Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Sending money to family from Asaba: transfer, agent or cash?

How to get money from Asaba to family in Delta villages or other states: bank transfer, POS agent cash-out, sending cash, and what each really costs.

The short answer

For most families a bank transfer from Asaba is the cheapest and safest way to send money, as long as the person receiving has an account and an agent or ATM nearby to withdraw. Where they need cash, the real cost is the POS agent's fee at their end, which is not capped by the CBN, and agents can pay out no more than ₦100,000 per customer per day. Sending cash with a trusted traveller still makes sense for people with no account or no nearby agent.

The three main options

Money leaves Asaba for villages across Delta, for Onitsha and the South-East, and for Lagos, Abuja and beyond. Whatever the destination, you are choosing between three routes: a transfer into the recipient's account or wallet, a transfer that the recipient then turns into cash at a POS agent, or physical cash carried by someone you trust. Each has a different cost, speed and risk.

RouteSpeedTypical cost to checkMain risk
Bank or app transferUsually minutesSender's transfer fee (shown in app)Wrong account, scams
Transfer then POS cash-outMinutes, if agent has cashAgent's withdrawal fee at the other endAgent cash shortage, fees
Cash with a travellerHours to daysFare or a gift for the carrierLoss, theft, disputes

Transfers: cheapest when the family can use them

If the person receiving has a bank account, a payment service bank wallet or a fintech account, a transfer is fast and leaves a record. The fee you pay as sender is shown in your banking app before you confirm, and some providers offer a number of free transfers. Check it every time; it can change.

The weak point is the recipient's end. Older relatives may not have a phone that runs a banking app, may be unsure about PINs, or may live far from an ATM. Setting them up with a simple account, and showing them how to check the balance, is often the best thing you can do before you send anything.

POS agents in the village

Agent networks reach many towns and villages that have no bank branch. The recipient visits an agent, who pays cash from a card or transfer. Two things shape the cost:

  • The agent's fee. There is no CBN cap. Techpoint Africa reported in January 2025 that agents in Lagos and Enugu charged ₦150 to ₦200 on withdrawals up to ₦5,000, and ₦200 or more on ₦5,000 to ₦10,000. Rural agents short of cash may charge more.
  • The limits. Under a December 2024 CBN circular, agents may pay out ₦100,000 per customer per day and ₦500,000 per customer per week, with a ₦1.2 million total per agent per day (Techeconomy). A large sum for a burial or hospital bill may need several days or a bank visit.

The CBN's October 2025 agent banking guidelines also list what agents may do, including cash-in, cash-out, bill payments and naira transfers, which means a village agent can help a relative pay a bill directly instead of withdrawing cash.

Worked example: ₦50,000 to a parent in a village

An example with assumed fees. You send ₦50,000 by transfer (assumed fee ₦50). Your mother withdraws it at a village agent in one go, paying an assumed ₦1,000 fee for a ₦50,000 cash-out. Total cost: ₦50 + ₦1,000 = ₦1,050, or 2.1% of the amount. If you add the agent fee to what you send (₦51,000), she receives the full ₦50,000 in cash. If she instead pays her bills by transfer and withdraws only ₦10,000, the agent fee falls to an assumed ₦300, and the total cost to ₦350.

Some families prefer a fixed monthly amount on a set date, so parents can plan around it. Agree the date and amount, and tell them in advance if it will be late; regularity often matters more than size.

When cash still wins

  • The recipient has no account, no phone or no BVN and NIN.
  • There is no agent within reach, or agents nearby are often out of cash.
  • A large sum is needed in cash on one day, above agent limits.
  • A family member is travelling there anyway and can hand it over in person.

If you send cash, count it in front of the carrier, tell the recipient the amount by phone, and ask them to call when it arrives. Do not send cash in parcels with transport companies unless they accept it in writing.

Avoiding scams

Requests for urgent money from a relative's hacked WhatsApp, and callers claiming you sent money to the wrong account, are common. Call the person on a number you already know before you send. Our guides to hacked WhatsApp money requests and the wrong transfer scam explain the patterns.

What to check first

  1. Confirm the account name your app shows matches the person you mean.
  2. Ask the recipient where they will withdraw and roughly what the agent charges.
  3. For large sums, split across days or arrange a bank withdrawal.
  4. Keep the transfer receipt until the recipient confirms they have the money.

Where Pryme fits

With Send you see the fee before you confirm. Your Personal Assistant can set up a monthly support payment and remind you each month; it prepares the transfer and nothing moves until you approve it. See the assistant and our guide to sending money to family with an assistant.

Questions people ask

What is the cheapest way to send money to my village from Asaba?

Usually a bank transfer, if the person can use their account. The main extra cost is the POS agent's fee if they withdraw cash.

How much can a POS agent pay out in one day?

₦100,000 per customer per day and ₦500,000 per week, with ₦1.2 million total per agent per day, under the December 2024 CBN circular.

How much do POS agents charge for ₦10,000?

There is no official cap. Reported charges in early 2025 were ₦200 or more for ₦5,000 to ₦10,000. Village agents set their own fees.

Is it safe to send cash with transport companies?

Only if the company accepts cash in writing. It is safer to transfer, or to send cash with a trusted person who confirms delivery.
