Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

AI agents

What should a solopreneur delegate to AI agents first?

A practical order for handing work to AI agents in a one-person business: start with repeatable, checkable tasks and keep pricing and judgement yourself.

The short answer

Start with work that repeats every week, follows a rule you can write down and is easy to check afterwards: matching payments to invoices, chasing overdue invoices, tracking deadlines and answering routine client questions from your own records. Leave pricing, new commitments, refunds outside policy and anything you cannot easily reverse with yourself until the agents have earned trust.

Most solopreneurs do not lack tools. They lack an order of operations. Handing everything to AI agents at once means you cannot tell which one made a mistake, and handing over nothing means the admin keeps eating the hours you meant to spend on paid work. A better approach is to delegate in stages, starting where the risk is lowest and the time saved is easiest to see.

The test: repeatable, rule-based, checkable

Before you delegate a task, ask three questions about it.

  1. Does it happen at least weekly? One-off tasks rarely repay the effort of setting up rules.
  2. Can you write the rule in a sentence or two? "Send a polite reminder seven days after the due date" is a rule. "Handle difficult clients well" is not.
  3. Can you check the result in under a minute? If the only way to know an agent got it right is to redo the work, you have not saved anything.

Tasks that pass all three are good first candidates. Tasks that fail the third test are the ones where mistakes hide, and they should wait. The NIST AI Risk Management Framework makes a similar point in general terms: the people using an AI system should understand its limits and be able to monitor what it does.

A suggested order

StageDelegateKeep yourselfWhy this order
1: Weeks 1–2Matching incoming payments to invoices; categorising expenses; a deadline calendarApproving anything that leaves your accountMistakes are visible and reversible
2: Weeks 3–4Invoice reminders on a fixed schedule; routine client questions answered from your recordsAny reply that changes a price, date or scopeClients see these, so rules must be settled first
3: Month 2Drafting proposals from your rate card; pipeline follow-upsFinal price, timeline and sendingDrafts save time; you still decide
4: Month 3Small payments below a limit you set; monthly close checklistPayments above the limit; anything unexplainedOnly after the earlier stages have a clean record

Stage 1: the books

Reconciliation and categorisation are the classic first task because the answer either matches the bank or it does not. Our explainers on AI bookkeeping and AI bank reconciliation cover where this works and where it fails, such as transfers with no reference.

Stage 2: chasing and answering

Late payment is one of the most common complaints of the self-employed. An agent that sends a reminder on day one, day seven and day fourteen, each citing the invoice, removes the awkwardness without removing you. In the UK, businesses can claim statutory interest and fixed compensation on late commercial payments, which is worth knowing before a client goes quiet; GOV.UK sets out the rules. See also AI for accounts receivable.

What not to delegate yet

  • Pricing and discounts. These set your income and your positioning.
  • New promises. A delivery date or extra deliverable is a commitment only you can make, because only you know your capacity.
  • Exceptions to policy. A refund outside your terms, a payment plan, a goodwill gesture.
  • Anything irreversible above a small amount. Money sent to the wrong account is hard to recover; the FTC warns that impostor scams often target payment details.
  • Tax and legal judgements. An agent can track a deadline. Whether an expense is allowable, or a contract term enforceable, is a question for you and an adviser.

Our article on finance decisions a person should make goes further on where the line should sit.

A worked example

Example only. Amara is a freelance brand designer in Manchester with eight active clients. She logs her admin for two weeks and finds the largest blocks are matching payments and chasing invoices, sorting receipts, and answering "when will the files be ready?" messages.

She delegates the first two in stage 1 and 2, and keeps proposals and pricing herself for now. After a month she reviews the agents' records: every reminder, every match, every answer, each with its source. Two transfers had no reference and were flagged to her rather than guessed. That record is what lets her move to stage 3 with confidence.

If you would like a fuller picture of how several agents divide the work, read setting up AI agents in a one-person business.

How to know a stage is working

Move to the next stage only when the current one has run cleanly for a few weeks. Signs that it is working:

  • You check the agent's work in minutes, not hours, and rarely change it.
  • Exceptions arrive with the evidence attached, so you can decide without digging.
  • Nothing reached a client or left your account that you would not have approved.
  • You can point to a specific block of time you now spend on paid work or rest.

Signs to pause: you keep correcting the same kind of error, the agent is guessing where it should be asking, or you no longer read what it records. Any of these means the rules need tightening before you add more work. Write the fix down as a rule, run it for another week, then review again.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme Business is a business account that comes with five AI agents: a Chief of Staff and Finance, Sales, Customer Support and Compliance agents. Each works inside a mandate with a ceiling, and above the ceiling it stops and you decide. That maps onto staged delegation: the Finance agent can match payments and release payments only below the line you set, and the Chief of Staff brings you only the decisions you must make. See how it works.

Questions people ask

What is the easiest task to give an AI agent first?

Matching incoming payments to invoices and categorising expenses. The result either agrees with the bank or it does not, so mistakes are easy to spot.

Should I let an AI agent send emails to clients?

Start with fixed, rule-based messages such as payment reminders and factual answers from your records. Keep messages that change price, scope or dates for yourself.

How long before I delegate payments?

Only after the earlier stages show a clean record, and then only below a limit you set. Payments above it should wait for you.

Can an AI agent decide what is tax-deductible?

It can categorise and keep records, but whether something is allowable is a tax judgement. Check official guidance or ask an adviser.
