Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Life in Lagos

Starting a transport or delivery business in Lagos

Which Lagos transport businesses still work after the okada ban, how levies and park tickets are changing, and how to plan vehicles, routes and drivers.

The short answer

In Lagos, choose a transport model that fits the state's rules: commercial motorcycles are banned in ten local government areas and on highways and bridges, so cars, vans, tricycles where allowed and bicycles carry more of the delivery trade. Register the business with CAC and LIRS, register vehicles properly, and pay levies only through official electronic channels, which a 2026 Lagos bill would make the rule.

The okada ban shapes the market

Any Lagos transport plan starts with the restrictions on commercial motorcycles. From 1 June 2022 the state banned okada operations in Eti-Osa, Ikeja, Surulere, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland and Apapa, including all the LCDAs under them and all highways and bridges. From 1 September 2022 the ban was extended to Kosofe, Oshodi-Isolo, Somolu and Mushin, and the Ikosi-Isheri, Agboyi-Ketu, Isolo, Bariga and Odi-Olowo LCDAs. Thousands of motorcycles were seized in enforcement.

That has two consequences. A motorcycle passenger business is a poor bet across most of central Lagos. And delivery businesses must design around cars, vans, bicycles and, outside the ban areas, motorcycles, with clear rules for riders about where they may go.

Models that suit Lagos

ModelWhere it fitsWatch out for
Van or car delivery for shops and restaurantsIsland, Ikeja, Lekki, YabaFuel, traffic, parking
Bicycle courier within a districtDense areas with short tripsRain, rider safety
Staff bus or school runEstates to business districtsContract length, punctuality
Haulage from markets and portsMile 12, Apapa, Trade Fair, AlabaAccess roads, port traffic
Ride-hailing fleetCitywideDriver retention, vehicle wear

Lagos also has a growing public transport network: BRT corridors, the Blue and Red Line trains, regulated danfo routes and ferries across the lagoon. A useful niche is first-and-last-mile service, moving people or parcels between a station or jetty and nearby estates and offices.

Registrations and paperwork

  1. Register the business with CAC; a company suits fleets with several vehicles and drivers. See how to register a private limited company.
  2. Create a corporate account on the LIRS e-tax portal and register any office or yard as business premises.
  3. Register each vehicle for commercial use and keep its papers and insurance current in the vehicle.
  4. Make sure every driver holds a valid licence for the vehicle class.
  5. Register for PAYE with LIRS if drivers are employees rather than contractors.

Park tickets, unions and levies

Transport operators in Lagos have long faced daily ticketing at parks and on the road. A bill heard by the Lagos State House of Assembly in May 2026 addresses this directly. It names LIRS as the collecting authority, says no tax, levy or fee should be paid or received in cash, and bans roadblocks by any person, union or association set up to collect taxes, levies or dues, with a fine of ₦5 million or three years' imprisonment, or both. Daily tickets such as transporters' tickets would be harmonised, with rates set by the State Joint Revenue Committee.

Our guide to dealing with multiple taxation in Lagos covers how to respond when collectors stop your drivers.

Insurance, accidents and drivers

Lagos roads are hard on vehicles and on people. Before the first trip, decide what happens when something goes wrong, because it will. Put these in place:

  • Commercial insurance for each vehicle, and goods-in-transit cover if you carry customers' stock.
  • A written driver or rider agreement covering hours, fuel, fines, damage and what happens to cash collected.
  • A simple incident form: photos, the other party's details, the police station involved if any, and witnesses.
  • A maintenance log per vehicle. Potholes, floods and stop-start traffic wear brakes, tyres and suspension faster than the manufacturer's schedule assumes.

Driver turnover is a constant cost. Good drivers in Lagos are courted by ride-hailing apps and private employers, so pay on time, keep vehicles in decent condition and treat fines fairly. A driver who feels cheated over a traffic fine is often a driver who leaves the following week.

Finding the first customers

Start with businesses that need regular, predictable runs: pharmacies sending refills, restaurants with lunch delivery, mini-marts restocking from Mile 12 or Trade Fair, schools needing a morning bus. Contract work smooths the week far better than one-off requests. Price by zone and time of day, and agree in writing how waiting time and failed deliveries are charged.

Running the fleet

A worked example

Take an example delivery van working for shops in Ikeja and Yaba, doing 18 drops a day at an example ₦2,500 a drop over 24 days: ₦1.08 million a month. Take out an example ₦450,000 for fuel, ₦200,000 for the driver, ₦80,000 for maintenance and an allowance for levies and parking, and the margin is thinner than the headline suggests. Use your own figures.

Controlling cash

Cash in a driver's pocket is the oldest leak in Lagos transport. Ask customers to pay into the business account, give drivers a daily float, and reconcile every evening. Cutting rider remittance risk explains a working routine.

Where Pryme fits

Transport is a supported Spaces sector and Spaces operates in Lagos. A transport business with a Pryme Business Account can apply to join and reach customers whose Loans on Spaces can only be spent with Spaces merchants. Ask Pryme about terms. Bulk payouts help when paying several drivers at once.

Questions people ask

Where is okada banned in Lagos?

Eti-Osa, Ikeja, Surulere, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland and Apapa from June 2022, then Kosofe, Oshodi-Isolo, Somolu and Mushin from September 2022, plus all highways and bridges.

Can I start a delivery business in Lagos with bikes?

Motorcycles are restricted in many areas. Bicycles, cars and vans are safer bets in the ban areas; check rules for your exact routes.

Do I have to pay park union tickets in Lagos?

A 2026 Lagos bill would ban roadblock collection and harmonise transporters' tickets under LIRS. Pay only levies with a clear legal basis, electronically.

What papers does a Lagos commercial vehicle need?

Commercial vehicle registration, valid insurance, roadworthiness papers and a licensed driver. Keep copies in the vehicle at all times.
