Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Kingdom

Student registration at the Nigeria High Commission London

Nigerian students in the UK can register with the High Commission in London. The documents it asks for, the £20 charge, and what registration is for.

The short answer

The Nigeria High Commission in London runs a student registration service for Nigerian passport holders studying in the UK on a student visa. Its consular page asks for a completed form, copies of your Nigerian passport and UK student visa, a photo, your admission and acceptance letters and your certificates, with the £20 consular charge paid by postal order. Visitor visa holders and British passport holders are not entitled to the foreign exchange letters linked to the service.

What student registration is

Student registration puts you on the High Commission's record as a Nigerian citizen studying in the United Kingdom. It is listed as one of the consular services on the mission's own consular page, alongside police checks, letters of non-impediment to marry and document authentication. It is not compulsory for your UK visa, your university place or your right to study, and nothing on GOV.UK requires it. It is a Nigerian-side service for Nigerian students.

The page ties the service to foreign exchange letters. It says that "those on visitors' visa and British passport holders are not entitled to foreign exchange letters". The page does not explain what the letters are used for. Historically, students and their families have used a letter from the mission as supporting evidence when buying foreign currency in Nigeria for fees and upkeep, but the current rules of each Nigerian bank decide what they accept, so ask both the High Commission and the bank before relying on a letter for that purpose.

Who can register

  • Nigerian passport holders on a UK student visa. The documents list asks for the page of your passport showing a valid UK student visa, so the service is built around that group.
  • Not visitors. Someone in the UK on a visitor visa for a short course is not entitled to foreign exchange letters, according to the page.
  • Not British passport holders. If you study on a British passport, even as a dual national, the page says you are not entitled to the letters.
  • Graduate students. If you already hold a Nigerian degree and are now on a postgraduate course, the page asks for your NYSC discharge or exemption certificate.

Documents the High Commission lists

As at October 2026 the consular page lists these items for student registration:

  1. A completed registration form.
  2. Photocopies of your valid Nigerian passport and of the page showing your valid UK student visa. If your immigration status is held as an eVisa rather than a vignette, ask the consular section how they want it shown, since the page still refers to a visa page.
  3. One passport photograph taken in a studio.
  4. Your current letter of admission, showing the start date and the length of the course.
  5. Your final letter of acceptance, showing tuition fees and maintenance, signed and stamped by the Registrar.
  6. Photocopies of the certificates you have gained so far.
  7. Your NYSC discharge certificate or exemption certificate, for Nigerian graduates only.

How to apply

Buy a £20 postal order at a Post Office, made payable to Nigeria High Commission London. Put the form, copies and postal order together, and either submit them at Nigeria House, 9 Northumberland Avenue, London WC2N 5BX, during the submission window, or ask the consular section whether it accepts the pack by post. The mission lists consular and immigration submissions from 9:00am to 1:00pm and official opening hours of 10:00am to 5:30pm. Student questions go to education@nigeriahc.org.uk; general consular questions to consular@nigeriahc.org.uk or 020 7556 8110.

Keep a copy of everything you hand over. The page does not state a processing time, so if you need the letter by a deadline, say so in a covering note and ask when to expect it.

Why it can help

  • A letter from your own government. A registration and any letter issued with it come from the Nigerian mission, which some Nigerian institutions treat as stronger evidence than a university letter alone.
  • A record if things go wrong. If you lose your passport or need an emergency travel certificate, having already given the mission your details and visa status saves explaining from scratch.
  • Evidence for family at home. Parents paying fees from Nigeria often need to show what the money is for. The acceptance letter showing tuition and maintenance, which you have to gather anyway, is the same evidence.

Registration does not change your UK immigration position, does not give you any UK benefit, and does not replace the financial evidence UKVI asks for in a student visa application.

What to check first

  • That your Nigerian passport is valid. An expired passport cannot show a current visa, and renewal is a separate appointment.
  • That your acceptance letter shows both tuition and maintenance and carries the Registrar's signature and stamp. A plain offer email will not match the list.
  • That the High Commission still wants paper forms. Its pages have pointed some services to online portals, so email education@ before you travel to London.
  • The latest notice. The mission said on 11 September 2026 that the standard administrative charge remains £20 and that other figures in circulation were incorrect.

Where Pryme fits

Registration is often part of a bigger task: paying fees and rent in pounds while family helps from Nigeria. A Pryme account holds pounds and naira side by side with local details for each, so a parent can pay in naira and you can convert with Swap when you choose, seeing the rate and the fee before you approve. See how the multicurrency account works, and read sending money to a Nigerian student and what the £20 consular charge covers.

Questions people ask

Is student registration at the Nigeria High Commission compulsory?

No UK rule requires it, and the High Commission page presents it as a service, not an obligation. Students register when they want the mission's record or the foreign exchange letter linked to it.

How much is student registration at the Nigerian embassy in London?

The consular page lists no separate student fee. It says a £20 administrative charge applies to all consular services, paid by postal order to Nigeria High Commission London, and it is non-refundable.

Can I register if I came to the UK on a British passport?

The page says British passport holders are not entitled to foreign exchange letters, so registration through this route is aimed at Nigerian passport holders on student visas.

Who do I email about student registration?

The consular page gives education@nigeriahc.org.uk for student matters, and consular@nigeriahc.org.uk or 020 7556 8110 for general consular questions.
