of 2025.

Does a UAE permit cover Nigerian ARCON approval?

No. ARCON says social media adverts in Nigeria need its pre-exposure approval. Agree who obtains it; usually the brand or agency.
