Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Weekly supplier payment runs in Nigeria when you are abroad

How to batch, approve and record a weekly supplier payment run for a Nigerian business from abroad, including withholding tax, stamp duty and records.

The short answer

Run Nigerian supplier payments once a week from a single list: the Lagos team prepares the batch from approved invoices, deducts withholding tax where it applies, and a second person, often you, approves in the bank. Each run should leave a file with invoices, WHT receipts issued to suppliers, bank confirmations and the ₦50 stamp duty on each transfer of ₦10,000 or more, which the sender now pays.

Paying suppliers whenever someone asks is how businesses run from abroad lose money: duplicated invoices, rushed approvals on a phone, and payments that skip the tax deduction. A fixed weekly run solves most of this. Suppliers learn when they will be paid, your team knows when to prepare, and you approve once, carefully, rather than ten times in a hurry.

The weekly cycle

  1. Monday: invoice cut-off. Only invoices received and approved by the budget holder by Monday enter that week's run.
  2. Tuesday: batch preparation. The accounts officer lists each invoice, supplier, bank details on file, gross amount, any withholding tax and net payment.
  3. Wednesday: review. The finance lead checks invoices against purchase orders or contracts and confirms no supplier's bank details have changed.
  4. Wednesday or Thursday: approval. You, or your delegated approver, approve the batch in the bank during your agreed approval window.
  5. Friday: records. Bank confirmations, WHT receipts and the batch list are filed together.

Urgent payments outside the run should need your direct approval and a written reason. If they become frequent, the cut-off is in the wrong place. For roles and limits, see approvals across time zones with a team in Nigeria.

Withholding tax in the run

Companies paying Nigerian suppliers usually have to deduct withholding tax (WHT) at source. PwC's highlights of the Deduction of Tax at Source (Withholding) Regulations 2024, effective 1 July 2024, set out the main rates for resident suppliers:

Payment typeResident supplier rate
Supply of goods (not by the manufacturer)2%
Other services2%
Commission, consultancy, technical, management and professional fees5%
Construction of roads, bridges, buildings, power plants2%
Rent10%
  • Goods manufactured by the supplier are exempt.
  • A small company need not deduct where the transaction is under ₦2 million and the supplier has a valid Tax ID.
  • A supplier without a Tax ID suffers twice the rate.
  • The deductor issues a WHT receipt to the supplier and remits to the NRS by the 21st of the following month (or to the state tax authority by the 30th, where it is the collecting authority).

These are the 2024 Regulations' rates; whether the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 has changed them was not confirmed in October 2026, so check with your adviser. The Nigeria library covers getting WHT credit notes right.

A worked example

Example only. A consultancy with a valid Tax ID invoices your Lagos company ₦2,500,000 for professional services and is not VAT-registered. WHT at 5% is ₦125,000. The run pays the supplier ₦2,375,000, and the company remits ₦125,000 to the NRS by the 21st of the following month and gives the supplier a WHT receipt. The bank also charges the sender ₦50 stamp duty on the transfer, plus its own fee and 7.5% VAT on that fee.

Bank charges and limits

From 1 January 2026, the ₦50 stamp duty on electronic transfers of ₦10,000 or more is charged to the sender, as Kuda's business help centre explains, with exemptions for transfers below ₦10,000, salary payments and own-account transfers. A run of 30 supplier payments therefore adds 30 stamp duty lines; post them separately from bank fees (see reconciling bank charges and stamp duty).

Check your daily limit before a large run. Proshare reported a CBN circular effective 1 July 2026 setting maximum instant transfer thresholds of ₦250 million for corporates, which customers can adjust within that ceiling subject to the bank's checks.

Suppliers paid in foreign currency

Keep foreign-currency supplier payments in a separate run with their own approval, because the documents differ: the bank may ask for the invoice and contract, and foreign service fees can involve further rules. See paying a Nigerian supplier in naira or dollars before you agree a currency.

Controls that catch the common frauds

  • Supplier bank details changed only by a separate process that you approve, with a call-back to a known number.
  • No payments to personal accounts for company suppliers without a documented reason; see when a supplier asks to be paid into a personal account.
  • Duplicate check on invoice number and amount before each run.
  • The account name returned by the bank must match the supplier's registered name.
  • The person who prepares the batch never approves it.

What the record file should hold

For each run: the batch list, each approved invoice (showing the fields a VAT invoice needs where VAT applies, such as the supplier's Tax ID, invoice number and VAT charged, as listed in Mondaq's May 2026 review of the Nigeria Tax Act), the bank's confirmation for each payment, the WHT receipts issued and the remittance evidence. Tax law requires records to be kept for at least six years.

Where Pryme fits

With a Pryme Business account you can pay many suppliers in one batch through bulk payouts. The Finance agent can prepare the weekly batch, compute withholding tax for review and assemble the record file; a person approves above the ceiling you set, and every action is recorded. The app shows each fee before you approve.

Questions people ask

How often should a Nigerian business pay suppliers?

A fixed weekly run, with a Monday invoice cut-off and one approval, reduces errors and fraud compared with paying on request.

What WHT rate applies to supplier payments in Nigeria?

Under the 2024 Regulations, 2% for goods (non-manufacturers) and other services, 5% for professional and consultancy fees to residents. Check for changes under the 2025 Act.

Who pays the ₦50 stamp duty on a supplier transfer?

The sender, from 1 January 2026, on electronic transfers of ₦10,000 or more.

Does a small company have to deduct WHT?

Not where the transaction is under ₦2 million and the supplier has a valid Tax ID, under the 2024 Regulations as PwC summarises them.
