Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Kingdom

TV licence refund when you leave the UK

Moving back to Nigeria or on to another country? Moving abroad is one reason to cancel your TV Licence, and you can claim up to two years after it expires.

The short answer

If you leave the UK and no longer need a TV Licence, you can cancel it and apply for a refund on the TV Licensing website, which lists moving abroad as one of the reasons. TV Licensing says the online refund form can be used up to two years after the licence's expiry date, and you may need to print it and send supporting evidence. Cancel any Direct Debit for the licence at the same time.

When you leave the UK, the TV Licence is one of the small payments that keeps running unless you stop it. For a family relocating to Lagos, to Canada or to Dubai, the remaining months on a £180 licence are worth claiming back. The process is online, it has a generous deadline, and it asks for some evidence.

Who can get a refund

GOV.UK's TV Licence page says you can cancel your licence or apply for a refund on the TV Licensing website. TV Licensing's cancellations and refunds page lists the situations it covers, and moving abroad is one of them. The others it lists include:

  • you are moving address
  • a TV Licence holder has died
  • you do not watch TV
  • you want to cancel only your current payment scheme
  • you have an extra licence at the same address

One point catches people out: cancelling only the payment scheme (a Direct Debit or TV Licensing payment card) is different from cancelling the licence. TV Licensing says that in that case you still need your licence. If you are leaving the UK, you want the licence cancelled, not just the payment plan.

The deadline

TV Licensing says you can apply using the online refund form up to two years after the expiry date of your licence. You do not have to do it in the last chaotic week before your flight. Many people do it from abroad a few months later, once the move has settled. It is still easier to do before you lose access to UK post and phone numbers.

How much you get back

The licence costs £180 for colour (£60.50 for black and white), according to GOV.UK as at April 2026. TV Licensing's refunds page that we opened in October 2026 does not set out how the refund is calculated, and we did not find an official page that explains the method. We therefore do not state a formula. The refund form and TV Licensing's FAQs explain how your amount is worked out; the decision is theirs.

Example only, to show why it is worth claiming. If you paid £180 for a year and left the UK four months into it, eight months is two thirds of the year, or £120 on a simple monthly split. The actual refund may differ depending on TV Licensing's rules and how you paid.

Working out the date your need ended

GOV.UK says a licence is needed to watch or record live TV on any channel or service, or to use BBC iPlayer. It is not needed for on-demand services such as Netflix, Disney Plus or Prime Video, or for YouTube and DVDs. So the date that matters is the last day anyone at the address watched live TV or used iPlayer under your licence, not the day you left the flat. If you packed the television a month before your flight and only used streaming apps after that, your need may have ended earlier than your move.

If someone else stays on at the address, such as a sibling or lodger with their own tenancy, GOV.UK notes that separate tenancies need their own licence. Do not cancel in a way that leaves a remaining household member watching live TV without cover. They can take out their own licence.

Steps

  1. Find your TV Licence number. It is on your licence, renewal letters and Direct Debit confirmations.
  2. Note the date you stopped watching live TV or using BBC iPlayer at the UK address. That is the date your need for the licence ended.
  3. Gather evidence of your move. TV Licensing says you may need to print the form and send supporting evidence; it does not list what it accepts, so keep what you have: a tenancy end notice, a final council tax bill, your flight booking, or a new tenancy abroad.
  4. Complete the online refund form on the TV Licensing site, choosing the reason that matches (moving abroad).
  5. Cancel any Direct Debit for the licence with your bank after you have cancelled the licence, so no further payment goes out.
  6. Keep a UK bank account open until the refund lands, or check with TV Licensing how it pays refunds to people abroad.

Before you go: the rest of the list

The TV Licence is a small item next to the bigger ones: council tax, energy, broadband contracts, and tax. For tax, a P85 may be needed if you leave during a job; see UK tax when returning to Nigeria. If you are not sure you need a licence in the first place, our guide do I need a TV Licence covers what counts as live TV.

Where Pryme fits

Refunds from UK bodies usually go to a UK account. A Pryme account holds GBP with UK local account details alongside naira, so a refund paid in pounds can stay in pounds until you choose to convert it with Swap, where the rate and fee are shown before you approve. See a currency plan for moving back.

Questions people ask

Can I get a TV Licence refund if I move abroad?

Yes, moving abroad is one of the reasons TV Licensing lists for cancelling and claiming a refund. You apply through its online refund form.

How long do I have to claim a TV Licence refund?

TV Licensing says you can apply up to two years after the expiry date of your licence.

What evidence do I need for a TV Licence refund?

TV Licensing says you may need to print the form and send supporting evidence but does not list what it accepts. Keep documents showing your move date.

Does cancelling my Direct Debit cancel my TV Licence?

No. Cancelling only the payment scheme leaves the licence in place. Cancel the licence through TV Licensing, then stop the Direct Debit.
