Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Ireland

Signing a Lagos deed of assignment from Ireland

How to execute a Lagos deed of assignment in Ireland: notary, legalisation via the Nigerian Embassy, and the 30-day stamping clock in Lagos.

The short answer

Sign a Lagos deed of assignment in front of an Irish notary, then have it legalised through the Supreme Court Registrar, the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Nigeria in Dublin, because Nigeria does not accept apostilles. Send it to Lagos fast: practitioners say Lagos deeds should be stamped within 30 days of execution and registered within 60.

What a deed of assignment does

In Lagos, a deed of assignment is the document that transfers the seller's interest in land or a building to you. Signing it is only the start. Under the Land Use Act, section 22, the holder of a statutory right of occupancy may not assign it without the Governor's consent first had and obtained, and section 26 makes contrary transactions null and void. Practitioners at Tope Adebayo LP, writing for Legal500, describe three steps to perfect title in Lagos: consent, stamping and registration. A deed with no consent sought is at risk; one refused consent is invalid.

So when a Lagos lawyer sends you a deed to sign in Dublin, Cork or Galway, two things matter: that your signature will be accepted in Lagos, and that the deed reaches the Lands Bureau quickly enough to be stamped and registered on time.

Step 1: read the deed before you sign

Ask for the draft first and check:

  • Your full name exactly as on your passport, with no initials the registry might query.
  • The seller's name matching the title document (C of O or earlier registered deed).
  • The plot described by survey plan number and coordinates, not only an address.
  • The price, and a clause on who pays for consent, stamping and registration.
  • A clause dealing with what happens if consent is refused.

Our guide on Governor's consent for an overseas buyer covers the consent application in detail, so this article concentrates on executing the deed abroad.

Step 2: sign before an Irish notary

Do not sign at home and post it. Book a notary public in Ireland and sign in front of them. The Faculty of Notaries Public in Ireland says a notary establishes your identity and capacity, attests your signature and completes a notarial act, and may want assurance that you understand the document. The notary does not usually draft it; your Lagos lawyer does. The Faculty's fee page gives no figures, so ask for a quote when you book.

Bring your passport and any document showing the address in the deed. If two buyers, such as spouses, are named, both sign before the notary, or each signs before a notary where they are.

Step 3: legalisation, not apostille

The Hague Conference's status table, updated June 2026, does not list Nigeria as a party to the Apostille Convention. An apostille from the Department of Foreign Affairs is therefore not the end of the chain for Nigeria. The Faculty of Notaries describes the route for non-Hague countries:

  1. The notary attests your signature and adds their seal.
  2. The Registrar of the Supreme Court certifies the notary's signature.
  3. The DFA Consular Section authenticates the document (the Faculty says the consular fee is normally €40 per certificate, page modified April 2023).
  4. The Embassy of Nigeria in Dublin legalises it for use in Nigeria.

We could not open the Embassy of Nigeria in Dublin's own fee page in October 2026, so confirm its current legalisation fee and hours with the embassy before you go. Our guide to legalising an Irish document for Nigeria sets out the chain step by step.

Step 4: get it to Lagos and watch the clock

The Legal500 note says that in Lagos instruments should be stamped within 30 days of execution, that an unstamped instrument cannot be registered, and that registrable instruments should be registered within 60 days under the Lagos Lands Registration Law 2015. Ask your lawyer from which date they will count execution when you sign abroad, and send the legalised deed by tracked courier as soon as the embassy returns it.

The consent application itself, according to the same note, uses Form 1C with supporting documents, including three years' tax clearance for both assignor and assignee, a certified copy of the title, the deed, the survey plan, evidence of land use charge payment and the approved building plan where there is a building. As a buyer living in Ireland you may not have a Nigerian tax clearance certificate; raise this with your lawyer early, because it can hold up the whole file.

Can someone in Lagos sign instead?

Yes, if you give them a power of attorney that clearly authorises them to execute the deed for you. That power is itself signed in Ireland before a notary and legalised the same way, so it saves time only if you expect several documents. The Lagos Lands Bureau says it has reformed consent, including a stated '30 days Governor's Consent' target, and Lagos launched an e-GIS portal in January 2024 for searching titles and applying for consent online (as TheCable reported). Your lawyer can use these to track the file; you should still get copies of every receipt.

Where Pryme fits

Consent, stamp duty and registration are paid in naira in Lagos, usually through your lawyer. With a Pryme Personal Account you hold euro and naira, convert with Swap when you choose and send to the lawyer's account, seeing the rate and fee before you approve. Outside Nigeria, Pryme works through regulated partners.

Questions people ask

Can I sign a Lagos deed of assignment in Ireland?

Yes. Sign it in front of an Irish notary, then have it certified by the Supreme Court Registrar, the DFA and the Embassy of Nigeria in Dublin.

Does an apostille work for Nigeria?

Nigeria is not a party to the Apostille Convention, so Irish documents for Nigeria go through embassy legalisation.

How long do I have to stamp a Lagos deed?

Practitioners say within 30 days of execution, with registration within 60 days under the Lagos Lands Registration Law 2015. Check with your lawyer.

Do I need a Nigerian tax clearance as the buyer?

The Lagos consent file is described as needing tax clearance for assignor and assignee. Ask your lawyer how they handle a buyer living abroad.
