Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ireland

Tutoring Nigerian students online from Ireland

Before you teach Lagos students from Dublin: whether your stamp allows it, registering with Revenue, how parents can pay, and the tax on both sides.

The short answer

Check your immigration permission first: Stamp 2 and Stamp 1G holders may not run a business or be self-employed, while Stamp 4 holders can. If you can trade, register with Revenue and report the fees on Form 11; the NiDCOM-hosted diaspora guide says income for services physically rendered outside Nigeria is not taxable in Nigeria unless you are tax resident there. Parents will usually want to pay in naira, so you need a way to receive naira and convert it.

Nigerian families pay for extra lessons: WAEC and JAMB maths, IGCSE sciences, coding, music, piano. A teacher or postgraduate in Ireland can offer evening lessons at hours that suit families in Nigeria. The teaching is the easy part. The permission, tax and payment set-up need to be in place first.

Step one: does your stamp allow it?

Private tutoring for fees on your own account is self-employment. Immigration Service Delivery's stamps page, updated 5 June 2026, sets out the position:

StampRunning a business or self-employment
Stamp 2 (students)Casual work only (20 hours a week in term, 40 in holidays); must not engage in any other business or trade
Stamp 1G (graduates)Not permitted to operate a business or be self-employed
Stamp 1 (employment permits)No business, trade or profession unless specified in a letter of permission from ISD
Stamp 4Can establish and operate a business

Tutoring through an Irish tutoring company that employs you on payroll is a different arrangement from tutoring privately; if you hold Stamp 2, the hours still count towards your weekly limit. For the student position in more detail, see freelancing on Stamp 2.

Step two: the Irish tax set-up

Revenue says people who are resident and domiciled in Ireland are taxed on worldwide income, so lesson fees from Nigerian parents count even if they are paid into a Nigerian account. Register before you start: Revenue's Form TR1 is for individuals registering for Income Tax, VAT and other taxes, while those who only need Income Tax use eRegistration. Each year the fees go on Form 11; for the 2025 year Revenue's deadline is 31 October 2026, or 18 November 2026 if you pay and file on ROS. See Form 11 deadlines.

Step three: the Nigerian side

The NGEX diaspora tax guide hosted by NiDCOM says non-residents are taxed in Nigeria only on Nigerian-source income, and that income for services physically rendered outside Nigeria is not taxable in Nigeria unless you are a tax resident. A tutor teaching from Ireland would usually fall on the non-taxable side, but your own Nigerian tax residence decides it, so check it if you spend long periods at home.

Nigerian VAT is less settled. Analysis of the 2025 reforms by WTS Blackwoodstone says foreign providers of digital services to Nigerian consumers must register and remit VAT at 7.5%. Whether live online lessons count as a digital service is not answered in the sources we opened; if you teach many families, ask a Nigerian tax adviser. More in Nigerian VAT on services from Ireland.

Step four: how parents pay

Most parents will want to pay in naira by bank transfer. Buying euro to pay a tutor abroad is not a simple route for a Nigerian parent; personal travel allowances and tuition remittances under the CBN's FX rules are tied to travel and, for tuition, to payments to eligible institutions (Nairametrics, 4 June 2026), not private tutors. Practical options:

  • A naira account in your own name in Nigeria, which parents pay by domestic transfer.
  • Term or monthly invoices, paid in advance, so missed lessons are not unpaid lessons.
  • A written receipt for every payment; parents often need proof for family members who share the cost.
  • A clear price list in naira, reviewed each term, with a note of when you change it.
Example term fee
12 lessons at ₦25,000 each = ₦300,000
Example conversion
₦300,000 ÷ 1,750 (example rate) = €171.43 before fees

Records worth keeping

Keep a simple register for each student: the parent who pays, the lesson dates, the amounts invoiced and received, and the conversion if you change naira into euro. It supports your Form 11 entry, answers a parent who disputes a bill and shows the activity is a properly run business if your permission is ever reviewed. Agree with each family in writing how missed lessons, cancellations and price changes are handled, and record lessons only with the parent's consent.

Run your own numbers with a recent rate and a margin for movement, and review the naira price each term rather than each lesson.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account can be opened from Ireland and gives you local naira account details, so parents pay by ordinary transfer. Naira stays as naira until you swap it, with the rate and fee shown before you approve. You can send parents a verifiable receipt, through Pryme's partnership with VerifyDoc.ai, that anyone can check is genuine and unaltered.

Questions people ask

Can I tutor Nigerian students online on a student visa in Ireland?

Private tutoring for fees is self-employment. ISD says Stamp 2 holders must not engage in any other business or trade beyond casual work.

Do I pay Irish tax on tutoring fees paid in naira?

If you are resident and domiciled in Ireland, Revenue says you are taxed on worldwide income, so yes, they normally go on Form 11.

Is online tutoring from abroad taxed in Nigeria?

The NiDCOM-hosted guide says income for services physically rendered outside Nigeria is not taxable in Nigeria unless you are tax resident there.

How can Nigerian parents pay a tutor in Ireland?

Most simply by naira transfer to a naira account in your name. Buying euro to pay a private tutor abroad is not a route the CBN's tuition allowance covers.
