Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2018OjirehPrime Card

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United States

Sending money to Nigeria for a funeral urgently from the US

The fastest legitimate ways to get naira to family for a funeral the same day, what slows a transfer down, and what to collect before you send.

The short answer

For same-day arrival, pay a licensed remittance provider by debit card and send to a Nigerian bank account that credits over NIP, the real-time interbank system; card payments reach a provider in minutes while bank-account (ACH) payments can take days. Get the recipient's exact account name, 10-digit account number and bank first, and expect identity checks on larger amounts.

The fastest legitimate route, in order

When a death in the family means money is needed at home within hours, the aim is to remove every step that waits for a business day. In practice that means three choices: how you pay, where the money lands, and who you send through.

  1. Pay by debit card, not bank account. Wise's USD help page lists card payments as reaching it in 0 to 30 minutes, against up to 4 working days for ACH. Remitly's US Nigeria page ties its Express option to paying by debit or credit card where available.
  2. Send to a Nigerian bank account. NIBSS describes NIP as a real-time transfer with funds available before settlement, and Verto's summary says it runs 24/7. Account credits can therefore land at night and at weekends.
  3. Use a licensed provider you have used before. A first transfer often triggers identity checks. An account that is already verified moves faster.
  4. Cash pickup only if the person has no account. It depends on branch or agent hours; Zenith Bank's IMT page, for example, gives counter hours of 8am to 4pm on weekdays.

What to get from the family before you send

Most delays in an emergency come from small detail errors, not the provider. Ask one person, ideally the one handling the funeral costs, for:

  • The account holder's full name exactly as the bank holds it. GTBank's MoneyGram page, for instance, asks senders to use the account first name and surname.
  • The 10-digit account number (NUBAN) and the bank's name. Do not accept a number read out over a crackly call; ask for a screenshot of the banking app.
  • A phone number the recipient can answer, in case the provider calls to confirm.
  • For cash pickup: the name exactly as on their ID. Zenith's IMT page lists BVN plus a passport, driver's licence, voter's card or NIMC card.

Our guide to the bank details your family must give you sets this out in full.

Things that slow an urgent transfer

Holidays and weekends on the US side

If you must pay from a bank account, a Federal Reserve holiday or weekend will hold it. Around Christmas 2026, for example, the Federal Reserve schedule shows FedACH stopping at 11:30 p.m. ET on 24 December and resuming at 5:30 p.m. ET on 27 December.

Compliance questions

Providers may ask about the purpose of a payment, your relationship to the recipient and where the money came from, particularly for larger or unusual amounts. Answer plainly; "funeral expenses for my father, sent to my brother" is a normal answer. Splitting one large payment into many small ones to avoid questions is a bad idea and can itself prompt a review.

Limits on both sides

Your provider sets sending limits that rise with verification; Remitly's page says limits depend on location, identity verification, delivery method and destination. In Nigeria, the CBN's instant-payment circular reported by Proshare in March 2026 set maximum NIP thresholds of ₦25 million per transaction for individuals from 1 July 2026, which matters only for very large sums.

A note on scams around bereavement

Funerals bring urgent requests, and urgency is what fraudsters use. The FTC warns that scammers pose as relatives in emergencies, sometimes with voice cloning, and press for payment by gift card or transfer. If a "relative" or "undertaker" sends new account details by message, call a family member you know on a number you already have before sending. More in scams targeting Nigerians in the US.

Worked example (illustrative)

Your sister in Enugu needs ₦1,500,000 for the burial by Saturday. If the quote you see on Friday afternoon is ₦1,400 per $1 with a $5 card fee, you would send about $1,071.43 to deliver ₦1,500,000 (1,500,000 ÷ 1,400), so about $1,076.43 including the fee. The real rate and fee are on the quote screen; the provider must show the amount to be delivered before you pay if it is a covered remittance provider under the CFPB rule.

Where Pryme fits

If you keep a Pryme account, dollars already held in it can be converted with Swap and sent to a Nigerian account without waiting for a new card or ACH payment to clear. The app shows the rate and the fee before you approve. A family member at home can also be helped by the Personal Assistant to track bills, but nothing moves without approval. Start at open an account.

Questions people ask

What is the fastest way to send money to Nigeria today?

Usually a licensed app paid by debit card, sending to a Nigerian bank account that credits instantly over NIP. Paying from a US bank account can add days.

Can my family receive money on Sunday in Nigeria?

Bank account credits over NIP can arrive at any time. Cash pickup depends on branch or agent hours, which are often weekdays only.

Will the provider ask why I am sending money for a funeral?

It may ask the purpose, your relationship to the recipient and the source of funds. These are normal checks; give clear, honest answers.

Can I cancel if I typed the wrong account number?

Under the CFPB rule, a covered provider must let you cancel within 30 minutes of paying, unless the money has already been deposited or collected. Contact the provider at once.
