Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

School uniform costs and grants in England

From September 2026 schools in England can require only three branded uniform items, four at secondary if one is a tie. The rules, and where help exists.

The short answer

From September 2026, schools in England must limit compulsory branded uniform and PE items to three, or four at secondary and middle schools if one of them is a tie, under Department for Education guidance. There is no national uniform grant in England: GOV.UK tells parents to ask their local council, while Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland run their own school uniform grant schemes.

For Nigerian parents, school uniform is familiar territory: every September in Lagos or Enugu brings uniforms, sandals, books and levies. In England the costs are different but can still add up quickly, especially for a family that has just arrived with two or three children and few household goods. New rules this year change what schools can make you buy.

The new limit on branded items

The Department for Education's statutory guidance on the cost of school uniforms, updated on 6 July 2026, sets a legal limit under the Education Act 1996 as amended by the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Act 2026.

The limit
From September 2026, no more than 3 compulsory branded items of uniform and PE kit
Secondary and middle schools
Up to 4, but only if one of them is a tie
Choices
Where a school lets you choose between branded items, such as a branded skirt or branded trousers, that counts as one item
What counts as branded
An item with distinctive features such as a name or logo, or one only sold by the school's appointed supplier
Badges
If parents are asked to sew a badge onto a generic item, that item counts as branded

A generic navy skirt or grey cardigan that you can buy from several shops is not a branded item. That is where the savings are: supermarkets and high street chains sell plain uniform items, and the guidance is designed to let you use them.

Second-hand uniform and other cost rules

  • Schools should make second-hand uniform freely accessible to all parents, and should not make you attend a paid event to get it.
  • Information about it should be on the school's website, and you should be able to get items discreetly.
  • Schools should look hard at higher-cost items such as blazers and jumpers, think about the total cost for low-income families and avoid frequent or last-minute changes.
  • The guidance expects schools to have dealt with these points in time for parents to buy uniform for September 2027 at the latest.

Grants and help with costs

GOV.UK's page on help with school clothing costs says that in England you should contact your local council to find out whether there is support in your area. There is no single national scheme, no set amount and no published national eligibility rule, so it varies from council to council. In Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, GOV.UK says you may be able to get a school uniform grant through each nation's own scheme.

If your visa has a no recourse to public funds condition, ask the council directly whether its scheme is open to you before applying, and keep the answer in writing. Free school meals are covered separately in free school meals for NRPF families.

A worked budget (illustrative)

Example for one secondary pupil at a school with four branded items (blazer, tie, PE top and jumper) and generic items bought from a supermarket. Prices are illustrative, not quotes.

ItemExample cost
Branded blazer£35
Branded tie£8
Branded PE top£15
Branded jumper£18
Generic trousers or skirts, 2 pairs£16
Generic shirts, pack of 3£10
School shoes£30
Total£132

Example: the four branded items come to £76 (£35 + £8 + £15 + £18) and the generic items and shoes to £56 (£16 + £10 + £30), so £132 in all. With three children, even at this level, that is close to £400 before bags, coats and PE trainers. Second-hand branded items from the school's own scheme can cut the largest single item, the blazer.

Where to buy and when

Buy branded items only from the supplier the school names, and generic items wherever is cheapest. Ask the school before the summer when its second-hand sale or rail opens. Buy one size up for fast-growing children, and label everything: lost-property bins fill quickly in the first term. If your child is starting mid-year after arriving in the UK, tell the school; some schools can lend items for the first weeks while you sort things out.

If you think a school is breaking the rules

  1. Check the school's uniform policy on its website and count the compulsory branded items.
  2. Raise it informally with the school first.
  3. Use the school's complaints procedure. The guidance says disputes about cost should be settled locally under that policy.
  4. If that is exhausted, you can contact the Department for Education through its customer help portal.

The guidance also says pupils who cannot comply with the uniform policy for financial reasons should not miss out on teaching or other parts of school life.

Where Pryme fits

Many families pay for school in two countries. If you also have children in school in Nigeria, see back-to-school costs in Nigeria; paying fees at home from the UK is covered in paying Nigerian school fees from the UK, and with Send the app shows the rate and the fee before you approve. A Personal Assistant can set reminders for term dates; nothing moves without your approval.

Questions people ask

How many branded uniform items can a school require in England?

From September 2026, no more than three compulsory branded items, or four at secondary and middle schools if one is a tie.

Is there a school uniform grant in England?

Not a national one. GOV.UK says to ask your local council whether there is support in your area. Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own grant schemes.

Does a tie count as a branded item?

Yes, if it carries the school's name or logo. At secondary and middle schools the limit rises to four only if one of the items is a tie.

Can a school charge for second-hand uniform events?

The DfE guidance says second-hand uniform should be freely accessible, not only available through paid events.
