Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

United Arab Emirates

Sending money to Nigeria while on a UAE visit visa

Whether you can send money from a UAE exchange house or app without an Emirates ID, which document to bring, and the options that avoid the problem.

The short answer

Visitors without an Emirates ID can usually send money from a UAE exchange house counter using their passport with the UAE entry visa or stamp, but each provider sets its own ID rules, so confirm with the branch before you go. Apps are harder: they verify you against the country you sign up in, and the providers' pages we read do not say they accept visitors without UAE residency.

Why the Emirates ID question comes up

The Emirates ID is the identity document UAE residents use for almost everything, including money transfers. Visitors do not have one. A provider still has to identify you before it takes your money, so the question is which document it will accept instead, and whether its systems let a non-resident open a customer record at all.

We could not find a published list of accepted IDs on the exchange house pages we opened. Al Ansari Exchange's FAQ, for example, asks customers to keep their ID details up to date in the app but does not say which documents it accepts. That means the practical answer has to come from the branch.

Your options

OptionWhat you needWhat to watch
Exchange house counter in the UAEYour passport with the UAE entry visa or stamp; cash or a cardAsk the branch first whether it serves visitors and for which amounts
A UAE app such as Remitly's UAE serviceA profile in the UAE; Remitly lists debit, credit and prepaid cards for UAE sendersPayment options "vary depending upon the sender's location"; verification is tied to the profile's country
Your home-country app or bankYour existing profile and accountSome apps flag transfers started abroad
Ask a resident to send for youTrust, and cash or a transfer to themThe transfer is in their name and on their record

At an exchange house counter

Bring your passport, the page with your UAE visa or entry stamp, and the recipient's full bank details. Call the branch first and ask three questions: do you serve customers on a visit visa, which document do you need, and is there a lower limit for visitors. For larger amounts, bring something that shows where the money came from, such as a bank statement from your home account. See source of funds at UAE exchange houses.

Using the app you already have

If you live in the UK, Canada, the US or elsewhere and are only visiting the UAE, the simplest route is often your usual app, funded from your home account. Be aware that providers watch for logins from unusual places. Remitbee's help page, for example, says its security team will flag and investigate transfers initiated away from the user's place of residence in Canada, though most reviews finish without asking for more. Expect a short delay, and keep your phone number reachable.

Asking a resident friend

A relative or friend with an Emirates ID can send it for you, but it is their transfer. If the provider asks where the money came from, they have to answer, and handing them a large sum of cash can make that hard. Use this only for small amounts and people you trust.

What your recipient in Nigeria needs

Nothing changes on the Nigerian side. The recipient needs a bank account or wallet that can receive international transfers; the CBN's 2013 tiered-KYC circular says international funds transfer is prohibited on Tier 1 accounts. The name you enter must match the bank's record: Remitly says banks and pickup agents "verify that the name matches exactly, or very closely". And payouts from money transfer operators are in naira, with over-the-counter cash capped at the naira equivalent of $200, according to TheCable's report on the CBN's 2026 FX Manual.

Carrying cash instead

Some visitors decide to take the money home in cash rather than send it. That has its own rules. Nigeria Customs told airport stakeholders in July 2025, as reported by Peoples Gazette, that travellers must declare foreign currency above $10,000, and that failing to do so may lead to confiscation and legal action. Cash also cannot be traced if it is lost or stolen. For anything above a modest amount, a transfer with a receipt is safer. Our guide to carrying cash to Nigeria and the declaration limit explains the declaration.

Steps

  1. Decide whether you will send through a UAE counter or your home app.
  2. For a counter: call the branch, confirm it serves visitors and which ID it needs.
  3. Get the recipient's account name and 10-digit account number from their bank app.
  4. Ask for the rate, fee and naira amount before paying.
  5. Keep the receipt and send the reference to your recipient.

If the transfer is held, see what to do when a UAE transfer is on hold.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme account can be opened from any country and holds NGN, USD, GBP and EUR, so you can manage money while travelling; outside Nigeria, Pryme's activities are carried out through regulated partners. The authenticator app and transaction PIN work wherever you are. Read the multicurrency account.

Questions people ask

Can I send money from Dubai on a visit visa?

Usually at an exchange house counter with your passport and UAE visa or entry stamp, but each provider sets its own rules, so call the branch first.

Do I need an Emirates ID to send money to Nigeria?

Residents are normally asked for it. Visitors do not have one and use their passport where the provider accepts it.

Can I use my UK or Canadian app while in the UAE?

Usually, but providers may flag transfers started abroad. Remitbee, for example, says it investigates transfers initiated away from the user's place of residence in Canada.

Is there a limit for visitors?

Providers we checked do not publish a visitor limit. Ask the branch before you go.
