Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Banking how-tos

Sterling Bank SWIFT code for receiving foreign transfers

Sterling Bank’s SWIFT code is NAMENGLA (NAMENGLAXXX). What a foreign sender needs, which account to give them and why to ask Sterling for routing.

The short answer

Sterling Bank’s SWIFT (BIC) code is NAMENGLA, written in 11-character form as NAMENGLAXXX, the head-office code for Sterling Bank PLC at Sterling Towers, 20 Marina, Lagos. A foreign sender also needs your account name and domiciliary account number; any correspondent or intermediary bank details should come from Sterling itself, not from a third-party website.

Sterling Bank’s SWIFT code

SWIFT / BIC (8 characters)
NAMENGLA
SWIFT / BIC (11 characters)
NAMENGLAXXX
Bank name
Sterling Bank PLC
Branch code
XXX (head office)
Address
Sterling Towers, 20 Marina, Lagos, 101001
Country
Nigeria

These details are from Xe’s SWIFT code directory, checked in October 2026, and the address matches the head office on Sterling’s own contact page. The eight-character and eleven-character forms identify the same institution; “XXX” simply means the head office. Most sending banks accept either.

How a SWIFT code is built

  • NAME: the bank code, four letters chosen by the bank
  • NG: the country code for Nigeria
  • LA: the location code, Lagos
  • XXX: the branch code; XXX is the primary office

Nigerian accounts do not use IBANs. A sender abroad who is asked for an IBAN should enter your account number in that field or choose the option for countries without IBANs. For what each code does, read IBAN, sort code, routing number and SWIFT.

What to give a foreign sender

  1. Your full account name exactly as it appears on the account.
  2. Your Sterling domiciliary account number in the currency being sent. For transfers, use the Inflow account: Sterling’s domiciliary FAQ says Inflow accounts accept only electronic transfers, while Cash Deposit accounts cannot receive transfers at all.
  3. Bank name: Sterling Bank PLC.
  4. SWIFT/BIC: NAMENGLA or NAMENGLAXXX.
  5. Bank address: Sterling Towers, 20 Marina, Lagos.
  6. Correspondent or intermediary bank details for the currency, if the sender’s bank asks. Get these from Sterling directly.
  7. A clear payment reference, such as an invoice number or “family support”.

Common mistakes that delay a SWIFT payment

  • Giving a naira account number for a dollar, pound or euro payment. Foreign currency should go to a domiciliary account in that currency.
  • Giving the Cash Deposit domiciliary account instead of the Inflow account.
  • A name that does not match: nicknames, missing middle names or a business name on a personal account can cause the payment to be held or returned.
  • Using an old SWIFT code or a branch code copied from an outdated website. NAMENGLA with XXX is the head-office code listed for Sterling Bank PLC.
  • Missing intermediary details when the sender’s bank requires them.
  • No payment purpose. Banks on both ends can ask what a payment is for; a clear reference reduces questions.

If you are a freelancer or business receiving regular foreign payments, put these details on your invoice template once, checked with Sterling, so every client uses the same routing.

Charges and timing

Sterling’s Service Charges and Interest Rates page (modified September 2026) lists charges mainly for outgoing domiciliary transfers: 0.5% commission plus VAT, offshore charges of $25 and telex charges of $25, €20, £15 or ₦6,000. It does not list a separate charge for receiving an inward SWIFT transfer, so ask the bank whether any inward fee applies. Separately, the sender’s bank and any intermediary bank may deduct their own fees, which is why the amount received can be lower than the amount sent.

Worked example

Example: a client in the United States sends you $1,000 by SWIFT. Their bank charges them a sending fee, and an intermediary deducts $20 on the way, so $980 arrives in your Sterling Inflow account. If you later send $500 of it onward, the outgoing costs under Sterling’s published charges would be 0.5% commission ($2.50) plus 7.5% VAT on that ($0.19) and the $25 offshore charge: $27.69 in total.

If the money does not arrive

  • Ask the sender for the SWIFT confirmation (often called an MT103) showing the reference and route.
  • Check that the account number, name and currency match your Inflow account.
  • Give Sterling the confirmation and ask it to trace the payment.
  • If funds were sent to a Cash Deposit account number or the wrong currency, ask Sterling how it will be returned or redirected.

For how SWIFT compares with other routes, see SWIFT vs local payment rails, and for Sterling’s account rules, Sterling Bank domiciliary account.

Business accounts

Companies receiving foreign payments into a Sterling corporate domiciliary account use the same SWIFT code. The beneficiary name should match the registered company name exactly as it appears on the account, not a trading name. Outward foreign transfers on corporate accounts are made through SterlingPro or a branch, according to Sterling’s domiciliary FAQ, and supporting documents such as invoices or contracts are usually requested.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme multicurrency account gives local account details for USD, GBP and EUR, so many payers can send to you domestically in their own country instead of by SWIFT. Money stays in the currency it arrived in until you choose to convert.

Questions people ask

What is the SWIFT code for Sterling Bank Nigeria?

NAMENGLA, or NAMENGLAXXX in 11-character form, for Sterling Bank PLC, 20 Marina, Lagos.

Does Sterling Bank have an IBAN?

No. Nigerian banks do not use IBANs; the sender uses your account number with the SWIFT code.

Which Sterling account should I use to receive dollars from abroad?

Your domiciliary Inflow account. Sterling’s FAQ says Cash Deposit domiciliary accounts cannot receive transfers.

What is Sterling Bank’s correspondent bank for USD?

Ask Sterling directly. Correspondent details vary by currency and can change, so do not rely on figures from third-party sites.
