Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Sending money to Nigeria from Minneapolis

How Nigerians in Minneapolis and St Paul send money home: funding methods, limits, naira payouts and how to check a Minnesota licence.

The short answer

From Minneapolis and St Paul, most people send to Nigeria through a licensed app funded by debit card or bank account. Check your provider's limits before large payments, expect naira-only payouts in Nigeria since 1 May 2026, and confirm Minnesota appears on the provider's NMLS Consumer Access record before you send.

Nigerians in Minneapolis, St Paul and the suburbs mostly send home from a phone. The choices that matter are less about which app and more about how you pay, the limits you will hit, and how the money is paid out at the other end. This guide works through those, then shows how to confirm a provider is licensed in Minnesota.

How you pay affects cost and speed

Provider pages show that the funding method changes the deal. Remitly's US Nigeria page says cost varies by amount, payment method and delivery option, and that its Express option paid by debit or credit card is fastest where available. Sendwave says it takes debit cards only, with no credit cards or PayPal. Afriex's FAQ says it accepts debit cards only as well.

  • Debit card: usually fast; check your bank's daily card limit.
  • Bank account: accepted by some providers, including Remitly; check the delivery time on the quote.
  • Credit card: accepted by some providers; ask your card issuer first whether it treats the payment as a cash advance.
  • Cash: some providers have agent counters; check the provider's own page for locations.

Limits you may run into

Limits are set by each provider and often rise as your account ages. Sendwave says it has daily and monthly "My Limits" that increase over time. Afriex's FAQ says it allows up to $3,000 a day, which can be raised by request. Remitly says limits vary and extra documents may be requested. If you plan a large payment, such as school fees or a land instalment, check the limit days ahead. More in how much you can send to Nigeria from the US.

What arrives in Nigeria

Since 1 May 2026, CBN rules require licensed money transfer operators to pay out in naira only, through naira settlement accounts with authorised dealer banks. Sendwave's page reflects this, saying US dollar payouts are no longer allowed. That leaves three main payout types:

PayoutWhat the provider pages say
Bank accountRemitly names banks including Access, Fidelity and GTBank for deposit; Sendwave pays naira accounts.
Cash pickupSendwave lists pickup at Access, Zenith and Fidelity branches with an SMS voucher code and password.
Mobile walletRemitly lists mobile wallet payouts, naming MTN MoMo and payment service banks such as 9PSB.

Planning a regular monthly transfer

Many people in the Twin Cities send a fixed amount home every month for a parent's upkeep. A few habits make that cheaper and less stressful. Send on the same day each month, a couple of days after payday, so the funding card never declines. Agree with the recipient whether you are sending a fixed dollar amount or a fixed naira amount: the first keeps your budget steady, the second keeps theirs steady. Keep each receipt in one folder, so you can show the pattern if a bank or an immigration case ever asks. And review the provider every few months, because promotional rates usually apply only to a first transfer.

Keeping your phone and account safe

Because most transfers from the Twin Cities start on a phone, the phone is where losses usually start too. Use the app's own security features, such as a PIN or biometric lock, and never share a one-time code with anyone, even someone claiming to be from the provider. Add a recipient only from details the recipient sent you directly, and check the name the app shows. If your phone is lost or stolen, contact the provider and your bank to block access before anything else.

Checking a Minnesota licence

Each state licenses money transmitters separately. We could not load the Minnesota regulator's page when writing, so rely on the check that works in any state: search the provider's NMLS number on NMLS Consumer Access, which CSBS describes as the free public lookup for state-licensed money services businesses, and check Minnesota appears among its state licences. Remitly, Inc., for example, gives NMLS 1028236 on its page. Our guide to checking whether a remittance app is licensed in your state walks through the search.

BVN enrolment in the Twin Cities

NIBSS's diaspora page (modified 25 June 2026) lists a BVN enrolment centre in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, with $45 shown as the fee at most centres. You need a BVN to open or update most Nigerian accounts in your own name.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Personal account can be opened from Minnesota and holds USD and NGN in your name. Send shows the rate and the fee before you approve, and a Personal Assistant can prepare the monthly transfer for your approval. For relatives saving in naira, Savings Boxes can hold money set aside for a purpose.

Questions people ask
