Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Life in Lagos

Shop signs in Lagos: how LASAA approval works

Why a Lagos business needs LASAA approval for a sign, what to prepare before applying, common mistakes, and how to deal with enforcement visits.

The short answer

In Lagos, outdoor signs, light boxes, banners and billboards are regulated by LASAA, the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency, so apply for approval before you install a sign. Prepare details of the sign's size, position and lighting, the property owner's consent and your business documents. Pay only through official channels and keep the approval and receipt at the premises.

What counts as a sign

Most new owners think of signage as the board over the door. In Lagos the rules reach further. Anything you display outdoors to identify or promote the business can fall under the signage regime, including:

  • The fascia sign above the shop front, lit or unlit.
  • Projecting signs and light boxes that stick out over the pavement.
  • Banners and flex prints on fences, gates and walls.
  • Wall branding and painted shop fronts in a company's colours.
  • Directional signs at junctions pointing to your premises.
  • Posters on poles, bridges or public structures, which are tightly controlled.
  • Billboards and digital screens.

Small, flat signs on your own premises are treated very differently from a large lit board on a main road, but it is safer to ask than to assume yours is exempt.

Why approval matters

Signs placed without approval can be removed, and the business may face charges to recover the structure. A sign that falls in a storm or blocks sight lines at a junction is also a safety and liability risk. Approval protects the money you spend on the sign, and the approval reference is what you show when an officer visits.

There is a practical reason too: Lagos businesses already face many charges, and an approved sign with a receipt filed at the premises is one less argument at the door. A bill heard by the Lagos State House of Assembly in May 2026 would require every tax, levy or fee to be paid electronically, never in cash, and would penalise unauthorised collectors. Treat any cash demand over a sign with suspicion.

Before you apply

Get these ready before you contact LASAA or a licensed signage practitioner:

Sign design
Artwork with exact dimensions and materials
Position
Photographs of the building and a marked-up drawing showing where the sign will go
Lighting
Whether it is lit, how, and how it connects to power
Owner's consent
Written permission from the landlord or property owner
Business documents
CAC registration and your LIRS taxpayer details, with tax receipts

Ask LASAA directly what drawings, scales and documents it currently requires, because requirements and charges change. Keep a written record of what you were told and by whom.

The process in practice

  1. Design the sign and decide its position with your landlord.
  2. Contact LASAA or a practitioner it recognises and ask for an initial assessment of the placement, size and display.
  3. Submit the formal application with drawings and documents.
  4. Pay the assessed charge through official channels and keep the receipt.
  5. Install only after approval, and display the permit or structure number if you are told to.
  6. Diary the renewal date if the approval is time-limited.

Getting the sign right for Lagos

A good Lagos sign is readable from a moving danfo or a car crawling in traffic, not just from the pavement. Keep the name short, the contrast high and the main service obvious: "Pharmacy", "Barber", "Mini-mart". Lit signs pay off on streets where trade continues after dark, but check that your backup power can carry them during Eko Electric or Ikeja Electric outages, or the sign goes dark exactly when customers need to find you.

Strong rain and wind between spring and autumn test fixings. Use a sign maker who will put the mounting method in writing. Our guide to increasing footfall to your shop covers what else draws people in.

Landlords, estates and shared buildings

In a plaza or shopping complex, the building's management usually controls where tenants' signs go and how big they can be, and may handle approval for a single shared signboard at the gate. Ask before you order anything, and get the plaza's rules in writing as part of your lease. In residential estates in Lekki, Magodo or Gbagada, estate associations often restrict commercial signs entirely, which matters for home-based salons, tutors and shortlet operators.

If you share a frontage with other businesses, agree positions with them and the landlord first. Disputes over who covered whose sign are common in busy Lagos plazas, and a written plan avoids them. When you move out, remove your sign and leave the wall in good order, or the cost may be taken from your deposit.

A worked example

An example Yaba phone accessories shop budgets ₦250,000 for a lit fascia sign and ₦60,000 for flex banners. The owner asks LASAA about approval before ordering, adjusts the sign's size to the guidance, and stores the approval and receipt with the shop's LIRS documents. These amounts are illustrative only.

Where Pryme fits

Keeping permits, receipts and renewal dates in one place is a job for the Compliance agent in a Pryme Business Account, which prepares reminders and records actions for a person to approve. See the full Lagos permits checklist and the Compliance agent.

Questions people ask

Do I need a permit for a shop sign in Lagos?

Yes, outdoor signs in Lagos fall under LASAA, the state signage agency. Ask for approval before installing, including for banners and light boxes.

Can LASAA remove my signboard?

Unapproved signs can be removed. Get approval first and keep the permit and receipt at the premises.

Should I pay signage officials in cash?

No. Pay through official channels and get a receipt. A 2026 Lagos bill would make cash payment of any levy or fee unlawful.

Does a small sign on my own shop need approval?

Ask LASAA. Treatment depends on size, position and lighting, so confirm rather than assume an exemption.
