Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Australia

Selling Nigerian food online in Australia: labelling rules

Chin chin, kuli-kuli, ground crayfish and pepper soup mix sold online: the Food Standards Code label basics, plain English allergens and country of origin.

The short answer

Packaged Nigerian food sold in Australia, online or in a shop, must carry a label meeting the Food Standards Code set by FSANZ, including the contact details of the supplier in Australia or New Zealand, ingredients, date marking, storage directions and warning statements. Since 25 February 2024 allergens must be named in plain English in bold in the ingredient list, with a separate bold summary starting "Contains", and country of origin labelling follows the Country of Origin Food Labelling Information Standard 2016.

An online shop selling Nigerian snacks and soup ingredients can reach customers across Australia, but the food still needs an Australian label, whether you repack egusi from a sack or import chin chin in sealed packets. The label is where most small sellers fall short, usually on allergens and on who is responsible for the food. This guide covers what FSANZ's own pages say and how it applies to the products Nigerian shops sell.

What the label must cover

FSANZ sets the standards for what must be on food labels, and its guidance says labels protect public health by displaying information such as use-by dates, ingredients, certain allergens, instructions for storage and preparation, and advisory and warning statements (FSANZ, Labelling, updated Feb 2025). Its country of origin page adds that "all food must be labelled with the contact details of the food supplier in New Zealand or Australia" (FSANZ, country of origin labelling, Aug 2026). For imported food, that is you or your importer, not the Lagos manufacturer.

  • Name of the food, describing what it is ("ground crayfish", not just a brand).
  • Ingredient list, with allergens in plain English and bold.
  • Allergen summary statement starting with "Contains".
  • Date marking and storage directions.
  • Australian or New Zealand supplier name and contact details.
  • Country of origin information.
  • Nutrition information where the Code requires it, including saturated fat.

Allergens: the part most often wrong

Allergens that must be declared are wheat, fish, crustacean, mollusc, egg, milk, lupin, peanut, soy, sesame, almond, Brazil nut, cashew, hazelnut, macadamia, pecan, pistachio, pine nut, walnut, barley, oats and rye (where they contain gluten), and sulphites. They go in the ingredient list using the exact required name in bold, and a separate bold summary statement starting with "contains" must also appear. From 25 February 2024 food businesses must meet these plain English rules; food packaged before then could be sold until 25 February 2026 (FSANZ, Allergen labelling, updated Nov 2025). That transition has now ended.

Common Nigerian products and their allergens

ProductTypical allergens to checkExample summary
Chin chinWheat, egg, milkContains wheat, gluten, egg, milk
Kuli-kuliPeanutContains peanut
Ground crayfishCrustaceanContains crustacean
Stockfish flakesFishContains fish
Pepper soup spiceVaries; check for sesame or added flourDepends on recipe
Plantain chipsOften none; check frying oil and additivesDepends on recipe

Ask the manufacturer for the full recipe. A chin chin made with margarine contains milk; a seasoning cube may contain wheat. If you cannot get a recipe, do not sell the product as packaged food.

Country of origin and oils

Country of origin requirements are in the Country of Origin Food Labelling Information Standard 2016 under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010; FSANZ links to the ACCC for detail (FSANZ, country of origin labelling). If you repack Nigerian egusi in Australia, ask the ACCC guidance how to describe origin for food packed here from imported ingredients. For palm oil, FSANZ allows the ingredient to be listed as "vegetable oil" or "palm oil", and saturated fat must be declared in the nutrition panel (FSANZ, Palm oil).

Online selling: the same rules, shown before purchase

An online listing should give customers the same information they would see on the pack, especially allergens, before they buy. Put the "Contains" statement in the product description, and photograph the actual label so customers can read it. If you import the food yourself, it also has to clear biosecurity and food safety checks first; see importing egusi, ogbono and dried fish and importing palm oil.

A worked example label

Example only, for a 250 g pack of chin chin repacked in Sydney:

Name
Chin chin (fried sweet wheat snack)
Ingredients
Wheat flour, sugar, vegetable oil, margarine (milk), egg, nutmeg, salt
Summary
Contains wheat, gluten, milk, egg
Best before
Printed date
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place
Supplier
Business name and Australian address
Origin
Origin statement following the ACCC standard

Where Pryme fits

For an online food shop paying Nigerian producers, a Pryme Business Account holds naira and US dollars (business multicurrency), and invoicing keeps supplier and customer records in one place. Starting a physical shop? See licences for an African grocery store.

Questions people ask

Do I need a label to sell Nigerian food online in Australia?

Yes. Packaged food must carry a Food Standards Code label, including the Australian or New Zealand supplier's contact details and allergens.

What does PEAL mean for food labels?

Plain English allergen labelling: allergens named in bold in the ingredients, plus a bold summary starting "Contains", required since 25 February 2024.

Do I have to say the food is from Nigeria?

Country of origin labelling follows the Country of Origin Food Labelling Information Standard 2016; check the ACCC guidance for your product.

Can I sell chin chin without a nutrition panel?

Check the Food Standards Code exemptions for your pack size and sale method before you print labels without one.
