Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Site reports for a house you are building from abroad

What to ask for in a weekly site report when building in Nigeria from abroad: photos, receipts, labour, progress against plan and the next payment.

The short answer

Ask for one short report every week in the same format: dated photos and video from fixed points, work done against the programme, materials delivered and used with receipts, workers on site, problems, and what money is needed next and why. Tie payments to reports and to independent checks at key stages such as foundation, damp-proof course, lintel and roof.

When you cannot visit, the weekly report is the building. It is how you know what has been done, what has been bought, and whether the next request for money is fair. Most problems in remote builds start with reports that are vague, irregular or simply photos of a wall that could have been taken any week. A fixed format, agreed before work starts, fixes most of that.

Agree the format before the first block is laid

Whoever reports (contractor, site supervisor or a relative) should send the same sections, on the same day each week. A template removes argument about what is "enough". Put it in the contract or in a written agreement with the person reporting.

What each weekly report should contain

SectionWhat to ask for
Date and weatherDate on the report and on each photo; rain days explain lost time
Photos from fixed pointsThe same four corners and the same interior spots every week, so you can compare
Short video walk-roundOne continuous clip, no cuts, ideally with a newspaper or phone screen showing the date
Work done this weekMeasured where possible: courses of blocks, metres of foundation, number of lintels
Progress against programmeWhich stage you planned to be at and where you actually are
Materials deliveredSupplier, items, quantity, delivery note photo
Materials used and in stockRough count of cement bags, rods and blocks left on site
LabourNumber of workers each day and their trades
MoneySpent this week, with receipts; balance held; what is needed next week and for what
Problems and decisionsAnything that needs your answer, with options and prices

Photos and video that actually tell you something

  • Fixed points matter more than quantity. Ten photos from random angles say less than four from the same spots.
  • Ask for one photo with a tape measure visible when a dimension matters, such as column size or slab thickness.
  • Ask for reinforcement to be photographed before concrete is poured. Once it is covered, nobody can check it.
  • Ask for the phone's original files, not WhatsApp-compressed copies, at stage milestones; originals keep the date and location data.
  • A live video call at random times is the best check of all.

Receipts and the money section

Each report should reconcile money: the opening balance, what was received, what was spent with a receipt for each item, and the closing balance. Small cash items (water, transport for labourers) can be grouped, but materials and wages should be itemised. If you are paying suppliers directly, the report only needs to confirm delivery against the delivery note; see buying materials directly.

Tie the next payment to the report

The simplest discipline: no report, no payment. A request for money should appear in the report with what it is for and which stage it moves forward. Larger stage payments should wait for an independent check, ideally a quantity surveyor's valuation; see using a quantity surveyor.

Independent checks at key stages

A weekly report comes from someone with an interest in the job going smoothly. At the critical stages, add a check from someone else:

  • Building control stages. Ownkey's 2026 permits guide describes Lagos's stage certification at foundation, damp-proof course, lintel and roofing, and a Certificate of Completion and Fitness for Habitation before occupation. Ask for copies of each.
  • Structural work. For a storey building, a registered engineer should check reinforcement and concrete. COREN licenses engineering practitioners and firms; ask for the engineer's registration.
  • Cost. A registered quantity surveyor measures work done before a stage payment. The Quantity Surveyors (Registration, etc.) Act makes it an offence for an unregistered person to practise as one for reward.
  • Your own eyes. A paid visit by someone you trust who is not involved in the job, a few times during the build.

Warning signs in reports

  • Reports arrive late, irregularly, or only when money is needed.
  • Photos are always close-ups, or from new angles each week.
  • The money section never balances, or receipts are handwritten with no supplier details.
  • Progress claimed does not match the photos: the walls are "at lintel" but no lintel formwork is visible.
  • Requests for "urgent" money to beat a price rise, every week.

If you see these, pause payments and arrange an independent visit before the next stage. A short pause costs less than paying for work that is not there. For the overall money plan, see building a house in Nigeria from abroad.

Where Pryme fits

Paying stage by stage against reports is easier with naira on hand. A Pryme account holds naira next to your local currency; send to the contractor or supplier directly, and the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve. A verifiable receipt for each payment, filed with the week's report, gives you a record that matches money to progress.

Questions people ask

What should a weekly construction report include?

Dated photos from fixed points, a video walk-round, work done against the programme, materials delivered and used, labour, money spent with receipts and what is needed next.

How can I monitor my building project in Nigeria from abroad?

Agree a fixed weekly report format, pay against reports, use live video calls, and add independent checks by a registered engineer and quantity surveyor at key stages.

How do I know site photos are recent?

Ask for original phone files with date data at milestones, a date shown on screen in videos, and random live video calls.

When should I send money for the next stage?

After the report shows the current stage complete, and for large payments, after an independent valuation or stage inspection.
