Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Student costs at Benson Idahosa University: fees and living

What studying at Benson Idahosa University costs: what BIU publishes on fees, why you must get the current schedule, and labelled rent and living costs.

The short answer

Benson Idahosa University (BIU) is a private university in Benin City, so tuition is far higher than at federal universities and varies by programme. We could not find a current undergraduate fee schedule on BIU's own website in October 2026; the only schedule we found there is an undated postgraduate list (for example ₦480,000 a session for a PhD). Ask the admissions or bursary office for the current schedule for your programme, and budget separately for living costs.

What BIU publishes about fees

When we checked BIU's website in October 2026, the fee document we could find was a "School Fees Schedule" PDF, uploaded in 2020, that names no academic session and covers postgraduate programmes only. It is useful as an example of how BIU structures charges, not as a guide to what you will pay now.

Programme (postgraduate, undated schedule)Tuition per session as printed
PhD₦480,000
M.Phil.₦450,000
MBA and MPA₦350,000
Postgraduate Diploma₦150,000

The same schedule lists an acceptance fee of ₦10,000, a registration fee of ₦30,000, school dues of ₦5,000 and a prospectus at ₦1,500, and says fees could be paid per semester, broadly 60% in the first semester and 40% in the second. Private university fees usually rise over time, so expect current figures to differ.

How to get the current fee schedule

  1. Check the admission letter or the student portal, which normally shows the charges for your programme.
  2. Contact the admissions office or bursary through the official contact details on biu.edu.ng.
  3. Ask for a written breakdown: tuition, accommodation, acceptance, registration, departmental and other charges.
  4. Ask whether fees can be paid in instalments and the deadlines for each.
  5. Pay only into the university's official account and keep every receipt.

Be wary of anyone offering an "admission slot" or discount for a payment outside the official process.

Living costs around Ugbor and GRA

BIU's main campus is on the Ugbor side of Benin City, close to GRA. Students who do not live in university accommodation rent nearby. Ugbor and GRA are among the dearer parts of the city, so off-campus rent is often higher than around UNIBEN. The ranges below are labelled examples, not market data.

Type (example)AreaExample yearly rent
Single room, shared facilitiesUgbor side streets₦150,000 to ₦300,000
Self-contained roomUgbor₦250,000 to ₦500,000
One-bedroom flatUgbor or GRA edge₦500,000 to ₦1,200,000

For wider comparisons across the city, see rent in Benin City by area.

A labelled monthly living budget

For a student in a self-contained room in Ugbor, cooking most meals. All figures are examples.

ItemExample monthly cost
Rent (₦360,000 a year divided by 12)₦30,000
Foodstuff for home cooking₦35,000
Meals out and snacks₦12,000
Transport₦8,000
Data and airtime₦6,000
Electricity units and cooking gas₦6,000
Printing, books and study materials₦5,000
Toiletries and laundry₦3,000
Total₦105,000

Check: 30,000 + 35,000 + 12,000 + 8,000 + 6,000 + 6,000 + 5,000 + 3,000 = ₦105,000. Students in university accommodation replace the rent line with the hostel charge and may spend less on transport. Compare with the UNIBEN student budget.

First-year costs that catch families out

  • Acceptance and registration: one-off charges paid soon after admission, before tuition.
  • Departmental and faculty charges: lab coats, practical kits, field trips and professional association dues, especially in sciences and health courses.
  • Medical screening and identity card charges at entry.
  • Setting up a room: mattress, bedding, cooking items, a fan and a rechargeable lamp.
  • Devices: many courses expect a laptop; a used one is a common first-year purchase.

Ask the department, not only the bursary, what new students typically need in the first semester, and ask current students what they spent. Scholarships, sibling discounts or staff-child concessions may exist at some private universities; ask BIU directly rather than relying on what others say.

Planning the full year

For a private university, the year's cost is tuition and other charges plus about twelve months of living costs, even if the student goes home for holidays, because rent is paid yearly.

For ways to spread the cost, see paying school fees in instalments.

Where Pryme fits

Parents abroad can send to a Pryme multicurrency account and convert with Swap when fees fall due, with the rate shown first and the fee on its own line. A VerifyDoc.ai verifiable receipt gives a record of each payment that anyone can check is genuine.

Questions people ask

How much is BIU school fees?

BIU did not publish a current undergraduate fee schedule on its website when we checked in October 2026. Ask admissions or the bursary for the figure for your programme. An undated postgraduate schedule on the site lists ₦480,000 a session for a PhD.

Where is Benson Idahosa University located?

BIU is in Benin City, Edo State, with its main campus on the Ugbor side of the city near GRA.

Can I pay BIU school fees in instalments?

BIU's undated postgraduate schedule says fees could be paid per semester. Confirm the current instalment rules with the bursary.

How much does it cost to live near BIU?

In our labelled example, a student in a self-contained room in Ugbor spends about ₦105,000 a month including rent share, food, transport and data.
