Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United States

Sending money to Nigeria from Dallas: what to know

The Texas Department of Banking's role, in-person and app options in Dallas, the 1% tax on cash transfers and how to complain if a payment fails.

The short answer

Money services businesses that send money from Dallas are supervised by the Texas Department of Banking, which takes complaints by mail, fax, email or on its toll-free line, (877) 276-5554. You can send through an app funded from a bank account or card, or at an agent counter in person, but paying in cash or by money order adds a 1% federal remittance transfer tax from 1 January 2026.

Who oversees transfers from Texas

In Texas, the Department of Banking supervises money services businesses, the category that includes money transmitters sending to Nigeria. Its Non-Depository Supervision Division handles complaints about them. Check cashers are not supervised by the Department; those complaints go to the Texas Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division.

Because you are a consumer in a US state, the federal Remittance Transfer Rule also applies: you get a disclosure before paying, a receipt, a 30-minute cancellation window and error-resolution rights. Texas supervision and federal rules work together; the receipt must name the state agency that licenses the provider, so a Dallas receipt should point you to the Texas Department of Banking or whichever state licenses that firm.

In-person and app options around Dallas

Dallas-Fort Worth senders tend to use one of three routes:

  • Agent counters of national money transmitters inside grocery stores, pharmacies and check-cashing shops. Use the provider's own locator with your ZIP code.
  • Apps funded from a US bank account or debit card, which pay into a Nigerian bank account, wallet or for cash pickup.
  • Bank wires from a US bank to a Nigerian bank account, which follow different rules and paperwork; see wiring dollars to a Nigerian domiciliary account.

Some firms serving Nigerians are based locally. Raenest, for instance, lists an office at 7460 Warren Parkway in Frisco on its contact page and says it is not a bank; its US money services business is Raelic LLC, NMLS 2746973. That is a fact about where a company sits, not a recommendation: compare the fee, rate and amount received for your own transfer on the day.

Cash at the counter now carries a federal tax

The IRS confirmed on 10 April 2026 that a 1% remittance transfer tax applies, from 1 January 2026, to transfers from the US to recipients abroad paid with cash, a money order, a cashier's check or a similar physical instrument. The sender owes it and the provider collects it. If you usually pay cash at a counter in Garland or Irving, moving to an app funded from your bank account takes you outside that tax as the IRS describes it. More in who pays the 1% remittance tax.

Worked example

Example only. Emeka in Dallas sends $1,200 to his father in Owerri for a roof repair.

Cash at a counterApp funded by bank account
Transfer amount$1,200$1,200
Federal 1% tax$12$0
Provider feeAs shown before payingAs shown before paying
Naira receivedAmount x provider's rateAmount x provider's rate

Because licensed operators pay out in naira in Nigeria (a CBN rule reinforced from 1 May 2026), $1,200 will not reach his father as dollar cash. Reporting on the CBN's January 2024 directive said cash pickups above about $200 equivalent must go into a bank account, so this amount should be sent to his father's bank account rather than for collection.

What your family in Nigeria will need

For a bank deposit, the name you enter must match the recipient's bank account name, and you need the 10-digit account number and the bank's name; name mismatches are a common reason for failed transfers, covered in transfers failed for a name or BVN mismatch. For cash pickup, Western Union's Nigeria receive FAQ says the recipient must be 18 or over and show an international passport, driver's licence, permanent voter's card, national ID card or BVN, along with the tracking number, expected amount, your full name and the sending country.

  • Send the tracking number to the recipient yourself, by a channel you trust.
  • Tell them the expected naira amount from your receipt, so they can spot a short payment.
  • Ask them to confirm receipt the same day; problems are easier to fix early.

If a transfer goes wrong: complaining in Texas

  1. Write to the provider with the tracking number and receipt, and set out the error. Under federal rules you have 180 days from the disclosed date available to report it.
  2. If unresolved, send a complaint to the Texas Department of Banking, Non-Depository Supervision Division, 2601 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas 78705-4294; phone (877) 276-5554; fax (512) 475-1288.
  3. Include the company's name and office location, a short chronological account with names and dates, and legible copies, not originals, of your receipts.
  4. The Department forwards the complaint, and the company has 30 days to respond to you with a copy to the Department. It will not step in if the matter is already in litigation or decided by a court.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Personal account can be opened from Texas; it holds USD and NGN with local details and lets you choose when to convert, with the rate and the fee shown before you approve. Outside Nigeria, its activities are carried out through regulated partners. See multicurrency accounts and Send.
