Ten years, one trunk

The business has changed shape four times and never changed what it was rooted in. Each version was built out of what the last one could not do.

2016E-commerce

2018OjirehPrime Card

A prepaid card. The first time the company issued rather than resold, and the first time it carried the obligations that come with holding somebody else’s money.

2020Microfinance bank

PrymeSolid Allianze acquired — an existing bank with an existing licence. The perimeter stopped being someone else’s to draw.

2023Multicurrency

More than one currency on one balance, and the rebrand to Pryme. A Nigerian business could hold dollars without holding a second institution.

2026Agentic operations

Accounts that do the work rather than only hold value. Five agents on the account, inside a policy you write — which is where the new mark starts.

Questions

The things people ask us first.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives people and businesses in Nigeria one account that holds Naira alongside dollars, pounds and euros, and a set of agents that do the running of it — keeping the books, chasing what is owed, answering customers and paying bills. Nothing leaves an account without the owner’s approval.

Can I hold dollars, pounds and euros in a Pryme account?

Yes. A Pryme account holds Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros side by side on one ledger, each with its own account details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area. You can swap between them at a rate you set, and every currency has its own statement.

What is Spaces?

Spaces is available in Nigeria. It gives a shopper money to spend that can only be spent with a participating business. The business is paid into its Naira account whether or not the shopper repays, because Pryme carries the credit. For the business it is free to join, there is nothing monthly, and the customer’s identity is never shown — only a reference and what it is worth.

What do the agents on a Pryme Business Account do?

Five agents come with the account. The Chief of Staff runs the week and keeps what is stuck moving. Finance watches the money and keeps the books as you trade. Compliance keeps the filings on time and screens what moves. Sales chases what you are owed. Customer Support answers your customers and follows up. Each has a job description, a budget and a ceiling you set, and each one proposes rather than acts — nothing leaves the account without your signature.

How does Pryme Pay work?

Pryme Pay takes payments on your own site or on a checkout page you control. The buyer is given a one-time account number and transfers to it from any bank app or by USSD — no card, no OTP, nothing to type in. The money lands in the same account your agents are running, already matched to the order and already in your books.

What are Savings Boxes?

Savings Boxes are separate pots inside a Pryme account, held in Naira. Flexible Boxes can be withdrawn at any time, Fixed Boxes hold to a date, Investment Boxes hold for longer, and Interest-free Boxes earn nothing by design. A business can use them to ring-fence payroll and the tax it withholds, so that money cannot be spent by accident.

Who holds my money, and is it protected?

Pryme is a financial technology company, not a bank. Accounts and deposits are provided by Solid Allianze Microfinance Bank Limited, which is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Can I build on Pryme?

Yes. Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

What is Pryme?

Pryme is a financial technology company. It gives you one account that holds US dollars, pounds sterling and euros beside Naira, with an assistant that runs the account for you and asks before anything moves. Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, and further markets open as each licence lands.

Can I open a Pryme account from outside Nigeria?

Accounts are provided in Nigeria today, subject to verification and approval. Foreign-currency balances are held and converted inside that account, so you can hold, receive and swap dollars, pounds and euros wherever you are.

Which currencies can I hold with Pryme?

Naira, US dollars, pounds sterling and euros, side by side on one ledger. Each has its own details — a Nigerian account number, a US account number, a UK sort code and an IBAN for the euro area — and each has its own statement.

How do I send money to Nigeria with Pryme?

Swap at a rate you set rather than the rate of the day, then send to any Pryme username or to a Nigerian bank account. There is no fee to send to another Pryme account.

What does the assistant do?

Eva is the assistant inside the Pryme app. She opens accounts, moves money, saves toward your goals, pays what is due and follows up what is owed to you — and asks you before anything moves.

What is Pryme Rails?

Pryme Rails lets a platform issue a dedicated Naira account number to each of its own customers, collect into it and reconcile against it, over one API — the same rails the Pryme Business Account runs on.

Loans

Salary loan requirements in Nigeria: documents lenders ask for

A checklist of what Nigerian lenders ask salary earners for: payslips, employment letter, statements, ID, BVN, approved employer, and why.

The short answer

Most salary loans in Nigeria need valid ID and your BVN, recent payslips, bank statements (commonly six months), proof of employment and confirmation, an employer on the lender's approved list, and your consent to a credit bureau check. Stanbic IBTC's loan FAQ (Oct 2026), for example, asks for 3 months' payslips, 6 months' statements, an account held for 6 months and an employer on its eligible list. Each document answers one question: who you are, what you earn, how stable the job is and how you have handled credit.

Requirements lists look like bureaucracy, but each line exists to answer a specific risk question. If you know which question a document answers, you can tell when a substitute might work and when it will not.

The checklist, and what each item is for

RequirementThe lender's questionExample from a lender's page (Oct 2026)
Valid ID and BVNAre you who you say you are, and what is your banking record?Access Bank personal loan: valid ID and BVN
PayslipsHow much do you earn after tax and deductions?Stanbic IBTC: last 3 months' payslips
Bank statementsDoes the salary actually arrive, and what else is going out?Stanbic IBTC: 6 months' statements
Employment or confirmation letterAre you past probation and likely to stay employed?Access Bank: employer's confirmation form and evidence of confirmation
Employer on an approved listDoes your employer pay reliably and on time?Stanbic IBTC: employer on its eligible list; Sterling Bank sorts employers into categories A to E with different maximums
Salary domiciliation or lienHow will the lender collect?Access Bank: letter of lien or set-off; Sterling Bank payroll loan: 2 months' salary into Sterling
Minimum incomeIs there enough left after repayment?Stanbic IBTC FAQ: at least ₦20,000 a month (its unsecured loan page shows ₦50,000 in one place)
Age at maturityWill you still be working when the loan ends?Stanbic IBTC FAQ: 18 to 59; Sterling payroll loan: no older than 65 at maturity
Credit bureau checkDo you repay other lenders?GTBank QuickCredit: clean credit bureau report required

Where a bank's own page contradicts itself, as Stanbic IBTC's does on minimum income, ask the branch which figure applies and get it in writing.

The approved employer list

This is the requirement people find hardest to understand. Banks keep internal lists of employers whose payroll they trust, often based on size, sector, payment history and whether the employer has signed an agreement to route staff salaries. Sterling Bank publishes its payroll loan maximums by employer category, from ₦60 million for category A down to ₦5 million for category E (as at Oct 2026). Two people on the same salary can be offered very different amounts because of who employs them. If your employer is not on a bank's list, ask whether the bank will accept a statement-based assessment instead, or try a bank where your employer already has staff accounts.

Contract, outsourced and casual staff

If you are paid by an outsourcing agency rather than the company where you work, the lender will treat the agency as your employer. Its standing, not the client's, decides whether you are on the approved list. Contract staff on fixed terms are often limited to a loan that ends before the contract does, and casual workers paid in cash usually cannot use salary products at all; they are assessed like the self-employed, on what reaches their bank account.

Under the Credit Reporting Act 2017, a lender must obtain your consent and get a report from at least one licensed credit bureau before granting credit, and the Act entitles you to one free report a year from each bureau. CRC Credit Bureau's site, for example, offers a free annual report with a code at checkout. Check your report before you apply, so that an old dispute or someone else's loan wrongly on your file does not surprise you; our guide to credit bureaus in Nigeria explains how.

How the lender sizes the loan

Once the documents are in, the lender works out how much of your net pay can go to repayments. Sterling Bank's payroll loan caps this at 33.3% of net monthly salary.

Example
Net pay ₦250,000 a month. 33.3% of that is about ₦83,250. If you already repay ₦30,000 a month on another loan, the room left for a new instalment is about ₦53,250.

That remaining figure, multiplied over the tenor and adjusted for interest, decides your maximum. The lender may then cap it again by employer category.

Steps to prepare your pack

  1. Download 6 months of statements from your salary account and check they show your employer's name on each salary credit.
  2. Collect your last 3 payslips; ask HR for missing ones before you apply.
  3. Ask HR for a confirmation letter or the lender's own form, and how long it takes to sign.
  4. Pull your credit report and dispute any errors.
  5. List every existing repayment so your numbers match what the lender will see.
  6. Confirm the lender's name: a bank on the CBN list or a digital lender on the FCCPC register.

Where Pryme fits

If a lender needs a statement it can trust, a Pryme account can produce a regular or a verifiable statement through our partner VerifyDoc.ai, which anyone can check is genuine and unaltered. Pryme's own Loans on Spaces do not use an application pack: a limit may be offered based on how the account is run, and you accept the full agreement before anything is drawn.

Questions people ask

What documents do I need for a salary loan in Nigeria?

Usually a valid ID, BVN, 3 months' payslips, about 6 months' bank statements, proof of employment and confirmation, and consent to a credit check. Some banks also need salary domiciliation or a lien letter.

What does 'employer on approved list' mean?

Banks keep lists of employers whose payroll they trust. If yours is on it, you qualify for that bank's salary products; if not, ask about a statement-based assessment.

Can I get a salary loan while on probation?

Many banks require confirmation. Access Bank asks for evidence of confirmation. Some digital products assess salary credits instead.

How many months of bank statement do I need for a loan?

Six months is common; Stanbic IBTC's FAQ asks for 6 months (Oct 2026). Check each lender's list.
