Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2018OjirehPrime Card

2020Microfinance bank

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Saving as a pensioner in Nigeria

Protect capital first, then add income: how programmed withdrawal and annuities work, FGN Savings Bonds, deposit insurance and scams to avoid.

The short answer

For a pensioner, safety of capital comes before return. Keep a cash reserve in an insured bank, then use income instruments such as FGN Savings Bonds, which paid 13.071% (two-year) and 14.071% (three-year) with quarterly interest in the October 2026 offer, and treasury bills. Under the Contributory Pension Scheme you choose between programmed withdrawal from your PFA and a life annuity from an insurer.

The pensioner's order of priorities

A younger saver who loses money can earn it back. A retiree usually cannot. That changes the order of decisions:

  1. Secure a reliable monthly income for essentials.
  2. Hold a cash reserve for health and family emergencies.
  3. Protect the lump sum from loss, including scams.
  4. Only then look for extra return.

Inflation still matters: the NBS put headline inflation at 14.63% for September 2026. But a pensioner who chases high returns to beat inflation often ends up with neither the return nor the capital.

Your pension income: two options

Under the Contributory Pension Scheme, retirees choose how their retirement savings account (RSA) pays out. TheCable's explainer on the PenCom and NAICOM retirement pack describes two routes.

Programmed withdrawal
Paid by your pension fund administrator (PFA), monthly or quarterly, from your RSA. The balance stays yours and goes to your beneficiaries if you die. You can move to an annuity after one year.
Retiree life annuity
Bought from a life insurer, regulated by NAICOM, using your RSA balance. Pays for life, with a guarantee period of at least ten years. You cannot move back to programmed withdrawal, and can change annuity provider only after two years.

BusinessDay reported in January 2025 that programmed withdrawal is calculated roughly as the RSA balance divided by the expected number of monthly payments: for example, ₦10 million over 240 months gives about ₦41,667 a month at the start. It also reported that retirees may take up to 25% of the RSA as a lump sum, provided the remainder can fund an adequate monthly pension. Confirm the figures for your own account with your PFA, which must give you the retiree pack.

Where to keep the lump sum

Cash reserve in an insured bank

Keep six to twelve months of essential costs in a savings account you can reach quickly. Since May 2024 the NDIC has insured deposits up to ₦5 million per depositor at commercial banks and ₦2 million at microfinance banks, as reported by Arise News. If your reserve is larger, spread it across banks.

FGN Savings Bonds for quarterly income

Issued by the Debt Management Office and backed by the Federal Government, these pay interest every quarter, which suits a retiree's budget. In the October 2026 offer, units cost ₦1,000, the minimum was ₦5,000 and the maximum ₦50 million, according to Nairametrics. You buy through DMO-appointed stockbrokers. The bonds are listed on the Nigerian Exchange, so they can be sold before maturity, though the price you get then is not fixed.

Treasury bills and money market funds

Treasury bills run up to one year; the 364-day bill cleared at 15.85% at the 7 October 2026 auction. Money market funds pool short-term instruments and let you withdraw more easily, but returns are not fixed. Check the fund's holding period and fees: ARM's Money Market Fund factsheet for September 2025 lists a 1.5% management fee and a 90-day minimum holding period.

A labelled example

Example only, for a retiree with a ₦4,000,000 lump sum and a monthly pension covering most essentials.

WhereAmountPurpose
Savings account (commercial bank)₦600,000Health and family emergencies
Two-year FGN Savings Bond at 13.071%₦2,400,000Quarterly income: ₦78,426 each quarter (₦313,704 a year)
Money market fund₦1,000,000Top-ups and planned expenses
Total₦4,000,000

The bond figures use the October 2026 rate; a new offer will have a different rate. Before the bond matures, decide whether to reinvest or move the money to cash.

Spending down without running out

A lump sum is not income; it is a store you draw from. Decide in advance how much you will take from it each year beyond your pension, and stick to it. A cautious approach is to spend only the interest the lump sum earns and leave the capital intact, at least in the early years of retirement. If you must draw on the capital, do it for planned needs, such as a roof repair or a grandchild's fees, rather than as a monthly top-up.

Keep a written list of every account, bond and fund, with the institution's contact details, and tell a trusted family member where it is. Many retirees' savings are delayed for years after death because nobody knew which institutions held them.

Scams that target retirees

Retirees with lump sums are a common target. Warning signs include promised monthly returns far above treasury bill rates, pressure to decide quickly, requests to pay into a personal account, and investments recommended by someone you met through a church, WhatsApp group or 'pension office' contact. Check any investment firm on the SEC's register of operators, and read our guide to Ponzi and investment scams. Your PFA will not ask you to pay to release your pension.

What to check first

  • Your RSA statement and the retiree pack from your PFA.
  • Whether programmed withdrawal or an annuity suits your health and family situation.
  • Who your beneficiaries are, and that the records are up to date.
  • That every institution you use is licensed: CBN for banks, SEC for fund managers and brokers, NAICOM for insurers.

Where Pryme fits

A Pryme Personal Account can hold your cash reserve in a Flexible Box, with naira deposits held by Solid Allianze MFB and insured by the NDIC up to the applicable limit. A Personal Assistant can prepare bill payments and reminders for your approval, and account security uses an authenticator app and transaction PIN rather than SMS codes.

Questions people ask

Where can a retiree invest lump sum in Nigeria?

Many retirees use a mix of an insured savings account for emergencies, FGN Savings Bonds for quarterly interest and treasury bills or money market funds. Check each provider is licensed.

What is the difference between programmed withdrawal and annuity?

Programmed withdrawal is paid by your PFA from your RSA and the balance stays yours; a life annuity is bought from an insurer and pays for life but cannot be reversed.

How much lump sum can I collect from my pension?

BusinessDay reported up to 25% of the RSA balance, provided the remainder can fund an adequate monthly pension. Confirm with your PFA.

Is FGN Savings Bond good for pensioners?

It pays interest every quarter and is backed by the Federal Government, which suits many retirees. Rates change with each monthly offer.
