Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Opening a Stocks and Shares ISA as a Nigerian in the UK

Who can open a Stocks and Shares ISA, the £20,000 allowance for 2026-27, what it can hold, and why Nigerian tax residence still matters.

The short answer

A Nigerian living in the UK can open a Stocks and Shares ISA on the same terms as anyone else: GOV.UK requires you to be 18 or over and UK resident, and says nothing about nationality or visa. You can put up to £20,000 into ISAs in the 2026-27 tax year. The UK does not tax income or gains inside the ISA, but Nigeria may if you are still Nigerian tax resident.

For Nigerians who have settled into UK work, the Stocks and Shares ISA is usually the first investment account worth opening. It is not a product but a tax wrapper: investments held inside it are sheltered from UK tax on income and gains. The rules are short, and the main point Nigerian savers miss is not on the UK side at all.

Who can open one

GOV.UK sets three conditions for opening an ISA:

  • You are 18 or over.
  • You are resident in the UK, or you are a Crown servant or member of the armed forces (or their spouse or civil partner) living abroad.
  • The account is in your name alone: you cannot hold an ISA jointly.

There is no nationality or visa condition. A Skilled Worker, a dependant or a student who is UK resident can open one. If you are unsure whether you count as resident, GOV.UK points to its residence guidance; for most people living and working here full-time the answer is clear. Providers will run their own identity checks, so expect to show your passport and proof of a UK address.

The allowance and how to split it

In the 2026 to 2027 tax year, which runs from 6 April 2026 to 5 April 2027, the maximum you can put into ISAs is £20,000 in total. You can put it all into one Stocks and Shares ISA or split it. GOV.UK's examples include £15,000 in a Cash ISA, £2,000 in a Stocks and Shares ISA and £3,000 in an Innovative Finance ISA in one year, and they show more than one account of the same type in a year. A Lifetime ISA payment of up to £4,000 counts within the same £20,000.

What it can hold

GOV.UK lists shares in companies, unit trusts and investment funds, corporate bonds, government bonds and long-term asset funds. You cannot move shares you already own outside an ISA into one, except shares from an employee share scheme; you would sell and rebuy inside the ISA instead. Whether a particular platform lets you buy shares listed on the Nigerian Exchange is up to the platform; see whether Nigerian shares can go inside a UK ISA.

A worked example

Suppose you invest £200 a month for ten years. You pay in £24,000. If the investments grew at an example rate of 5% a year, compounded monthly, the pot would be about £31,056, assuming no fees. That growth of about £7,056 would not be taxed in the UK because it is inside the ISA. The 5% is an illustration only: investments can fall as well as rise, platform and fund fees reduce returns, and you could get back less than you put in.

The Nigerian side: residence still matters

The ISA shelters you from UK tax only. Under Nigeria's Tax Act 2025, as summarised by PwC, an individual is Nigerian resident if any of several conditions applies, including having a permanent home available in Nigeria, a habitual abode there, 183 days or more in Nigeria in a 12-month period, or substantial economic or immediate family ties; a Nigerian resident is taxed on income wherever it arises. Many Nigerians in the UK keep a family home in Nigeria, which can matter here.

If you are resident in both countries, the 1987 UK-Nigeria double taxation agreement has tie-breaker tests (permanent home, centre of vital interests, habitual abode, nationality) and allows credit for tax paid. Our guide to when you stop being Nigerian tax resident goes through it. This is information, not advice; take advice if you still have strong ties to Nigeria.

What to check first

  1. That you are UK resident and will be when you pay in.
  2. The platform's annual fee, dealing charges and fund charges.
  3. What you will invest in. A broad global fund is a common starting point; picking single shares is riskier.
  4. Your emergency fund. Investments suit money you will not need for five years or more; see emergency funds in pounds or naira.
  5. How this fits with savings in Nigeria; our comparison of a UK ISA and naira savings weighs the two.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme is not an ISA provider. For money you keep in Nigeria alongside a UK ISA, a Pryme account opened from the UK holds naira and pounds, and Savings Boxes are available for naira held in Nigeria, with rates shown in the app. Naira deposits are held by a licensed Nigerian microfinance bank, regulated by the CBN and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit.

Questions people ask

Can a foreigner open a Stocks and Shares ISA in the UK?

Yes, if they are 18 or over and UK resident. GOV.UK's rules do not mention nationality or visa type.

How much can I put in a Stocks and Shares ISA in 2026-27?

Up to £20,000 across all your ISAs in the tax year from 6 April 2026 to 5 April 2027.

Can I have two Stocks and Shares ISAs?

GOV.UK's examples show more than one ISA of the same type in a tax year, as long as the total stays within £20,000. Only one Lifetime ISA can be paid into each year.

Is my ISA taxed in Nigeria?

The ISA is a UK tax wrapper only. If you are Nigerian tax resident under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 tests, Nigeria may tax income wherever it arises; the UK-Nigeria tax treaty decides cases of dual residence.
