Ten years, one trunk

2016E-commerce

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Safety

Hacked WhatsApp and fake relatives asking for money

A friend or relative messages asking for an urgent transfer, but it is not them. How these impersonation scams work in Nigeria and how to check in seconds.

The short answer

When a friend, relative or boss messages asking for an urgent transfer, especially to an account in someone else's name, call them on a number you already have before sending anything. Fraudsters hijack WhatsApp and social media accounts, or create lookalikes, and use them to ask contacts for money. Protect your own account by turning on WhatsApp's two-step verification and never sharing the six-digit registration code.

How the scam works

The message comes from a name you trust. 'Please, I need ₦150,000 urgently for my mother's surgery. My bank app is not working, send it to this account and I will refund you tonight.' Or: 'This is my new number, save it.' Or, from your 'boss': 'I am in a meeting, pay this supplier now, I will explain later.'

There are three main ways the scammer gets there:

  • Hijacked account: they take over your contact's real WhatsApp, usually by tricking them into sharing the six-digit registration code. Now every message looks genuine.
  • New number with a copied profile: they use your contact's photo and name on a new number and say they have changed phones.
  • Hacked social media: the same trick on Facebook, Instagram or X, often also used to push fake investment offers.

How accounts get hijacked

Typically, the victim gets a message from a contact (already hijacked) saying 'I sent you a code by mistake, please send it to me'. That code is actually WhatsApp's registration code for the victim's own number. Sharing it hands over the account. The same thing happens with fake 'promo' or 'voting' messages asking for a code.

Signs a request is fake

SignExample
Urgency and secrecy'Please do it now, don't tell anyone'
Account in a different name'Send it to my friend's account, mine has issues'
They avoid a call'I can't talk, I'm in a meeting / at the hospital'
Tone or language feels offDifferent greetings, spelling or nicknames
New number'This is my new line'
Request for a code'Send me the code I sent you by mistake'

The 30-second check

  1. Do not reply with money or any code.
  2. Call the person on the number saved in your phone, not the one messaging you if it is new. A voice call, not a chat.
  3. If you cannot reach them, ask a question only they would know, or call someone close to them.
  4. If it is a work request, confirm through a separate channel, such as calling the person or checking with a colleague.
  5. If it is fake, warn the person (through another channel) and your shared contacts, and report the account in WhatsApp.

Worked example

Example only. Bola gets a WhatsApp message from her cousin Dayo's account: 'Abeg, I need ₦120,000 for a hospital deposit. Send to this account, it's the doctor's.' The account name is not Dayo's. Bola calls Dayo's saved number; he answers from his office and says he lost access to WhatsApp an hour ago after sharing a 'code sent by mistake'. Bola posts a warning in the family group. Two other relatives had received the same message; one had been about to send money.

When the request comes from work

Businesses are targeted too. A finance officer gets a message that appears to be from the managing director asking for an urgent supplier payment, or a supplier's 'new account details' arrive by WhatsApp or email. Set a rule that no new payee and no change of bank details is accepted without a call to a known number, and that urgency never overrides that rule. A second person approving payments above a set amount adds another check.

Protect your own WhatsApp

  • Turn on two-step verification in WhatsApp's settings and set a PIN only you know.
  • Never share the six-digit registration code with anyone, for any reason.
  • Add an email address to your WhatsApp account for recovery.
  • Protect your SIM against swaps; see SIM swap fraud.
  • Set a screen lock on your phone and a lock on WhatsApp if your phone allows.
  • Agree a family code word for real emergencies involving money.

The NCC also warns that fraudsters ask for one-time codes sent after SIM activation; the same rule applies to every code that lands on your phone. Never share it.

If you already sent money or lost your account

  • If you sent money, call your bank at once with the receiving account details and follow our first-hour fraud plan.
  • If your WhatsApp was taken, reinstall it and register your number again; the code comes to your phone, and once you verify, the scammer is logged out. If two-step verification was set by the scammer, you may need to wait before you can register.
  • Tell your contacts from another account or by phone that messages from you were not you.
  • Report it to the police; see how to report fraud.

For scams aimed at Nigerians abroad, see money transfer scams targeting the diaspora.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Personal Assistant can prepare a transfer to family when you ask it to, but nothing moves without your approval, so take that moment to check who you are paying. Sending from Pryme always needs your transaction PIN and authenticator app. See send.

Questions people ask

My friend's WhatsApp is asking me for money. Is it real?

Call your friend on the number you already have before doing anything. If the account is hacked, they will not know about the request.

How do people hack WhatsApp in Nigeria?

Usually by tricking you into sharing the six-digit code WhatsApp sends when your number is registered on a new phone, or through SIM swap.

How do I recover my hacked WhatsApp?

Reinstall WhatsApp and register your number again. The code goes to your phone, and verifying logs the scammer out. Then turn on two-step verification.

Can I get money back after sending to a WhatsApp scammer?

Possibly, if you report to your bank very quickly so it can try to hold the funds. Report within hours, not days.
