Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Life in Abuja

Salons and spas in Abuja: using Loans on Spaces well

How to use Loans on Spaces at Abuja salons, barbers and spas, plan for wedding and Sallah season, and keep grooming spending within a fixed amount.

The short answer

Abuja residents can use Loans on Spaces at salons, barbershops and spas that are Spaces merchants, after accepting the offer in the Pryme app. It suits occasion spending such as a wedding, Sallah or a work event, booked in advance with a clear repayment date, rather than routine weekly visits.

The grooming calendar in Abuja

Salon and spa spending in Abuja follows the city's calendar. Wedding season is busy, with many ceremonies held in the dry months. The weeks before Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha see high demand for hair, henna and makeup in neighbourhoods across the city. December brings office parties, church events and family gatherings. Graduation ceremonies at universities in and around the FCT add their own rush.

The weather matters too. The harmattan, roughly November to February, dries skin and hair and sends people to spas for treatments. The rainy season, from about April to October, means many people choose protective styles that last longer. Knowing when your own spending peaks is the first step to planning it.

How Loans on Spaces works at a salon or spa

Spas and salons are a supported sector in Spaces. A Loan on Spaces is lent by Solid Allianze MFB and can only be spent with Spaces merchants. If a limit is offered on your Pryme account, you see the amount, cost and repayment date before you accept, and nothing is drawn until you do.

  1. Confirm in the app that the salon, barbershop or spa is a Spaces merchant.
  2. Ask for the full price before booking, including products, extensions and any home-service charge.
  3. Check whether a deposit is needed to hold a slot, which many busy Abuja salons ask for in peak season.
  4. Open the offer, read the cost and repayment date, and accept only if it fits your income.
  5. Keep the receipt in the Pryme app.

Example: a bride's beauty budget in Abuja

Example figures only. A bride in Gwarinpa plans her wedding for February and wants to spread the beauty costs.

ServiceExample amountTiming
Skin preparation sessions at a spa, three visits₦75,000December to January
Hair installation and styling for two events₦120,000Week of the wedding
Bridal makeup and one trial₦150,000Trial in January, main event in February
Nails and henna₦35,000Week of the wedding
Total₦380,000

She pays the spa sessions from savings and uses a Loan on Spaces only for the services in the wedding week, at merchants in Spaces, with a repayment date after her next two salary payments if the offer allows that. Splitting it like this keeps the borrowed amount, and its cost, smaller. The national guide on bridal and event beauty budgets lists other costs brides often miss.

Routine grooming is different

Weekly barbing, a fortnightly wash and set, or monthly nails are regular costs. Borrowing for them each time adds a charge to something you could plan from income. A better approach is a fixed monthly grooming amount, explained in how to set a monthly grooming budget.

Good use of credit
A one-off event with a known date and price, booked in advance.
Use with care
A treatment course at a spa where the total is known upfront.
Avoid
Routine weekly visits, or adding services on the day because the credit is there.

Getting value from Abuja salons and spas

  • Compare prices between districts. A salon in Wuse 2 or Maitama may charge more than one in Kubwa or Lugbe for similar work, though skill and hygiene matter more than price.
  • Ask whether products are included. Hair extensions bought separately can cost more than the styling.
  • Check hygiene: clean tools, fresh towels and sterilised equipment for nails and waxing.
  • For home service, agree the transport charge before the stylist sets off; distances across the FCT add up.
  • Book early for Sallah and December. Last-minute slots are scarce, and some salons charge more.

Questions to ask before you book

A few minutes on the phone or in person saves disputes later, and it matters more when you are paying with borrowed money because a disagreement does not pause your repayment date. Ask:

  1. What exactly is included in the quoted price, and what costs extra?
  2. How long will the service take? Long styles can run several hours, which affects how you plan the day.
  3. What happens if I am late, or need to move the appointment?
  4. Is the deposit refundable, and up to how many days before?
  5. Who will do the work? In busy weeks, the senior stylist you chose may hand over to a junior.
  6. For spa treatments, what should I avoid before and after, and are there any health reasons I should not have it?

Write the answers down or ask for them in a message, so there is a record. If you are booking a group, such as bridesmaids or family for a Sallah outing, decide who pays for whom before anyone sits down, and collect contributions by transfer before the day.

If a salon asks for a deposit and you later cancel, ask about its refund rules before you pay. Consumer complaints about services can go to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission if a business will not resolve them.

Where Pryme fits

Pryme Personal Account customers in Abuja may be offered Loans on Spaces for use at Spaces salons and spas. The Personal Assistant can hold a monthly grooming amount for you and remind you when repayments are due; it prepares, you approve. See Loans on Spaces for how offers work.

Questions people ask

Can I pay for hair and makeup on credit in Abuja?

Yes, at a salon that is a Spaces merchant, if you have a Loans on Spaces offer on your Pryme account and accept it after reading the cost and repayment date.

Is it a good idea to borrow for wedding makeup?

It can be, for a known amount on a fixed date with repayment you can afford. Paying part from savings keeps the borrowed amount smaller.

Can I use Loans on Spaces for a home-service stylist?

Only if the stylist's business is a Spaces merchant. Agree the full price, including transport, before booking.

Where can I complain about a salon in Abuja?

Try the business first, in writing. If it will not resolve the issue, you can complain to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.
