Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Rates

Sending euros from Nigeria: what banks allow and which rate

Lawful ways to send euros out of Nigeria for tuition, blocked accounts and medical bills, the Form A documents banks ask for and the rate they apply.

The short answer

You can send euros out of Nigeria for eligible personal purposes such as school fees, medical bills abroad and travel, usually by applying through your bank on Form A with documents that prove the purpose, or by transferring euros you already hold in a domiciliary account. Banks price these transfers at their selling rate around the official market rate. Licensed bureaux can also sell limited amounts for school fees and medical bills, within CBN caps.

Lawful routes for outward euro payments

RouteTypical usesRate
Form A through your bank, buying FX with nairaTuition, blocked accounts for study visas, medical bills, some personal paymentsBank's selling rate
Transfer from your own euro domiciliary accountAny lawful payment from euros you already holdNo conversion if already in euros
Licensed bureau de changeSchool fees up to $10,000 a year, medical expenses up to $5,000, per CBN BDC FAQsBureau's selling rate

Form A is the CBN form for invisible trade transactions, payments for services rather than goods. Our explainer on Form A and Form M covers the form itself. Limits for the bureau route are stated in dollars; the euro equivalent applies in practice, so ask how the bureau converts the cap.

Documents banks usually ask for

School fees and blocked accounts

  • Admission letter and fee invoice from the institution, showing its bank details.
  • Student's passport data page.
  • For a blocked account, the provider's or embassy's instructions with the account details.
  • BVN-linked account of the payer, and identity documents.

Medical bills

  • Medical report from a Nigerian doctor and the foreign hospital's invoice or estimate.
  • Patient's passport and evidence of travel where relevant.

Each bank publishes its own checklist and may ask for more. Expect the transfer to go directly to the institution, not to the student.

Which rate is applied

When a bank buys euros for your Form A, it prices against the official market, where trading happens in dollars on the CBN's electronic matching system. The euro price is derived from the dollar rate and the euro's dollar price, then the bank adds its selling margin. You also pay transfer charges, and sometimes intermediary bank fees on the European side.

Steps

  1. Confirm the amount and the institution's euro account details.
  2. Ask your bank for its Form A checklist and current charges.
  3. Submit documents and fund the naira equivalent, or use your euro balance.
  4. Keep the transfer confirmation and send it to the institution.

Timing and common delays

International transfers through SWIFT pass through one or more correspondent banks before reaching the European account, so allow several working days, and more around public holidays in Nigeria or Europe. Delays usually come from missing documents, a name mismatch between the invoice and the payment, or incomplete beneficiary details such as a missing IBAN or BIC. For study-visa blocked accounts, the provider usually needs the payment reference exactly as issued; a missing reference can hold the funds until it is matched. Start early if a visa appointment or term start depends on the payment, and ask the institution to confirm receipt in writing.

Charges can also be split: if you choose shared charges, the receiving bank may deduct a fee, so the institution receives less than you sent. Ask your bank about paying all charges yourself when the full amount must arrive.

Where Pryme fits

If you receive euros, keeping them in euros in a multicurrency account avoids converting to naira and back before you pay. Send and Swap show the rate and fee before you approve. For pound payments, see buying pounds in Nigeria.

Questions people ask

Can I send euros abroad from Nigeria for school fees?

Yes. Banks process school fees through Form A with an admission letter and invoice, and licensed bureaux can sell up to $10,000 a year for school fees under CBN FAQs.

How do I fund a German blocked account from Nigeria?

Through your bank, using Form A with the blocked account provider's instructions, or by transferring euros you already hold. Check your bank's document list.

What rate do banks use for Form A?

Their selling rate, priced against the official market rate. Ask for the rate and all charges before you submit.

Can I pay a hospital in Europe from Nigeria?

Yes, through Form A with a medical report and hospital invoice, or up to $5,000 from a licensed bureau per CBN FAQs.
