Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans on Spaces

Paying school fees with Loans on Spaces: how it works

If your child's school is a Spaces merchant, you can pay fees on credit after accepting the agreement in the Pryme app. Steps, checks and examples.

The short answer

If your child's school is a merchant in Pryme's Spaces network and you have been offered a Loans on Spaces limit, you can pay the fees on credit. The app shows the amount, cost and repayment date in full, and nothing is paid until you accept. It works best for a short gap between the fee deadline and money you know is coming.

The problem it solves

School fee deadlines in Nigeria rarely line up with when parents are paid. A new term may start in the second week of the month while salary arrives at the end. Business income can be uneven. Some schools charge late fees, and some send children home if fees are not paid by a set date. Parents bridge the gap with family loans, salary advances, loan apps or school instalment plans, each with its own cost. For the full range of options, read paying school fees in instalments.

Loans on Spaces is one more option, and it only works where the school has joined Spaces.

What Loans on Spaces is

Who lends
Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Ltd, licensed by the CBN. Pryme Financial Ltd is a technology company, not a lender.
Where it can be spent
Only with merchants in Spaces. Schools are a supported sector, but only schools that have joined Spaces can be paid.
How a limit comes about
A limit may be offered based on how your Pryme account is run, with credit bureau checks. You do not fill in a separate loan form.
What you see first
The full agreement: amount, cost of borrowing and repayment date. Nothing is drawn until you accept.
Where the money goes
Straight to the school. It is not paid to you as cash and cannot be transferred.

Step by step

  1. Ask the school's bursary whether the school is a Spaces merchant, and confirm it in the Pryme app.
  2. Get the term's fee breakdown from the school: tuition, levies, books, uniforms, feeding, transport. Know exactly what you are paying for.
  3. Check whether a Loans on Spaces limit is offered to you and whether it covers the amount you need.
  4. Start the payment to the school. Read the agreement: amount, cost and repayment date.
  5. Accept only if the repayment date matches money you are sure of, such as salary or a known business receipt.
  6. Keep the receipt. A verifiable receipt, generated in the app through Pryme's partnership with VerifyDoc.ai, lets the school confirm the payment is genuine and unaltered.

Worked example

Example only. Mr and Mrs Bello have two children at a private primary school in Ibadan that is a Spaces merchant. Fees for the term are ₦380,000 in total, due on the 10th. They have ₦200,000 saved. Mr Bello's salary of ₦450,000 arrives on the 28th.

StepExample amount
Total fees due on the 10th₦380,000
Paid from savings₦200,000
Gap paid with Loans on Spaces, if offered₦180,000
Repayment on the 28th₦180,000 plus the cost shown in the agreement
Salary left after repaymentAbout ₦270,000, before the cost shown

Before accepting, they check that ₦270,000 less the cost of borrowing still covers rent, food and transport for the month. It does, so they accept. If it did not, a school instalment plan, or a smaller loan combined with asking the school for a short extension, would be safer.

If you have more than one child

Fees for siblings are often due on the same day, and some schools offer a sibling discount. Ask the bursary for one combined invoice that shows any discount, so you borrow only the net amount. If your children attend different schools, check each one separately: one may be a Spaces merchant and the other not, and the credit can only be used where the school is in Spaces.

Questions to ask before you accept

  • Is the repayment date after money I am certain to receive?
  • Does the total I repay compare well with the school's own instalment plan or late fee? See school fees loan vs instalment plan.
  • Will I need to borrow again next term? If so, start a term-by-term saving plan now.
  • Am I paying for anything that could wait, such as optional trips or extras?

Repaying, credit records and your rights

Repayment is made in the app. Paying on time helps your credit record with the bureaus; late payment can be reported and can make future borrowing harder. Under the Credit Reporting Act 2017, you can request your credit report and dispute errors. Institutions regulated by the CBN must explain terms clearly and treat customers fairly under its Consumer Protection Regulations, and you can complain to the CBN if a complaint to the institution is not resolved.

To avoid needing credit next term, start a plan now: saving for school fees term by term.

Where Pryme fits

Loans on Spaces is part of the Pryme Personal Account. You can see any offer, pay a Spaces school, repay, and keep receipts in one place. A Fixed or Flexible Savings Box can build up next term's fees, and your Personal Assistant can remind you of deadlines, acting only with your approval. Learn more about Loans on Spaces.

Questions people ask

Can I pay my child's school fees with a loan in Nigeria?

Yes, through several routes. With Loans on Spaces, the school must be a Spaces merchant and you must accept the agreement shown in the Pryme app. The money is paid directly to the school.

What if my child's school is not on Spaces?

Loans on Spaces cannot be used there. You can ask the school to consider joining by opening a Pryme Business Account and contacting Pryme.

Can I repay a school fees loan early?

Often yes. Your agreement in the app shows what applies, including any effect on the cost.

Will the school know I paid with credit?

The school receives payment as a Spaces merchant. You can share a receipt, including a verifiable one, as proof of payment.
