Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Sending money to Nigeria from a UK house sale: the steps

From completion day to the Nigerian account: how house sale money moves from solicitor to bank to Nigeria, how long it takes and what avoids holds.

The short answer

After a UK house sale completes, the buyer's money reaches your solicitor by CHAPS, the solicitor pays off any mortgage and costs, and the balance goes to your UK bank account. You then send it to Nigeria with your bank or a transfer firm. Have the completion statement and solicitor's letter ready, check the 60-day tax reporting rule, and plan for limits and checks on a large sum.

Selling a home in the UK before moving back to Nigeria, or to buy property there, means moving a large sum in a short time. The money passes through several hands, and each one can slow it down if the paperwork is not ready. This guide sets out the usual chain from completion to a Nigerian account, the timing at each step, and the documents that keep it moving.

Step 1: completion and the solicitor

On completion day the buyer's solicitor sends the purchase money to your solicitor or conveyancer. The Bank of England says CHAPS, the sterling same-day payment system, is commonly used by solicitors and conveyancers to complete house purchases. CHAPS usually runs from 6am to 6pm on working days, with customer payments submitted by 5.40pm, and a CHAPS payment cannot be reversed once settled.

Your solicitor then pays off your mortgage, if any, deducts the agreed fees and the estate agent's commission, and prepares a completion statement that shows every figure. Ask for it, and ask for a short letter on the firm's letterhead confirming the sale and the amount paid to you. These two documents are your main evidence of source of funds.

Step 2: the money reaches your UK account

Ask your solicitor how and when they will send the balance, and to which account. Ask, too, whether they will pay an account outside the UK if you want that; many firms will want to pay an account in your own name. Confirm the account details with the firm by phone using a number you already have: fraudsters target house sale money by sending fake "change of bank details" emails.

Step 3: tax before you move it

Check the tax position before the money leaves, so that what you need to pay is not already in Nigeria.

  • Your main home. GOV.UK says you pay no Capital Gains Tax on selling your home if, among other conditions, it has been your only main home for the whole time you owned it, you have not let part of it out (a lodger does not count), and the grounds are under 5,000 square metres. Relief is then automatic.
  • The 60-day rule. GOV.UK says you must report and pay any CGT due on UK residential property within 60 days of completion. UK residents do not need to report online if their total gains are below the tax-free allowance. If you are not UK resident, you must report every sale or disposal of UK property or land within the deadline, even if there is no tax to pay.

If you have already left the UK, or let the property at any time, the rules are more involved; GOV.UK has separate guidance and an adviser can check your case. This is information, not tax advice.

Step 4: sending to Nigeria

Check your channel's limit against the amount. As each bank states it in October 2026: NatWest allows up to £20,000 a day with biometrics; HSBC UK up to £50,000 online and £10,000 by phone; Lloyds up to £100,000 a day online and no maximum in branch; Nationwide says there is no limit. See the HSBC £50,000 limit.

On an amount this size the exchange margin is the main cost, if pounds are converted. Example only: on £150,000, each 0.5% of margin is £750. Lloyds' indicative margin falls with size, from 3.55% up to £10,000 to between 2.10% and 1.50% for £100,000 to £250,000. Ask for the rate for your actual amount and compare it with the mid-market rate before you approve.

Paperwork that avoids holds

  1. The completion statement and the solicitor's letter.
  2. The UK bank statement showing the proceeds arriving from the solicitor.
  3. What the money is for in Nigeria: a land sale agreement, a building contract, or a statement of your own Nigerian account.
  4. Photo ID and proof of address, up to date with your bank or provider.
  5. A note of the total you will send and over how many payments, given to the firm before you start.

For the full list by source, see documents for £20,000 or more.

A typical timeline

Example only; each step depends on the firms involved.

WhenWhat happens
Completion dayBuyer's money reaches your solicitor by CHAPS; mortgage redeemed
Same day or next working daySolicitor sends the balance to your UK account; completion statement issued
Following daysYou check tax, gather documents, call your bank or provider
Send dayPayment instructed before the cut-off; questions answered if asked
Up to several working days laterMoney credited in Nigeria; banks' own estimates run from 1 to 3 business days (NatWest) to more than 4 working days (Nationwide)

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account holds pounds and naira with local details for each, so you can receive the proceeds in pounds and convert in stages with Swap if you prefer. The app shows the rate and the fee before you approve.

Questions people ask

How do I send money from a UK house sale to Nigeria?

Let the solicitor pay the balance to your UK account, check any tax due, gather the completion statement and solicitor's letter, then send it with your bank or a transfer firm within its limits.

Do I pay tax when I send house sale money to Nigeria?

The transfer itself is not taxed, but the sale may be. GOV.UK says CGT on UK residential property must be reported and paid within 60 days of completion, and non-residents must report every disposal.

Can my solicitor send the money straight to my Nigerian account?

Ask your solicitor; many firms prefer to pay an account in your name in the UK. Confirm any bank details by phone to avoid fraud.

What proof do I need for house sale money?

The completion statement, a letter from the solicitor and the bank statement showing the proceeds arriving.
