You are not borrowing. You are selling to somebody who already has the money — and that money can only be spent with a business like yours.

An online grocery store, built out of a faulty tab. Selling the food was the easy part — taking the money for it, and moving it, turned out to be the business.

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.
Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.
Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.
Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.
Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.
Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.
Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.
Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.
Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.
Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Sending dollars to Nigeria from the US: average costs, the 1% federal remittance tax on cash-funded transfers since 2026, and your rights.
Part of the guideSending money to Nigeria: the real cost, explained
From the US, the cheapest way to send money to Nigeria is usually a licensed digital provider funded from a bank account or debit card, paying naira into a Nigerian bank account. The World Bank put the average total cost at 2.72% on $200 in Q3 2025, and since 1 January 2026 transfers funded with cash, money orders or cashier's checks carry a 1% federal excise tax. Federal rules also let you cancel within 30 minutes and dispute errors for 180 days.
Americans of Nigerian heritage send billions of dollars home each year, and the rules on the US side changed in 2026. A new federal tax now applies to some transfers, depending on how you pay. This article covers what is specific to sending from the United States. For the overall picture, including Nigerian payout rules and timing, see our guide to the real cost of sending money to Nigeria.
The World Bank's Remittance Prices Worldwide survey recorded these averages for sending $200 from the United States to Nigeria in Q3 2025:
Fixed fees weigh more on small transfers, so the percentage cost on larger sums is often lower. For comparison, the World Bank's global average cost of sending through banks was 14.55% in Q1 2025, and through digital-only transfer operators 3.55%.
The One Big Beautiful Bill Act created a 1% federal excise tax on certain remittance transfers from the US to recipients abroad, effective for transfers from 1 January 2026. The IRS published proposed regulations on 10 April 2026. What decides whether you pay is how the transfer is funded, not who you are.
| How you pay for the transfer | 1% tax applies? |
|---|---|
| Cash at an agent or counter | Yes |
| Money order, cashier's check or traveler's check | Yes |
| From a US bank account (ACH or bank transfer) | No |
| Debit or credit card | No |
| Personal or business check | No |
| Prepaid card | No, unless loaded with cash to avoid the tax |
| Transfers of $15 or less | No |
The provider collects the tax from you at the time of the transfer and pays it to the IRS. If you currently pay cash at a counter, moving to a bank-funded transfer removes the tax and usually lowers the fee as well. The IRS rules include an anti-abuse provision, so loading cash onto a card purely to avoid the tax can still be taxed.
Using the official CBN rate of about ₦1,332 per dollar on 8 October 2026 as a reference, and the corridor and bank averages above, this is roughly what arrives from $400. Rates change daily, so use it to see the size of the gaps.
| Route | Cost | Value that arrives | In naira at ₦1,332/$ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Corridor average (2.72%), bank-funded | $10.88 | $389.12 | about ₦518,000 |
| Corridor average, paid in cash | $10.88 + $4.00 tax | $389.12 (you pay $414.88 in total) | about ₦518,000 |
| Bank, global average (14.55%) | $58.20 | $341.80 | about ₦455,000 |
The tax is added to what you pay rather than taken from what arrives, but it is still money that never reaches your family. Over twelve monthly transfers of $400 paid in cash, it adds $48 a year.
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau enforces federal rules on remittance transfers. In general:
The disclosure rule is the most useful one for comparing. Because the amount the recipient receives must be shown before you pay, you can compare providers on naira received, which is the only figure that matters. Our explainer on reading the rate you are quoted shows how to work out the hidden margin; the method is the same for dollars.
Nigeria decides the payout. Licensed transfer operators pay remittances in naira at a rate linked to the official market, into a bank account or as cash up to the equivalent of $200. From 1 May 2026 all such payouts must pass through naira settlement accounts at authorised dealer banks. If your family wants to keep dollars, the route is a bank wire to their domiciliary account at a Nigerian bank, not a money transfer app. Our article on how the CBN rules shape payouts sets this out.
For a deposit on land or a year's rent, expect your provider to ask where the money came from and to apply limits until you are fully verified. Have recent pay stubs, a bank statement or sale documents ready. On the Nigerian side, the recipient's account tier must allow a large credit, so check with them before you send. Paying a lawyer's or developer's company account against a written contract is safer than paying an individual, and keeping the receipts helps if you later need to show the source of the money.
Pryme's multicurrency account includes US account and routing numbers, and money stays in the currency it arrived in, so dollars are held as dollars until you convert. Outside Nigeria, Pryme's activities are carried out through regulated partners; Pryme Financial Ltd is a financial technology company, not a bank. When you are ready, Swap shows the rate before you confirm and any fee on its own line. As with any provider, compare the rate shown with the mid-market rate as well as the fee. A Pryme account can be opened from the US, as from any country. How a transfer is treated for the remittance tax described above is a question to put to any provider, including us, before you send.
If another licensed provider delivers more naira for your amount on the day, use it. The checklist in our main guide to sending money to Nigeria works for any provider.
Since 1 January 2026, a 1% federal excise tax applies to remittances funded with cash, money orders, cashier's checks or traveler's checks. Transfers funded from a bank account or by debit or credit card are not taxed, and transfers of $15 or less are exempt.
Usually a licensed digital provider, funded from your bank account, paying into a Nigerian bank account. The World Bank's Q3 2025 average for $200 was 2.72%. Compare the naira received, which providers must show you before you pay.
Under federal rules you can generally cancel within 30 minutes of paying, without a fee, unless the money has already been picked up or deposited. After that, you can report an error for up to 180 days.
Not through a money transfer operator: Nigerian rules require those payouts in naira. To deliver dollars, send a bank wire to the recipient's domiciliary account at a Nigerian bank and check the bank's charges first.
