Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Student money in Warri: FUPRE and PTI costs and budgets

Budgeting for FUPRE or PTI in Effurun: where to find current fees, hostel or off-campus, a labelled monthly budget and getting money from home.

The short answer

FUPRE (Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun) and the Petroleum Training Institute publish fees through their own portals, and amounts change each session, so take current figures only from the official portal or school notice. For living costs, our labelled example puts an off-campus student in Effurun or Ugbomro at about ₦135,000 a month and a hostel student at about ₦100,000, with food the largest item.

Effurun is a student town as well as an oil town. FUPRE sits on the Warri-Port Harcourt Expressway (East-West Road), and the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) is nearby, so thousands of students and their parents plan the same budget each session. This guide covers where to find fees you can trust, the hostel versus off-campus choice, a monthly budget and the practical side of getting money from home.

Where to find current fees

Fee lists circulate widely on blogs and WhatsApp, often a session or two out of date. FUPRE's website links to its admissions and student portals (the main portal, a sub-degree portal and a postgraduate portal); its "Fees/Charges" link was empty when we checked in October 2026. We could not confirm current FUPRE or PTI fee amounts from an official page, so we do not print any here.

  • Log in to the portal with your registration details and read the fee breakdown for your level and programme.
  • Check whether acceptance fee, school charges, departmental dues and hostel are separate lines.
  • Pay only through the channel the portal gives, and download the receipt.
  • Be wary of anyone offering a cheaper "arrangement" for fees or hostel space.

Hostel or off-campus?

On-campus hostel places are limited, and many students rent in nearby areas such as Ugbomro and parts of Effurun. The trade-off is simple to state and harder to price: hostels usually cost less and save transport, while off-campus gives more space and freedom but adds rent, power, water and keke fares. First-year students often start in a hostel and move out later, once they know the area and have friends to share with.

For the full cost of renting, see upfront cost of renting in Warri.

A labelled monthly budget

Every figure below is an example for planning, not a measured cost.

ItemOff-campus, UgbomroHostel
Accommodation (₦300,000 a year / 12; hostel ₦60,000 a session / 10)₦25,000₦6,000
Food and cooking gas₦60,000₦60,000
Transport₦15,000₦5,000
Data and airtime₦8,000₦8,000
Toiletries and laundry₦6,000₦6,000
Handouts, printing, practicals₦7,000₦7,000
Electricity and water share₦6,000₦0
Other₦8,000₦8,000
Total a month₦135,000₦100,000

Over a ten-month session, the off-campus example costs ₦1,350,000 and the hostel example ₦1,000,000, before tuition and school charges. Food is the biggest line in both, so cooking in groups and buying staples in bulk at the start of the month is where most students save.

Ways to stretch the money

  • Share cooking and bulk buying with two or three roommates; a bag of rice split three ways costs each person less than buying in small measures.
  • Buy a data plan that matches how you actually study, and use campus or library Wi-Fi where it works.
  • Share handouts and print only what you need; photograph notes instead of printing where lecturers allow.
  • Walk or share a keke for short trips at busy times.
  • Keep a small emergency sum that you do not touch for food or outings.

Some students earn on the side through tutoring, hair and make-up, phone repairs, design work or selling food on campus. That income helps, but it should not eat into lectures and practicals, which are what the fees pay for. If you earn, set aside part of it for the next session rather than spending it all in the month it arrives.

How students receive money from home

  • Transfer from a parent's account to the student's own account is the simplest route. From 1 January 2026 the sender pays a ₦50 stamp duty on transfers of ₦10,000 or more, so one larger monthly transfer costs less in duty than several small ones.
  • Parents abroad sending through a transfer operator should expect the student to receive naira, not dollars; see receiving money from abroad in Warri.
  • Agree a fixed date and amount each month, and a separate pot for emergencies.
  • Avoid keeping the month's money in cash in a shared room.

What to check first

  1. The official fee breakdown on the portal for your programme and level.
  2. Hostel application dates and rules.
  3. The full upfront cost of any off-campus room before paying.
  4. A written monthly budget agreed with whoever is paying.

Parents planning years ahead can read saving for your child's university.

Where Pryme fits

A student with a Pryme Personal Account can set up a Personal Assistant, named Eva by default, to track spending against the monthly budget and send reminders before money runs low; nothing moves without the student's approval. See Personal Assistant and budgeting with a money assistant.

Questions people ask

How much is FUPRE school fees?

FUPRE publishes fees through its student portal and they change by session and programme. We could not confirm current amounts from an official page, so check the portal rather than blog lists.

How much does a student need monthly in Effurun?

In our labelled example, about ₦135,000 a month off-campus and ₦100,000 in a hostel, before tuition. Your figure depends mainly on rent and food.

Is it cheaper to stay in hostel at FUPRE?

Usually, because hostel fees are lower than rent and you save on transport and utilities, but places are limited.

Where do FUPRE students live off campus?

Many rent in nearby areas such as Ugbomro and parts of Effurun. Visit before paying and get receipts for every fee.
